Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offering both intellectual refreshment and spiritual encouragement, Where is This God of Yours? explores the potential of evolutionary theory to transform how we see ourselves, our relationships, our belief systems, and our purpose for being here. Gathered from years of research and reading, Jean Denomme has woven her interests in history, science, and theology into this thorough discussion of evolutionary theory, the nature of human consciousness, and the nature of God. Where is This God of Yours? raises questions of God and presents basic evolutionary theory in regard to the development of the universe, earth, and humans. It examines Catholic teachings, human behavior, and human purpose within an evolutionary context, while providing insights into the sources of human suffering and consequent personal and social responsibility. This exploration of science and faith is geared for Catholics and other Christians who are looking for a way to believe without turning off their minds and for those who want to find a more engaging purpose for living on earth than the hope of some mythical life in another world.

This book was released on 2022-06-20 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approaches to Monasticism in the Context of Christian Responses to Modern Culture is a study of how the values and practices of monasticism are being shaped by the shift to a cultural understanding of Christianity in modern times. The values and practices of traditional monasticism are contrasted with those of various expressions of new monasticism against the background of a multicultural and fluid social environment in an effort to find some reciprocal illumination. The study aims to describe monasticism in terms of authenticity and lived religion. Kevin Maddy was educated at Cambridge University and has recently completed a PhD at Radboud University, Nijmegen. He currently works in Canterbury as an Anglican parish priest, and is a probationary member of the Society of the Resurrection.

Book Synopsis The Circle Dance of Time by : John S. Dunne
Download or read book The Circle Dance of Time written by John S. Dunne and published by . This book was released on 2010-05-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is nothing wiser than the circle, Rilke says in his Stories of God. John Dunne's new book explores the wisdom of the circle. He uses the metaphor of the circle dance, a folk dance in which the women form an inner circle, holding hands and moving clockwise; the men form an outer circle, moving counterclockwise. When the music stops the person opposite you is your partner for the next dance. Dunne interprets the circle as the great circle of life and light and love that comes from God and returns to God. Dunne emphasizes the far point on the circle, farthest away from God, and uses that to discuss the difficulties of our secular age. In the individual life, the far point is a dark night of the soul. Yet Dunne sees that far point of loneliness and darkness as a point as well, marking the return to love and light. So the theme of the book is like the words of an old Bedouin to Lawrence of Arabia, "The love is from God, and of God, and towards God." The book concludes with the words of twenty-one "Circle Songs," composed by the author.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Queen Who Lost Her Castle is a mythical story about Queen Jacqueline of Heart Land and her quest to have the people of Heart Land love and accept her as much as they do their king. Queen Jacqueline plans an enormous party for the entire kingdom and totally fails. She is thrown out of the castle by the King and can only return to the castle and her king when she returns with the Five Laws of Light. She endures a difficult journey to Wise Dome to seek the Sorceress of the Shadow Self. The Sorceress holds the keys to the inner caves where the Five Laws of Light are protected. Jacqueline experiences a total change in her outer appearance, her belief systems in her quest for understanding her true role in life. The end of the story finds her standing at the gates of the castle with the Five Laws of Light. No one recognizes her for her beauty, her heart, her clothes, her jewels or her makeup; but rather for her heart. The story is a wonderful teaching tool for children in learning that being accepted must begin in loving yourself for WHO you are, not what you have. A surprise ending that will delight you!

Book Synopsis The Reasons of the Heart by : John S. Dunne
Download or read book The Reasons of the Heart written by John S. Dunne and published by . This book was released on 1989-08-31 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "John Dunne writes with intelligence, style, grace, and sure and discerning spiritual insight. Like all writers of really good spiritual theology, Dunne never betrays his subject matter with the kind of pious posturing or psycho-babble gimmickry that too often passes for 'spiritual writing.' His prose is crisp without being dense or rattling. His theological sensitivity is alert to nuance without becoming trapped into mere jargon. His care for the heart of authentic spirituality, like Henri Nouwen's, is steady and believable. Dunne chooses the classical religious metaphor of the 'journey' and invites his readers to join him in a journey into solitude and back again into the human circle. He insists that we accept as guides in this journey the great spiritual masters of the Eastern and Western traditions. Thus in reading Reasons of the Heart, we find ourselves in the presence of some of the best insights of John's Gospel, Augustine, Aquinas, Dante, Pascal, Kierkegaard, Buber, the Buddha, and Jesus. Dunne skillfully invites the reader to 'pass over' to a religious and theological vision of God and of our common humanity in our journey to authentic spirituality. Like Whitehead, Dunne believes that religion, above all, has to do with what an individual does with his/her solitariness. More than Whitehead, Dunne is concerned not only to have the individual enter solitariness, but also finally to leave it behind and rejoin the human community." --David Tracy, The Critic
Download or read book Time And Myth written by John S. Dunne and published by Doubleday. This book was released on 2012-05-02 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is man, apart from the things of his life, apart from loving and fighting and dying? In his exploration of that fundamental question, John S. Dunne considers the different ways in which man strives throughout his life for immortality. Growing out of the 1971 Yale University Thomas More lectures which Father Dunne delivered in that year, Time and Myth analyzes the man’s confrontation with the inevitability of death in the cultural, personal, and religious spheres, viewing each as a particular kind of myth that takes its form from the impact of time upon the myth. With penetrating simplicity the author poses the timeless dilemma of the human condition and seeks to resolve it through stories of adventures, journeys, and voyages inspired by man’s encounter with death; stories of childhood, youth, manhood, and age; and, finally, stories of God and of man wrestling with God and the unknown. The result is a fascinating “odyssey of the mind in which one travels through the wonderland of other cultures, lives, and religions only to return with new insight to the homeland of one’s own.”
