Book excerpt: Thanks to Father Paul's linguistic and cultural skills, this volume is a unique gateway into the beauty of Genesis and the internal coherence of biblical literature. Jargon-free and thoroughly provocative, it is a treasure trove even for seasoned Bible readers. Reading Decoding Genesis 1-11 is like reading over the scribe's shoulder "In the beginning". Dr. Philippe Guillaume University of Berne (Switzerland) Professor Tarazi's most recent book strongly advocates the authority of Scripture over all theology. Not shunning from being provocative as concerns the value of venerated translations and traditions, Tarazi shows the importance of studying the semantic nuances of the original consonantal Hebrew text of the Old Testament to discover the true face of God. Having read his book, the reader feels one great spiritual need: learn scriptural Hebrew! Dr. Bartosz Adamczewski Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw

Book excerpt: In THE ARK BEFORE NOAH, British Museum expert Dr Irving Finkel reveals how decoding the symbols on a 4,000 year old piece of clay enable a radical new interpretation of the Noah's Ark myth. A world authority on the period, Dr Finkel's enthralling real-life detective story began with a most remarkable event at the British Museum - the arrival one day in 2008 of a single, modest-sized Babylonian cuneiform tablet - the palm-sized clay rectangles on which our ancestors created the first documents. It had been brought in by a member of the public and this particular tablet proved to be of quite extraordinary importance. Not only does it date from about 1850 BC, but it is a copy of the Babylonian Story of the Flood, a myth from ancient Mesopotamia revealing among other things, instructions for building a large boat to survive a flood. But Dr Finkel's pioneering work didn't stop there. Through another series of enthralling discoveries he has been able to decode the story of the Flood in ways which offer unanticipated revelations to readers of THE ARK BEFORE NOAH.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To Christians, Jesus of Nazareth is the pivotal figure in human history. The entire Bible is about Him. Passages in the Old Testament forecast His life. In some Scriptures, references to Jesus are clear. In others, biblical writers relied on symbolism to foretell Jesuss time on earth. In his book Decoding Bible Messages, author John A. Mapp Jr. shines a laser on the Old Testament. Mapp provides numerous examples to bring Jesus out of the symbolism used by Old Testament writers. Passages that, at first look, seemed to have nothing to do with Jesus take on new meaning. For example, Mapp explains how the manner in which the Passover lamb was slaughtered is a symbolic portrayal of Jesuss crucifixion. Through Mapps research, youll discover the Old Testament is truly a hologram of Jesus Christ. Decoding Bible Messages provides a new perspective on the Old Testament. Learn to see Jesus on every page, and in the process, gain a new appreciation of the inspired nature of the whole Bible, plus a deeper revelation of the sovereign hand of God.

Book excerpt: Will the real Antichrist please stand up? For the last two thousand years people have been anxiously trying to analyze who the Antichrist might be and when he might be revealed. Many people have made preposterous claims, and of course, they have been wrong. If you're not careful, you can get caught up in the debate and spend so much time arguing with other Christians over the details that you don't accomplish anything for the kingdom! To make matters worse, we now live in an era when, for the first time, we have the possibility of an artificial intelligence Antichrist, a human computer hybrid that will demand to be worshipped. Have you ever wondered if it's OK to have Alexa, Siri, and other forms of artificial intelligence in your home? We know that the Bible says great deception is coming, so what is a concerned believer to do? Author and minister Mark Biltz wants you to understand the methods of the Antichrist so you won't be deceived. This book will help you know the big picture of what has happened historically, what is unfolding this very moment, and what the future holds concerning the Antichrist based on the unfolding purposes of God.

In our preparation, we learned that there were a lot of uncertainties. The one thing that we can be certain of is Bible prophecies. Of the many prophecies of the Bible, more than three hundred messianic prophecies (prophecies concerning Christ) have been fulfilled. Also, prophecies about the course of world history and the rise and fall of world powers have been fulfilled. Prophecies that have been fulfilled should be an encouragement of what remains to be fulfilled. This book is written for the layperson to outline what will be in the last days so that we can be better prepared.

Book excerpt: Valuable insights into key disputed topics from a veritable who's who of evangelical scholars In this volume thirty-seven first-rate evangelical scholars present a thorough study of biblical authority and a full range of issues connected to it. Recognizing that Scripture and its authority are now being both challenged and defended with renewed vigor, editor D. A. Carson assigned the topics that these select scholars address in the book. After an introduction by Carson to the many facets of the current discussion, the contributors present robust essays on relevant historical, biblical, theological, philosophical, epistemological, and comparative-religions topics. To conclude, Carson answers a number of frequently asked questions about the nature of Scripture, cross-referencing these FAQs to the preceding chapters. This comprehensive volume by a team of recognized experts will be the go-to reference on the nature and authority of the Bible for years to come. CONTRIBUTORS James Beilby Kirsten Birkett Henri A. G. Book excerpt: In Violence in the Hebrew Bible scholars reflect on texts of violence in the Hebrew Bible, as well as their often problematic reception history. Authoritative texts and traditions can be rewritten and adapted to new circumstances and insights. Texts are subject to a process of change. The study of the ways in which these (authoritative) biblical texts are produced and/or received in various socio-historical circumstances discloses a range of theological and ideological perspectives. In reflecting on these issues, the central question is how to allow for a given text’s plurality of possible and realised meanings while also retaining the ability to form critical judgments regarding biblical exegesis. This volume highlight that violence in particular is a fruitful area to explore this tension.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This fascinating and intelligent non-dogmatic study analyses the credibility of the first 11 chapters of the book of Genesis, from a combined perspective of philosophy, theology and science. The stories of how the world began and the creation of humankind are scrutinised by the author in an attempt to convey an advanced and objective understanding for its readers. The author has no intention to convert or de-convert to or from the Christian faith, instead, he chooses to share his findings with readers who can them make up their own mind. To support his plausible findings, he has evidenced and referenced a wealth of resources, and extensively researched this highly debated and constantly evolving topic. The finely detailed content reflects his meticulous undertaking, and the results are thought-provoking, to say the least. Everything has been included in this absorbing piece of work, from insights into extra-terrestrial beings, the bible's contradictory take on incest, eternal hell, moral standards, reproduction and symbolism, to the notion of the Babel tower myth, the reality of the animals on Noah's ark, the inconsistency of the flood stories, and the 'real' image of God; and the content throughout is highly compelling.

Book excerpt: The ultimate source text of Enochian Magic never before available in book form • Contains the actual and complete Tables of Enoch given to Dr. John Dee by the Angels • Explains the difference between Dee’s Tables of Enoch and the apocryphal Book of Enoch • Includes directions for powerful magic rituals and meditations using these tables • Presents a reconstruction of the possible 49th missing Table of Enoch Originally considered a vital part of inspirational literature used by the early church, the Book of Enoch never made it into the cannon or accepted books of the Old Testament because of its strange and mysterious content about Enoch’s experiences in the higher realms, or heavens. The real Book of Enoch, which is a set of almost 100 mystical tables, was given again to humankind in the 1580s, when it was conveyed directly by angels to Dr. John Dee, a 16th-century mathematician, scientist, occultist, and the astrologer of Queen Elizabeth I. Called “the most important book ever given to man by God” by Dee’s angelic messengers, the Book (or Tables) of Enoch is said to hold all the secrets of heaven and earth and the physical and spiritual realms. Decoding the Enochian Secrets reproduces for the first time ever the exact and complete copy of these tables, which are housed in the British Library. The tables are written in the handwriting of Dr. Dee and Edward Kelly, Dee’s assistant and scryer. The tables also include the phonetic pronunciations, written by Dee in the margins, of all the magical Enochian Calls. Covering the history of this Book or Tables of Enoch, John DeSalvo explains the difference between these tables and the apocryphal Book of Enoch and examines how later magicians such as Aleister Crowley used them. Including Enochian Magic Meditations and rituals, Decoding the Enochian Secrets presents the source text to the most powerful form of magic known to mankind.

Book excerpt: This landmark commentary marshals the vast experience and brilliant insights of one of today’s most revered Old Testament scholars. To those familiar with the work of Bruce K. Waltke, the significance and value of Genesis will be instantly apparent. Others who are unfamiliar with Waltke have only to read the first few chapters to understand why he has earned the reputation of a scholar’s scholar, and why this masterful volume stands like a monolith among Old Testament commentaries. Exploring the first book of the Bible as "theological literature," Waltke illuminates its meanings and methods for the pastor, scholar, teacher, student, and Bible-lover. Genesis strikes an unusual balance by emphasizing the theology of the Scripture text while also paying particular attention to the flow and development of the plot and literary techniques--inclusion, irony, chiasm, and concentric patterning--that shape the message of the "book of beginnings". Genesis Models the way to read and interpret the narratives of the book of Genesis Provides helpful exegetical notes that address key issues and debates surrounding the text Includes theological reflections on how the message addresses our contemporary theological and social issues, such as ecology, homosexuality, temperance, evil, prayer, and obedience Addresses critical interpretive issues, such as authenticity, date, and authorship For all the author’s formidable intellect and meticulous research, Genesis is amazingly accessible. This is no mere study tool. Lucidly and eloquently written, it is a work of the heart that helps us not only to understand deeply God’s Word in its context, but also to consider how it applies to us today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an analysis of translation technique, defining and measuring areas of literalness and of freedom, and discussing the evident acceptability of a non-literal approach, in both the original translation and later editorial work, to relevant communities. Because the Book of Jeremiah is so long, a quantitative analysis was valuable, showing: preservation of the sense of the Vorlage; freedom in selection of lexical equivalents even for important words such as "sin" and in making numerous additions in pursuit of precision; and a similar approach by later editors. Passages which are not represented in the translation despite their presence in the Hebrew Bible, and sometimes also in the Septuagint, are analysed, showing their value in illumination both the development of the Hebrew Bible itself from a number of earlier texts, and the precise wording of the text from which the Syriac translator worked. The strategies adopted to cope with the translation of particulary difficult Hebrew are analysed: these include taking guidance from the Septuagint, from other parts of the Hebrew Bible, and guesswork. Apart from its value to Peshitta scholars and Syriac specialists, the book is useful to biblical scholars and textual critics in general.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book is a compilation of studies on narratives of mythical origins in different cultures written by outstanding specialists. It aims to provide a broad view on creation-myths from different times and areas of the world with a particular focus on how these texts contributed to the conception of the past as “universal history”, as a common origin of mankind or as the great opening, the theatrum mundi. On the other hand, the purpose of this book is to study the phenomenon from a typological point of view, analyzing the specific characteristics of this particular type of texts, rather than finding influences between the different cultures in the genesis of these narratives.
