Book excerpt: Death of the Church Victorious traces, with abundant documentation, the roots and modern growth of “Protestant Zionism” and dispensational theology, i.e., God working in different ways in different periods of time, from its roots in the late 1700’s to the late 1900’s. The new and unique ideas presented during that time were considered unorthodox, even heresy. But through dedication and hard work, men such as John Darby, George Muller, Hudson Taylor, and Dwight Moody changed Christianity from victory to defeat, and exalted “Zionism” over the “Gospel Church.” Now non-dispensational theology is considered unorthodox. Moody’s Northfield conferences, the Civil War, and the publication of Scofield’s popular Reference Bible allowed “Zionism” and dispensationalism to become legitimate Biblical doctrines in America. If Protestants find a monk’s retreat from the world wrong, is their otherworldliness any the less objectionable? “Ovid Need’s study of Death of the Church Victorious, Tracing the Roots and Implications of Otherworldliness is a work of major importance. A false spirituality and an otherworldliness of anti-Biblical characters have long plagued the Christian Church and hobbled its progress… “Pastor Need analyzes those views in evangelical circles which are working against the future of the faith. His study is a summons to a Biblical faith and power. It is written with grace and insight. Its timelessness cannot be overstated. It is a joy to read, and a work that the Christian community should be grateful for.” ~ R. J. Rushdoony (from the Foreword) “Pastor Need brings to light dispensationalism’s dire effects: pessimism instead of prevailing, cowardice instead of conquering, isolation instead of involvement – a system offering a “rapturous” sneaking away at “any moment” instead of encouraging the saints to subjugate and subdue the enemy until victory is obtained!” ~ Dave MacPherson (from the foreword) This title is a direct print from and original copy.

Book excerpt: Death is man’s ultimate enemy. Death always brings crisis into his life and continually poses the existential threat to him. Man eternally seeks to probe the meaning of death. Christianity boldly proclaims that It has the answer. The author writes: “A religion that has as Its theme the death of Its Founder and His subsequent Victory over death must inevitably address Itself to the meaning of death. For it is because of Christ’s meaningful death that the Church can speak to the death of all men. All of Christian theology is related to the Death of Christ, so it is to His Death that the Church must always readdress Itself.” Time and circumstance have obscured and confused the message of Christ and the teachings on His Death. This book presents an intensive re-examination of the teachings of Jesus as well as profound insight into the meaning of His Death as presented in the Gospels and the Epistles. In a clear, cogent manner the author develops a new and incisive characterization of man’s ultimate enemy, Death.

Book excerpt: Death is often thought of as the inescapable terminus of life"€"something which, in the end, overpowers and conquers us. But in Christian theology, the death of Christ has central significance for our salvation. Christ died victoriously, conquering death and triumphing over his and our enemies. His death is our life. This glorious truth occupied a large place in the thinking of Scottish theologian Hugh Martin (1822"€"85). Martin is best known for his mind-stretching books such as The Atonement and The Shadow of Calvary, and for his insightful character study of Simon Peter. But there exists a significant corpus of largely forgotten shorter writings from his pen which major on the significance of the cross of Christ. This volume brings together a number of Martin's sermons, essays and letters, many of which have not been published since the nineteenth century.

Book excerpt: Christ's Victorious Church represents the synthesis of concerns that made the teaching of Tom Friskney so influential. Written by some of his former students and colleagues, the essays in this collection combine interests in critically informed exegesis, the construction of a genuinely and comprehensively biblical theology, the lived experience of Christianity, and the proclamation of the gospel to the church and the world. Emphasizing the crucial biblical perspectives on the church as the people of God and the last things as the climax and fulfillment of God's work in the world, this volume celebrates and carries forward the legacy of a quietly inspiring scholar, teacher and minister. From 1954 to 2001, Tom Friskney taught as a professor at Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary. Though his many interests enabled him to teach a variety of subjects, his greatest impact was in New Testament studies. That impact can be seen in a generation of former students - serving as college and seminary educators, ministers and volunteers - who cite him as their formative influence. These essays, written by former students and colleagues to honor their mentor and friend, discuss the twin emphases of Tom Friskney's teaching, the church and the last things. In keeping with the honoree's wide-ranging pursuits, they vary from the scholarly to the homiletical to the reflective.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twentieth century has created this great debate among those of the church here in America and around the world: Do Christians get taken up before the great tribulation or after? This debate seems to bounce back-and-forth with one idea against another, and when all is said and done, nobody seems to be the better for it one way or another. Scripture after scripture is quoted for pre-trib and then post-trib with such serious proclamation and both sides end up walking away in great dismay wondering about the other, "How could they not see what I was saying?" Is there an end to this debate before some telling time or event comes along for all to see? It was the apostle Paul who tackled this topic with great care and understanding. His discourse was with great insight and revelation that seemed to have come from the Lord Himself. In Paul's writings to Corinth, he finally came to state, "Then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory." What was Paul declaring here when he said "swallowed up"? Where has the church stood on the term "swallowed up"? Where are all the debaters at in regard to this term? Could this statement of Paul's be an end to this debate? I most assuredly say yes. I have found that Paul's statement is an irrefutable one declaring a post tribulation res/rap judgment. All of Paul's teachings on this topic are in full agreement, strengthening this idea without controversy. Once you see it and understand it, you will be converted to stand by it! Come take a look for yourself.

Book excerpt: "The Victorious Lady" is about Nikki's personal journey down the path of a Victorious life in the Lord, and that life is not one without loss, heartache, tears, and brokenness. Faith, hope, trust, believe....these words are the essence and foundation of God's word. These are the words that Nikki found difficult to walk in after the traumatic death of her husband. Hopelessness took its place in her heart. She felt like she had no faith because if she did, then why this trauma in her life? Why did God tell her to "Rejoice" at her husband's death bed? Could she really trust God after the loss of her husband, vision, hopes and dreams? What was left to believe in? It was by the Grace of God that she had the courage to hang on to these words and keep walking with Him and let Him love her and guide her through the pain and heal her broken heart. She didn't choose to be single, but found victory through the fears, hurts, struggles and loneliness. As she walked the journey of a widow, she found it to be a very lonely walk. The Lord spoke to her and said "Take loneliness by the hand and don't allow it to be your enemy but let it be your friend." She asked the Lord many times throughout the years about what she should be doing and His answer every time was "I'm not as concerned about what you are doing as I am about what you are becoming." God has breathed life into her on this journey. She didn't know what to hope for or dream anymore. She had no desires. Walking this journey taught her that her only desire is the desire for the Lord God Almighty.

On April 8th 2007, I witnessed one of these events and it was supernatural in nature. As I set out to understand the events of that day the Lord led me to the Word of God, that it should answer all I had prayed and asked. The information in, "Death is swallowed up in Victory" is the beginning of the answers I was led to. I do not believe the full meaning of the events were intended for my private interpretation. As believers, we are the Body of Christ and in that fullness our understanding comes when we share our findings concerning this forgotten biblical information.
