Book excerpt: Excerpt from Deacon Samuel Haines of Westbury, Wiltshire, England, and His Descendants in America, 1635-1901 The biographical sketches form a unique portion of the work, which will be read with interest. They would have been ex tended if more data along that line had been sent in. Four thousand two hundred and forty-three names have been indexed, one thousand nine hundred and twenty-four of which are Haines or Haynes. As far as the record reveals, up to the sixth generation, with one exception, all the members of our family wrote the name Haines. Since then a considerable number of families, and indi vidual members of other families, have written it Haynes. The Christian names have been spelled as they have been sent in to me, unless there was an obvious error; and some of the early names as I suppose they were spelled by those who bore them.
