Book Synopsis Preaching the Miracles, Series III, Cycle B by : Harold H. Lentz
Download or read book Preaching the Miracles, Series III, Cycle B written by Harold H. Lentz and published by CSS Publishing. This book was released on 1999 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One cannot read the miracles of Christ reported in the gospel of Mark without being convinced of the divinity of Christ. John Mark repeatedly records Christ's divine powers over nature, illness, severe physical handicaps, and sin. These events in which God's power entered into human situations had profound effects on those who witnessed them -- and they continue to teach us great spiritual truths today. Pastors will find this volume packed with valuable idea starters for their sermons. For each miracle in Cycle B, Harold Lentz shares background material, sermon approaches, and several illustrations. Instead of wondering, "What shall I preach on this Sunday?" you'll be thinking, "I can't wait to share all this information with my people!" Harold H. Lentz served as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ashland, Ohio, prior to becoming the president of Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. As a pastor he increased the active membership of his congregation from 725 to 1,067. His Sunday morning sermons were broadcast and according to surveys were heard by more listeners than popular national preachers. As president of Carthage College, Lentz oversaw the relocation of its campus from Carthage, Illinois, to Kenosha, Wisconsin. This multi-million dollar effort resulted in a quadrupling of enrollment. The recipient of three honorary degrees, Dr. Lentz earned his Ph.D. with honors from Yale University, where he was named a University Fellow. He also holds degrees from Wittenberg University, Hamma School of Theology, and Oberlin College. This is his fifth publication.

Book Synopsis Preaching the Miracles by : Dallas A. Brauninger
Download or read book Preaching the Miracles written by Dallas A. Brauninger and published by CSS Publishing. This book was released on 1996 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While this book offers information for the sermon writer, the design of its contents provides more than the ho-hum. It avoids presenting a ready-made cloak of words for a morning sermon. Instead it invites preachers and their audiences to explore the gap between the "back then" and the "now." It not only helps answer questions, it generates them -- a crucial element in understanding the miracles of Jesus. Five sections are devoted to each of the nine miracles in Cycle B (all from Mark): Text -- For easy access the entire lectionary text is provided, preventing the need to flip back and forth to the Bible. What's Happening? -- This gives a synopsis of points of action within each miracle story. By reviewing the story action, readers define its movement, the conflict and the change or resolution. Connecting Points -- Conversations -- This section offers the central material of each chapter. Here Brauninger engages the preacher in an imaginary exchange before the text is given its usual preparatory attention. A visit with main characters and an occasional bystander nudges readers toward stepping into their sandals. This section invites the preacher and listening audience. This section invites the preacher and the listening audience to ask questions relevant for them, thus expanding their questioning, and therefore their understanding. Words -- Here significant words are examined. While this work is not intended as a scholarly study, it assists in placing things in proper context. Gospel Parallels -- This section highlights similarities and differences among parallel stories and other gospels. There is also a helpful bibliography included. This new series from Brauninger promises to be a favorite among preachers. Through it audiences will become aware of how God speaks to them through miracle stories and will enable them to hear their inner voice and more clearly understand it themselves. Dallas A. Brauninger received her Master of Divinity and Doctor of Divinity degrees from the Chicago Theological Seminary. A full-time writer, Brauninger has served churches in Colorado and Nebraska. She and her husband, also an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ, live in West Point, Nebraska. This is her seventh book.

Book Synopsis The Ministry Multiplication Cycle by : Bill Jones
Download or read book The Ministry Multiplication Cycle written by Bill Jones and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-04-28 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After harmonizing the four Gospels into one unified story, the author examines the ministry of Jesus to see what we can learn today for our own churches and ministries. As the story unfolds, one finds Jesus implementing four strategic ministry tactics, in this order: •Outsiders becoming new believers through evangelism •New believers becoming committed disciples through establishing •Committed disciples becoming effective workers through equipping •Effective workers becoming world Christians through missions mobilization Together these four tactics form the “ministry multiplication cycle.” To determine whether this strategy is truly a biblical strategy or not, an in-depth look is then taken into the book of Acts. There we find the apostles, the men whom Jesus trained, implementing these same four tactics in the exact same order, with the exact same results—powerful growth through multiplication. The question remains whether the ministry multiplication cycle can be replicated today in our own culture. The answer is a resounding “yes,” when we learn to think in terms of principles and not just practices. This book is a product of over thirty years of clarifying these principles in the classroom and implementing them around the world, the latter resulting in over two thousand churches being planted among unreached people groups.

Determined to do things differently, Julian set out to take back the record for the people. Life Cycles is his story of that record, riding 110 miles every 24 hours for 6 months on only ?8.84 a day - a route through jungles, snow and 20 different countries. He found himself stranded without money in the deserts of Kazakhstan, held up by insurrections in northwest China, and sleeping under motorway bridges in America's Deep South. Taken by life on the road and a spirit of adventure, he loved every minute of it. A tale of excitement and world politics by bicycle, travelling at 12mph, Julian found that the Tartars of Central Asia aren't so different to the trailer families of Louisiana. This book is a reminder that the world is out there... and it's waiting for us. 'This is a very inspiring tale that says alot about the human race, its hopes and expectations, and there is even a bit about the bicycle, especially spoke breakages' - Mike Burrows, Designer of Chris Boardman's 1992 Olympic-winning bicycle
