Sa préoccupation essentielle consiste à présenter aux enseignants, aux responsables pédagogiques et aux chercheurs une entrée abordable dans le domaine de la construction d’un curriculum. Il fournit à ceux qui se trouvent confrontés à ce travail un guide et des pistes de réflexion de manière à éviter les ornières bien connues des spécialistes afin que la mise au point d’un curriculum d’enseignement ou de formation ne se résume pas à un exercice de style se cristallisant sous une forme politico-administrative qui ne fait pas sens pour les acteurs. Le terme « curriculum », beaucoup plus large que celui de « programme », est d’ailleurs préféré et ce choix indique bien que l’ouvrage n’est pas un cours de rhétorique administrative, mais vise à amener les acteurs à s’approprier, à travers une démarche complexe et réfléchie, les outils nécessaires à la mise en œuvre d’innovations et à leur pilotage.
