Book Synopsis National Identity in Times of Crises by : Nora Femenia
Download or read book National Identity in Times of Crises written by Nora Femenia and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 1996 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the 21st century dawns, the world is experiencing a firestorm of local and regional wars. But these wars are significantly different from other such wars during the past hundred years. The two major differences are the current advanced state of weaponry and the presence of big media simultaneously constructing different and contradicting realities. National identity mobilization is the driving force behind these disputes which UN seems unable to resolve. The Falklands-Malvinas War between Argentina and the United Kingdom is particularly instructive for understanding of regional and local wars. The participants were from different continents, cultures, military strengths and possessed vastly different basic assumptions. The author examines this war as a case study crucial to a clearer understanding of national self-images; mobilization of national identity, and aggressive decision-making. -- Amazon.com.

This book was released on 2007 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The training of cultural managers has been one of the most important lines of action of the UNESCO Chair in Cultural Policies and Cooperation of the University of Girona since its creation, both in the practical aspect of the post-graduate training courses on offer and in the reflection on the particularities of their morphology and application.\nThis publication culminates a process and period shared with many students and teachers who have participated in our activities and meetings and presents some of the principles that have oriented our action as well as the intellectual confrontation with other trainers and collaborators. We believe that these contributions can help to reflect on and more fully explore training in the culture sector.\nWe hope to open a wider debate with its contents and encourage real exchange between trainers from different contexts. \n\n\n
Book Synopsis Identity and Modernity in Latin America by : Jorge Larrain
Download or read book Identity and Modernity in Latin America written by Jorge Larrain and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-05-02 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this important new book Jorge Larrain examines the trajectories of modernity and identity in Latin America and their reciprocal relationships. Drawing on a large body of work across a vast historical and geographical range, he offers an innovative and wide-ranging account of the cultural transformations and processes of modernization that have occurred in Latin America since colonial times. The book begins with a theoretical discussion of the concepts of modernity and identity. In contrast to theories which present modernity and identity in Latin America as mutually excluding phenomena, the book shows their continuity and interconnection. It also traces historically the respects in which the Latin American trajectory to modernity differs from or converges with other trajectories, using this as a basis to explore specific elements of Latin America's culture and modernity today. The originality of Larrain's approach lies in the wide coverage and combination of sources drawn from the social sciences, history and literature. The volume relates social commentaries, literary works and media developments to the periods covered, to the changing social end economic structure, and to changes in the prevailing ideologies. This book will appeal to second and third-year undergraduates and Masters level students doing courses in sociology, cultural studies and Latin American history, politics and literature. .

Book Synopsis World Literature, Cosmopolitanism, Globality by : Gesine Müller
Download or read book World Literature, Cosmopolitanism, Globality written by Gesine Müller and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2019-10-21 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From today’s vantage point it can be denied that the confidence in the abilities of globalism, mobility, and cosmopolitanism to illuminate cultural signification processes of our time has been severely shaken. In the face of this crisis, a key concept of this globalizing optimism as World Literature has been for the past twenty years necessarily is in the need of a comprehensive revision. World Literature, Cosmopolitanism, Globality: Beyond, Against, Post, Otherwise offers a wide range of contributions approaching the blind spots of the globally oriented Humanities for phenomena that in one way or another have gone beyond the discourses, aesthetics, and political positions of liberal cosmopolitanism and neoliberal globalization. Departing basically (but not exclusively) from different examples of Latin American literatures and cultures in globalized contexts, this volume provides innovative insights into critical readings of World Literature and its related conceptualizations. A timely book that embraces highly innovative perspectives, it will be a mustread for all scholars involved in the field of the global dimensions of literature.

Book Synopsis An Opportunity for a Different Peru by : Marcelo Giugale
Download or read book An Opportunity for a Different Peru written by Marcelo Giugale and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2007 with total page 860 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the first time in the republican history of Peru, the presidential transition takes place in democracy, social peace, fast economic growth and favorable world markets. In other words, there has never been a better chance to build a different Peru - a richer country, more equal and governable. There are multiple ways to achieve that goal. New reforms must stem from a widespread and participatory debate, one of a common vision conceived for and by Peruvians. This book aims at making a technical and independent contribution to such debate; it summarizes the knowledge available about the challenges to be faced by the new administration. The study does not recommend silver bullets, but suggests policy options. It is based on the analysis of the current reality and in six decades of relationships with Peru, in which the Bank has implemented more than 100 projects and prepared more than 500 technical reports covering the wide range of development topics. When necessary, the study provides lessons that the Bank has learned elsewhere. The study provides a conceptual framework to the analysis of the country's 34 economic sectors and the two historical perspectives behind them. In doing so, it offers a comprehensive reform agenda that sheds light on possible priorities and courses of action.
