Book Synopsis The Latin New Testament by : H. A. G. Houghton
Download or read book The Latin New Testament written by H. A. G. Houghton and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an open access title available under the terms of a CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence. It is free to read at Oxford Scholarship Online and offered as a free PDF download from OUP and selected open access locations. Latin is the language in which the New Testament was copied, read, and studied for over a millennium. The remains of the initial 'Old Latin' version preserve important testimony for early forms of text and the way in which the Bible was understood by the first translators. Successive revisions resulted in a standard version subsequently known as the Vulgate which, along with the creation of influential commentaries by scholars such as Jerome and Augustine, shaped theology and exegesis for many centuries. Latin gospel books and other New Testament manuscripts illustrate the continuous tradition of Christian book culture, from the late antique codices of Roman North Africa and Italy to the glorious creations of Northumbrian scriptoria, the pandects of the Carolingian era, eleventh-century Giant Bibles, and the Paris Bibles associated with the rise of the university. In The Latin New Testament, H. A. G. Houghton provides a comprehensive introduction to the history and development of the Latin New Testament. Drawing on major editions and recent advances in scholarship, he offers a new synthesis which brings together evidence from Christian authors and biblical manuscripts from earliest times to the late Middle Ages. All manuscripts identified as containing Old Latin evidence for the New Testament are described in a catalogue, along with those featured in the two principal modern editions of the Vulgate. A user's guide is provided for these editions and the other key scholarly tools for studying the Latin New Testament.

Book Synopsis Our Friendship Rules by : Peggy Moss
Download or read book Our Friendship Rules written by Peggy Moss and published by Tilbury House Publishers and Cadent Publishing. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: *Moonbeam GOLD Award* Our Friendship Rules is a story of betrayal and forgiveness and a guidebook on relationships. A vibrant new cover and new backmatter suggesting the rules of an enduring friendship highlight this new edition of a Tilbury House children’s classic. Kids are under a lot of pressure to fit in. Sometimes bowing to this pressure forces them to betray their own ideas of what is right and wrong. Alexandra and Jenny have been best friends for a long time, but when Alexandra is dazzled by a glamorous new girl at school, she’s willing to do almost anything to be the cool girl’s friend, including first shunning Jenny and then revealing Jenny’s biggest, most important secret. Seeing the hurt she has caused and realizing how bad it feels to lose her best friend, Alexandra then seeks a way to regain the relationship that means far more to her than being invited to sit with the popular girls. Ultimately, she and Jenny write down the rules that will cement their friendship forever. OUR FRIENDSHIP RULES is both a lyrical story of forgiveness and a guidebook on relationships. Author Peggy Moss employs her training as a mediator and communication expert to provide a simple, sweet but instructive tale of how to get along. The evocative collage-paintings of Alissa Imre Geis further illustrate the many layers of personality. Her Alexandra will amaze you with her artistic eye, and her Jenny will make you smile with her practical sensibility as you see these best friends reconnect with the help of their friendship rules. Book Synopsis Respectable Mothers, Tough Men and Good Daughters by : Salo, Elaine R.
Download or read book Respectable Mothers, Tough Men and Good Daughters written by Salo, Elaine R. and published by Langaa RPCIG. This book was released on 2018-08-08 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book examines how men and women in Manenberg township, on Cape Town’s inner periphery, manoeuvre to re-define themselves as gendered persons deserving of dignity, through the quotidian practices of ordentlikheid or respectability. Salo shows how reclamation of dignity is an intergenerational and gendered process that is messy and uneven, involves the expression of often-brutal physical and social exclusion of individuals through embodied and social violence. Theoretically, the narrative makes visible the careful, painstaking processes of place making and claiming dignity by men and women in a place represented as a wasteland in the dominant discourse of grand apartheid and in the contemporary neo-liberal turn in Cape Town.
