Book Synopsis Cost-Benefit Analysis by : Harry F. Campbell
Download or read book Cost-Benefit Analysis written by Harry F. Campbell and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-07-30 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A social cost-benefit analysis of a proposed publicly funded project, or public policy change, may be commissioned by a municipal, state or federal government, by a government aid agency, or by an international. Proponents of a private project which has significant social impacts may also commission an economic analysis of this type. The key economic questions of any social cost-benefit analysis are: do the benefits of the project exceed the costs, no matter how widely costs and benefits are spread? And which group or groups of individuals benefit and which bear the costs? This book addresses these questions with an emphasis on putting the theory into practice. The book has several unique features: readers are encouraged to develop their own skills by applying the tools and techniques of cost-benefit analysis to case studies including a project which is developed through the book; the use of spreadsheets is emphasised which is invaluable in allowing readers to test variables and cross-check the accuracy of their economic appraisal; and a dedicated chapter provides guidance on writing up a report which completes the analysis. An appendix lists additional case studies which can be developed in class or as additional projects. Each chapter contains exercises and suggestions for further reading. This book is an ideal text for a course on cost-benefit analysis where the emphasis is on practical applications and teaching students to conduct their own analysis. Book Synopsis Environment and Transport in Economic Modelling by : Roberto Roson
Download or read book Environment and Transport in Economic Modelling written by Roberto Roson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis of the relationship between transport and environmental policy invites an interdisciplinary treatment and a variety of approaches, and rightly so. An important subset of the approaches used involves economic analysis. Economic approaches often consider pricing policies, attempting to evaluate their effectiveness in comparison with more traditional measures such as `command and control' regulation and directed technological innovation. Another important subset of approaches involves simulation modelling, where key relationships are presented mathematically so that their influence can be quantified and their interrelationships discerned precisely. This book treats the intersection of these two subsets: simulation models with a strong economic content. This intersection defines a broad but powerful way to study environment and transport. Its breadth is illustrated by the wide range of policies treated here, from carbon taxes to speed limits. Its power derives from the way insights into interrelated actions and the role of markets - the strong points of economic theory - are cast into a form suitable for making quantitative predictions about the results of policies. Case studies are used to show how simulation models can be designed and used to quantify the effectiveness of economic policies in terms of transport systems management and environmental protection, the emphasis being on the role of the markets in tracing the many effects that policies have, both anticipated and otherwise.

Book Synopsis User and Non-user Benefit Analysis for Highways by :
Download or read book User and Non-user Benefit Analysis for Highways written by and published by American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document updates and expands the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) User Benefit Analysis for Highways, also known as the Red Book. This AASHTO publication helps state and local transportation planning authorities evaluate the economic benefits of highway improvements. This update incorporates improvements in user-benefit calculation methods and, for the first time, provides guidance for evaluating important non-user impacts of highways. Previous editions of the Red Book provided guidance regarding user benefit measurement only. This update provides a framework for project evaluations that accurately account for both user and non-user benefits. The manual and accompanying CD-ROM provide a valuable resource for people who analyze the benefits and costs of highway projects.

Book Synopsis Variable Speed Limit System Cost Benefit Analysis by :
Download or read book Variable Speed Limit System Cost Benefit Analysis written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The variable speed limit (VSL) system is designed to display both the maximum and minimum speed boundaries based on measured traffic and environmental conditions. In addition, short driver information messages can be displayed to warn of downstream conditions. The VSL can be installed to operate independently (Isolated), in a series of stations (Linked), as a component of a larger management system (Integrated), and in the future as part of an "In-Vehicle" component to provide all types of driver information (In-Vehicle). This analysis compares the four types of VSL systems to the existing "fixed" speed limit system which can display only one speed for all conditions
