Book Synopsis Environmental Risk and Corporate Behaviour by : Rui Xue
Download or read book Environmental Risk and Corporate Behaviour written by Rui Xue and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-09-19 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The accelerating global climate change risk highlights the importance of a quick transition towards a “cleaner” world. Although steady progress has already been made globally, substantial improvement cannot be achieved without sufficient financial support, especially during the post-COVID-19 recovery period, where countries worldwide have to prioritize the economic recovery which might limit the support for climate change mitigation and adaptation. Firms are the main greenhouse gas emitters and their contributions to the green transition thus are of vital importance to achieving a low-carbon transition. However, firms normally lack motivation to make green efforts, even worse, the business lockdowns and the supply chain disruptions during the pandemic have further weakened their already minimal commitment to mitigating climate change risks.

Book Synopsis Economics and Policies in Formulating Renewable Power Development Plans by : Bai-Chen Xie
Download or read book Economics and Policies in Formulating Renewable Power Development Plans written by Bai-Chen Xie and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-11-06 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renewable energy has been considered as an effective way to deal with challenges caused by energy security and climate change. In the past decades, the share of renewable energy in the energy mix has been increasing with a proportion of around 25% globally benefitting from the steady maturity of economical, technological and political issues. However, the gap between expectations of fast, renewables-driven energy transitions and the reality of today’s energy systems which rely heavily on fossil fuels remains stubbornly large. The development of renewable energy still faces uncertainties, among them are cost changes driven by the potential technology breakthroughs, renewable power market-oriented progress, and various challenges related to grid interconnection of such intermittent renewable energy resources, and some other factors. Many countries and regions have issued their plans in boosting the development of renewable power. However, not one renewable power exploitation plan is acceptable universally due to the varied developing level of economies and societies. It is of great significance to explore the economic, technological, and political influences of related factors in achieving the development target for renewable energy.

Book Synopsis The Impact of Environmental Regulation on Competitiveness in the German Manufacturing Industry by : Ursula Triebswetter
Download or read book The Impact of Environmental Regulation on Competitiveness in the German Manufacturing Industry written by Ursula Triebswetter and published by Peter Lang Publishing. This book was released on 2004 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines in three case studies whether German plants suffer from a negative impact on competitiveness caused by stringent environmental legislation. A micro level analysis showed that abatement initiatives had in general been implemented without economic damage and did not touch on the core business. Moreover, German sample plants ranked environmental pressure as relatively unimportant compared with other competitive pressures. Finally, the low absolute levels of compliance costs, at least in two of the case studies, explained why environmental regulation cannot have a great influence on competitiveness in the chosen sectors. High productivity levels were not among the essential factors explaining our findings. It implies for our case studies that also plants with lower productivity can withstand high compliance costs.

Download or read book Creating Shareholder Value written by Alfred Rappaport and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 1999-10-13 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Economist, consultant, and Wall Street Journal contributor Alfred Rappaport provides managers and investors with the practical tools and tests for a corporate strategy that creates shareholder value. The ultimate test of corporate strategy, the only reliable measure, is whether it creates economic value for shareholders. After a decade of downsizings frequently blamed on shareholder value decision making, this book presents a new and indepth assessment of the rationale for shareholder value. Further, Rappaport presents provocative new insights on shareholder value applications to: (1) business planning, (2) performance evaluation, (3) executive compensation, (4) mergers and acquisitions, (5) interpreting stock market signals, and (6) organizational implementation. Readers will be particularly interested in Rappaport's answers to three management performance evaluation questions: (1) What is the most appropriate measure of performance? (2) What is the most appropriate target level of performance? and (3) How should rewards be linked to performance? Through the lens of high-stakes case studies, like the notable acquisition of Duracell International by Gillette, Rappaport dissects the intricate decisions and risks inherent in the merger and acquisition process. The shareholder value approach presented here has been widely embraced by publicly traded as well as privately held companies worldwide. Brilliant and incisive, this is the one book that should be required reading for managers and investors who want to stay on the cutting edge of success in a highly competitive global economy.
