Book excerpt: Si le nombre d'évènements générateurs de risques en tunnel routier est faible, plusieurs évènements récents ont montré que les incendies de véhicule peuvent rapidement prendre des proportions catastrophiques. Pour limiter les conséquences de tels évènements, la réglementation française impose aux exploitants de tunnels des dispositions techniques et des dispositions d'exploitation. Les premières reposent sur les moyens mis à disposition des usagers pour assurer leur propre sécurité. Les secondes consistent en particulier à mettre en place un dispositif d'analyse des évènements significatifs. A la lumière du retour d'expérience, force est de constater que le comportement observé des usagers n'est pas celui attendu. Comme dans d'autres domaines, le retour d'expérience en tunnel routier a d'abord été élaboré dans une optique « technique » et « quantitative ». Les progrès technologiques ayant permis d'atteindre un niveau de sécurité élevé, il est aujourd'hui nécessaire d'avoir une démarche qualitative qui inclut les aspects humains et organisationnels. Ce travail de recherche a été mis en place dans l'objectif d'intégrer dans le retour d'expérience la connaissance des fondements du comportement humain (usager et exploitant) lors des évènements en tunnel routier. Nous allons présenter une méthode de recueil de témoignage des usagers développée à partir des études menées sur le comportement des personnes en situation d'évacuation en cas de crises. Celle-ci a été utilisée au cours d'exercices de sécurité et à la suite d'événements réels. Elle apporte des éléments objectifs de compréhension du comportement des usagers face à des situations de danger permettant d'aller au-delà de certaines idées préconçues. Ils ont permis d'élaborer un modèle d'évacuation des usagers et de proposer des adaptations des dispositifs de sécurité réglementaires prévus pour l'évacuation des usagers
