Book excerpt: Transnational Marketing and Transnational Consumers are becoming increasingly common in today's globalizing and fast moving world of business. This book presents a fresh perspective focusing on the transnational character of organizations and firms while underlining the importance of the transnationality of marketing strategies for success. At the same time, it introduces the novel concepts of Transnational Consumers and Transnational Mobile Consumers which take into account the increasing human mobility and its implications for marketing success. This book gives flesh to the ever popular shorthand "glocal" referring to strategies thinking globally but acting locally. This is the reality of current business environment where the norm is fast mobility of goods, services, finance, and consumers. Transnational Mobility of Consumers is of increasing importance for understanding transnational marketing. Prof. Ibrahim Sirkeci’s new book, Transnational Marketing and Transnational Consumers, deals with this important issue in an excellent way. The book is highly recommendable for both academics and practitioners in International Marketing. Svend Hollensen University of Southern Denmark Author of ‘Global Marketing’ (Pearson)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each chapter in this book by itself is a worthy contribution to the existing research on the TNC in a globalised world. In-spire, Journal of Law, Politics and Societies The argument of this book is so powerful and convincing because it focuses on global subpolitics: the corporate (ir)responsibility, the power of its critics, and the consuming citizen. This shift of perspectives and its sophistication makes Moralizing the Corporation a must-read for anyone interested in the dynamics of globalization. Ulrich Beck, University of Munich, Germany Moralizing the Corporation offers a multi-disciplinary analysis of the conflicts between transnational corporations and transnational advocacy groups. The book is theoretically sophisticated and full of interesting and nuanced empirical findings that generate new knowledge about the relationship between politics and markets. It views transnational corporations as quasi-public institutions and explains their vulnerability to the non-state authority of political consumers and protest groups. Holzer develops theory on transnational subpolitics and corporate reflexivity and should be read by scholars and activists alike. Michele Micheletti, University of Stockholm, Sweden This insightful book examines how transnational corporations respond to the challenges of anti-corporate activism and political consumerism. In prominent cases involving major corporations such as Nestlé, Nike and Royal Dutch/Shell, transnational activists have successfully mobilized public opinion and consumers against alleged corporate misdemeanours. Campaigns and boycott calls can harm a corporation s image but, as this book points out, public scrutiny also gives corporations the opportunity to present themselves as responsible and accountable corporate citizens who subscribe to the very norms and values propagated by the activists. Academics, scholars and postgraduate students in international business management, organization studies, social movement studies and political sociology will find this book invaluable.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Far removed from the markets they're meant to serve, insensitive to market needs, inflexible in how they do business, America's oliuopolistic corporations are terrorizing consumers. The result is that the American market system does not work as it should, and indeed, performs far below its potential. Samli argues that the system should not be treated as though it were sacrosanct. Indeed, it must be made to do more than it is doing to encourage competition and create consumer value—things it neglects, says Samli, because of a mistaken notion that laissez-fairism is working well, and that in today's free economy things are just fine. Not so, and corporations are actually suffering on their bottom lines. By creating true consumer value and by stopping their headlong rush to merge and thereby decrease competition, corporations can achieve their profit goals more easily, and even establish higher ones. The trick is to pay more attention to their customers, to be more responsive to their needs and wishes, and in Samli's words, to turn a kinder and gentler face to the world. His book is a challenging, provocative declaration for policy makers in the public and private sectors, and for academics, an important adjunct to their studies of how business, government, and society interact. First, says Samli, merger mania must stop. Government must exercise its full power to protect, inform, and educate consumers—and take care that business, unchecked, does not prey upon them. He cites evidence that consumers are not equal, that many are frail and vulnerable, and that in many markets they are simply being ignored. Samli maintains that far from being hostile to business, he sees business as actually working against itself. If business thinks of, and works for, the benefit of the consumer, if it eschews strategies that simply cut costs and contribute to self-enlargement, consumers will become empowered. In fact, Samli calls for more regulation, not less, and for more competition. He also calls for consumers who are better educated, and for the nation to cultivate its resources—human and environmental—in ways that will enhance economic performance, not only for society that depends on corporations, but for corporations themselves that depend on society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ethical Issues in International Marketing is a valuable resource for readers'increasing need for knowledge of this important area. In recent years, ethical issues in international marketing have come to the forefront due to publicity and controversy generated from several international cases of questionable ethics. To date, little research has been conducted in the area of international marketing ethics. Delener's book comes at an important time to alert readers to the growing concern for greater ethical behavior in the international marketing arena. It provides illustrations to give readers hands-on experiences that can transfer directly into the marketing world.Delener and his contributing authors identify the unique importance of ethics and corporate social responsibility in global markets. Ethical Issues in International Marketing was conceived to allow researchers the liberty to explore the topic in the context of an environment supportive of the difficulties associated with this type of research. The contributing authors discuss these main topics: A social contract for analyzing and evaluating the activities of transnational corporations in developing countries The relationship of marketing ethics to gray markets for consumer goods How moral commitment is shaped by socialization and role of culture in Turkey The relationship between Egyptian consumers'ideology and theirperceptions of ethical behavior Readers who desire to make steps toward better global decisionmaking will find this a compelling book. The authors make readers realize that conducting business transactions efficiently and effectively in a mere technocratic sense is no longer sufficient. Ethical issues in the international marketing environment are best addressed in learning more about the differences between cultures, which this book begins to do.
