Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a collection of invited works that consider constructive methods for neural networks, taken primarily from papers presented at a special th session held during the 18 International Conference on Artificial Neural Networks (ICANN 2008) in September 2008 in Prague, Czech Republic. The book is devoted to constructive neural networks and other incremental learning algorithms that constitute an alternative to the standard method of finding a correct neural architecture by trial-and-error. These algorithms provide an incremental way of building neural networks with reduced topologies for classification problems. Furthermore, these techniques produce not only the multilayer topologies but the value of the connecting synaptic weights that are determined automatically by the constructing algorithm, avoiding the risk of becoming trapped in local minima as might occur when using gradient descent algorithms such as the popular back-propagation. In most cases the convergence of the constructing algorithms is guaranteed by the method used. Constructive methods for building neural networks can potentially create more compact and robust models which are easily implemented in hardware and used for embedded systems. Thus a growing amount of current research in neural networks is oriented towards this important topic. The purpose of this book is to gather together some of the leading investigators and research groups in this growing area, and to provide an overview of the most recent advances in the techniques being developed for constructive neural networks and their applications.
Book Synopsis Image Processing Using Pulse-Coupled Neural Networks by : Thomas Lindblad
Download or read book Image Processing Using Pulse-Coupled Neural Networks written by Thomas Lindblad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-11-28 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to explain and demonstrate the tremendous ability of Pulse-Coupled Neural Networks (PCNNs) when applied to the field of image processing. PCNNs and their derivatives are biologically inspired models that are powerful tools for extracting texture, segments, and edges from images. As these attributes form the foundations of most image processing tasks, the use of PCNNs facilitates traditional tasks such as recognition, foveation, and image fusion. PCNN technology has also paved the way for new image processing techniques such as object isolation, spiral image fusion, image signatures, and content-based image searches. This volume contains examples of several image processing applications, as well as a review of hardware implementations.

Book Synopsis Generative Adversarial Networks for Image-to-Image Translation by : Arun Solanki
Download or read book Generative Adversarial Networks for Image-to-Image Translation written by Arun Solanki and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2021-06-22 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) have started a revolution in Deep Learning, and today GAN is one of the most researched topics in Artificial Intelligence. Generative Adversarial Networks for Image-to-Image Translation provides a comprehensive overview of the GAN (Generative Adversarial Network) concept starting from the original GAN network to various GAN-based systems such as Deep Convolutional GANs (DCGANs), Conditional GANs (cGANs), StackGAN, Wasserstein GANs (WGAN), cyclical GANs, and many more. The book also provides readers with detailed real-world applications and common projects built using the GAN system with respective Python code. A typical GAN system consists of two neural networks, i.e., generator and discriminator. Both of these networks contest with each other, similar to game theory. The generator is responsible for generating quality images that should resemble ground truth, and the discriminator is accountable for identifying whether the generated image is a real image or a fake image generated by the generator. Being one of the unsupervised learning-based architectures, GAN is a preferred method in cases where labeled data is not available. GAN can generate high-quality images, images of human faces developed from several sketches, convert images from one domain to another, enhance images, combine an image with the style of another image, change the appearance of a human face image to show the effects in the progression of aging, generate images from text, and many more applications. GAN is helpful in generating output very close to the output generated by humans in a fraction of second, and it can efficiently produce high-quality music, speech, and images. Introduces the concept of Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), including the basics of Generative Modelling, Deep Learning, Autoencoders, and advanced topics in GAN Demonstrates GANs for a wide variety of applications, including image generation, Big Data and data analytics, cloud computing, digital transformation, E-Commerce, and Artistic Neural Networks Includes a wide variety of biomedical and scientific applications, including unsupervised learning, natural language processing, pattern recognition, image and video processing, and disease diagnosis Provides a robust set of methods that will help readers to appropriately and judiciously use the suitable GANs for their applications
Book Synopsis Generative Adversarial Networks for Image Generation by : Xudong Mao
Download or read book Generative Adversarial Networks for Image Generation written by Xudong Mao and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-21 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generative adversarial networks (GANs) were introduced by Ian Goodfellow and his co-authors including Yoshua Bengio in 2014, and were to referred by Yann Lecun (Facebook’s AI research director) as “the most interesting idea in the last 10 years in ML.” GANs’ potential is huge, because they can learn to mimic any distribution of data, which means they can be taught to create worlds similar to our own in any domain: images, music, speech, prose. They are robot artists in a sense, and their output is remarkable – poignant even. In 2018, Christie’s sold a portrait that had been generated by a GAN for $432,000. Although image generation has been challenging, GAN image generation has proved to be very successful and impressive. However, there are two remaining challenges for GAN image generation: the quality of the generated image and the training stability. This book first provides an overview of GANs, and then discusses the task of image generation and the details of GAN image generation. It also investigates a number of approaches to address the two remaining challenges for GAN image generation. Additionally, it explores three promising applications of GANs, including image-to-image translation, unsupervised domain adaptation and GANs for security. This book appeals to students and researchers who are interested in GANs, image generation and general machine learning and computer vision.

Book Synopsis Neural Networks with Model Compression by : Baochang Zhang (Professor of artificial intelligence)
Download or read book Neural Networks with Model Compression written by Baochang Zhang (Professor of artificial intelligence) and published by . This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Deep learning has achieved impressive results in image classification, computer vision and natural language processing. To achieve better performance, deeper and wider networks have been designed, which increase the demand for computational resources. The number of floating-point operations (FLOPs) has increased dramatically with larger networks, and this has become an obstacle for convolutional neural networks (CNNs) being developed for mobile and embedded devices. In this context, our book will focus on CNN compression and acceleration, which are important for the research community. We will describe numerous methods, including parameter quantization, network pruning, low-rank decomposition and knowledge distillation. More recently, to reduce the burden of handcrafted architecture design, neural architecture search (NAS) has been used to automatically build neural networks by searching over a vast architecture space. Our book will also introduce NAS due to its superiority and state-of-the-art performance in various applications, such as image classification and object detection. We also describe extensive applications of compressed deep models on image classification, speech recognition, object detection and tracking. These topics can help researchers better understand the usefulness and the potential of network compression on practical applications. Moreover, interested readers should have basic knowledge about machine learning and deep learning to better understand the methods described in this book"--
