Book Synopsis Taxonomy, Evolution and Biostratigraphy of Conodonts from the Kechika Formation, Skoki Formation, and Road River Group (Upper Cambrian to Lower Silurian), Northeastern British Columbia by : Leanne J. Pyle
Download or read book Taxonomy, Evolution and Biostratigraphy of Conodonts from the Kechika Formation, Skoki Formation, and Road River Group (Upper Cambrian to Lower Silurian), Northeastern British Columbia written by Leanne J. Pyle and published by NRC Research Press. This book was released on 2002 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conodonts, the tiny, phosphatic, tooth-like remains of an extinct group of early vertebrates, are the most important fossil group for biostratigraphy throughout their stratigraphic range from Late Cambrian to Late Triassic. This monograph represents a benchmark study of these important zonal fossils. The detailed paleontological work not only provides a taxonomic basis for future studies on early Paleozoic conodonts but also focuses on the evolution of conodonts in the early Ordovician, a time of extraordinary adaptive radiation. The taxonomic work provides detailed descriptions and illustrations of 185 species representing 69 genera. Seven new genera and 39 new species are described. The high diversity of taxa across the platform-to-basin transect shows the biogeographic differentiation and spatial ecological partitioning of conodonts through time. The taxonomy permits the refinement to the biostratigraphic zonation within two faunal realms for British Columbia that can be correlated with schemes elsewhere in North America and also internationally.

This book was released on 1991 with total page 581 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fourteen chapters discuss regional stratigraphy by time intervals from Precambrian to Quaternary, while other chapters describe the geography, geomorphology, tectonics, geophysical characteristics, and resources of the region. A summary chapter includes geologic maps, structural cross-sections, a geotectonic correlation chart, a gravity map, and a location map for exploration wells in the Arctic Islands and northern Greenland. A wealth of additional information is contained on the nine accompanying plates.
Book Synopsis The Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event by : Barry D. Webby
Download or read book The Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event written by Barry D. Webby and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2004-04-14 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two of the greatest evolutionary events in the history of life on Earth occurred during Early Paleozoic time. The first was the Cambrian explosion of skeletonized marine animals about 540 million years ago. The second was the "Great Ordovician Biodiversification Event," which is the focus of this book. During the 46-million-year Ordovician Period (489–443 m.y.), a bewildering array of adaptive radiations of "Paleozoic- and Modern-type" biotas appeared in marine habitats, the first animals (arthropods) walked on land, and the first non-vascular bryophyte-like plants (based on their cryptospore record) colonized terrestrial areas with damp environments. This book represents a compilation by a large team of Ordovician specialists from around the world, who have enthusiastically cooperated to produce this first globally orientated, internationally sponsored IGCP (International Geological Correlation Program) project on Ordovician biotas. The major part is an assembly of genus- and species-level diversity data for the many Ordovician fossil groups. The book also presents an evaluation of how each group diversified through Ordovician time, with assessments of patterns of change and rates of origination and extinction. As such, it will become the standard work and data source for biotic studies on the Ordovician Period.

Book Synopsis Protopanderodus (Conodontata) from the Ordovician Road River Group Northern Yukon Territory and the Evolution of the Genus by : Alexander D. McCracken
Download or read book Protopanderodus (Conodontata) from the Ordovician Road River Group Northern Yukon Territory and the Evolution of the Genus written by Alexander D. McCracken and published by Energy Mines and Resources Canada. This book was released on 1989 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigations of conodonts and other fossils from well exposed lower Paleozoic strata in the Cordillera of northern Yukon and western District of Mackenzie provide important information on the depositional and tectonic history of western Canada. This report presents the systematic description of 7 species of the Ordovician conodont genus Protopanderodus from carbonate beds within the predominately fine grained clastic rocks of the Road River Group. In addition, the spatial and temperal distribution of Protopanderodus was compiled to facilitate the interpretation of the paleoecology and evolution of this genus and its phylogenetic relationship with Drepanodus.

Book Synopsis The Ordovician Earth System by : Stanley Charles Finney
Download or read book The Ordovician Earth System written by Stanley Charles Finney and published by Geological Society of America. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Ordovician period is a significant chapter in Earth's history that included the great Mid-Ordovician biodiversification event, the Hirnantian glaciation, and long-term greenhouse conditions. Ordovician rocks are widespread on most continents and the recent finalization of a modern chronostratigraphic classification of the Ordovician system now facilitates high-resolution correlations that allow for integrated multidisciplinary research. The diverse papers comprising this volume address orogenesis, paleogeography, climate modeling, sedimentation, biodiversity, and isotopic excursions; together they promote an integrated view of the Ordovician earth system."--Publisher's description.
