This book was released on 1997 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Summarizes data collected at an experimental forest site near Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on which three vegetation management treatments had been applied. Two herbicides, glyphosate and hexazinone, were aerially applied to two plots; the third plot was an untreated control site. Treated and control areas were cleared of all vegetation and debris in the winter following treatment, and planted the next May with white spruce seedlings. The sites were measured 12 years after treatment to determine whether the treatments had any lasting effects on the growth and development of the planted spruce. Separate vegetation assessments were also completed to determine species diversity and percentage of cover of forage species. Management implications of the results are discussed.

This book was released on 2003 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This problem analysis summarizes the influence of range practices on water-borne disease organisms in surface water within watersheds. The summary is based on literature reviews, case histories, and interviews. Information for the literature review was obtained primarily from scientific journals, and includes reviews and original studies. The disease-causing organisms Giardia lamblia (causing giardiasis) and Cryptosporidium parvum (causing cryptosporidiosis) are emphasized because of their importance in British Columbia.

Book Synopsis Effects of Conifer Release with Herbicides on Wildlife (a Review with an Emphasis on Ontario Forests) by : R. A. Lautenschlager
Download or read book Effects of Conifer Release with Herbicides on Wildlife (a Review with an Emphasis on Ontario Forests) written by R. A. Lautenschlager and published by Sault-Ste. Marie : Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. This book was released on 1993 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper reviews studies that have examined the effects of forest herbicide treatments on wildlife in Ontario and similar northern coniferous ecosystems. Since most of the research has been short-term, valid generalizations about the effects of conifer release with herbicides on specific wildlife species or groups must be limited to 1 or 2 growing seasons after treatment. Conifer release is only one of several forest management tools designed to direct secondary succession and shape future forests. Managed forests, moreover, are only parts of larger ecosystems, which in turn are parts of the overall landscape. The effects of the composition of the landscape mosaic on resident wildlife should be considered when conifer release is discussed. In Ontario, where harvesting has reduced the coniferous component in forests and landscapes, conifer release could help restore this component and increase both forest and wildlife diversity.
