Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chubby. Curvy. Funny (and that’s it). Fat. These labels are often associated with people who don’t fit the mold of what society and social media deem visually appealing and acceptable: being thin. Through the sharing of deeply personal and life-changing moments, author and body-positivity advocate Paige Fieldsted provides a stunningly honest look at how society and the ones we love impact self-image. Not only does she dig deep into the experiences that have shaped who she is today, she proudly calls upon each person to take action and accountability for how people are treated and perceived. Confessions from Your Fat Friend doesn’t pull any punches with its honest, funny, and sometimes painful revelations. Those who deal with fluctuating weight will identify with the struggle to conform. The curvy girls in each friend group will relate to the need to shop at specialty stores so they feel more confident in their skin. Most importantly, those who feel as if they don’t belong won’t feel so alone.

Those were the days: moments of glory on the school playing field on a foggy Wednesday afternoon when the final whistle went and your school mates would gather around you, beaming their small faces at you from every conceivable direction as they congratulated you fulsomely on the 23 hat tricks you have just completed in your team’s undeniable slaughter of the opposition... Confessions of an Ageing Football Player relieves those glorious early footballing moments and takes you on a dizzying trip through the 2014 Brazil World Cup when everything was possible for whatever standard of player you thought you were. Illustrated by Paul Warren, has been drawing on an iPad since 2013. His drawing style is continually evolving and developing. He draws people, the human figure and adds a sprinkling of artistic license. He doesn’t strictly create pictures; he’s interested in facial expression, stance, form, interaction between members of society, a moment in the workaday activities. But when it comes to the journey of our story’s hero... is it Brazil’s Neymar? Or Argentina’s Messi? Or England’s Oxlade Chamberlain? Ah, dear reader, you will have to read and see to find out!

Book excerpt: I've been heavy starting in the 5th grade. Except for a brief period between 19 and 25 when I was in great shape, I've been overweight. Confessions of a Fat Guy is an autobiography of what it's like to be in a world that sees overweight people differently. They assume we're lazy, out of control, and too sensitive to a tease or a joke about fat people. I'm a big guy. By that I mean tall and big. I look like an offensive lineman in football. I'm 6'2" and have a big frame. My lowest weight as an adult was 220 pounds and I was pretty thin. I worked at a hospital and had a lot of interested nurses for dates. Mind you, none of them were interested when I was heavy, but now I could have some fun. I enjoyed being thin. But it didn't last. The weight gain started again and before long; I was back to my original weight. The teasing was rough in high school and grade school, but as an adult, it was much more painful. This is my story. I'm publishing it mainly for overweight adolescents and teenagers. The overweight adults will also benefit from it, but if we can stop it early when the child starts to gain weight, we can save them a lot of agony by helping them eat right and exercise. This will become a huge health issue in the near future. All of these obese children and adolescents will grow into adults with significant health problems like diabetes in there 20s and 30s. This book shows my path. But I think it's an important book for anyone who has struggled with weight.

Book excerpt: SHORTLISTED FOR THE TELEGRAPH RUGBY BOOK OF THE YEAR The truth about being a rugby player from the horsey's mouth. This book is not just about how a psychiatrist called Humphrey helped me get back on my horse and clippity-clop all the way to the World Cup semi-final in Japan. It's the story of how a fat kid who had to live up to the nickname Psycho grew up to play and party for over a decade with rugby's greatest pros and live weird and wonderful moments both in and out of the scrum. That's why I'm letting you read my diary on my weirdest days. You never know what you're going to get with me. From being locked in a police cell to singing Adele on Jonathan Ross (I'll let you decide which is worse), being kissed by a murderer on the number 51 bus to drug tests where clipboard-wielding men hover inches away from my naked genitalia, melting opponents in rucks, winning tackles, and generally losing blood, sweat and ears in the name of the great sport of rugby. This is how (not) to be a rugby player.

Book excerpt: Two months into the 2007 baseball season, novelist Jane Heller, an obsessed Yankee fan heartsick over their poor play, announced her intention to divorce the team, on grounds of mental cruelty, in the pages of the New York Times. Her words inflamed the passions of sports lovers across the country, and her piece quickly became the newspaper's most e-mailed and talked-about article in the week it ran. The intense reaction of fans forced Heller to look inward, and to re-examine her feelings about winning and losing. Was she a "bandwagon" fan, as some branded her? A traitor? Confessions of a She-Fan is a witty, observant, and decidedly female look at the nature of the bond between fan and team. Jane Heller goes in search of answers. With her husband as her traveling partner, she literally follows the Bronx Bombers through the rest of their challenging 2007 season, hoping to score interviews with the players, watch every game in every city, and inject some excitement into her marriage. Through interactions with other fans, as well as members of the media covering the Yankees, plus game-by-game analyses, Heller learns personal life lessons about competition, loyalty, and acceptance—and about why baseball, like any truly romantic relationship, requires commitment, patience, and a deep, abiding love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Daniell is a rubgy mercenary. A brutal word for an often brutal game. In 1996, when Rugby Union turned professional, John emigrated to France where he played for a decade in top competitions. His team ricocheted between fear and ecstasy, as they battled to save the club from relegation and their careers from the scrap heap. Now he lifts the lid on the dark world of the journeyman player, where losing a home game is considered a crime, coaches and club owners will do anything to win, and agents ruthlessly manipulate players. His compelling confessions are both shocking and funny, taking you behind the scenes, onto the field and into the very heart of the scrum.
