The words conjure up an image of Kevin Costner running through the crowd saving the distressed starlet or perhaps the 7-foot-tall bus sized guy walking with the rapper in tow. Well welcome to real life. With 15 years' experience in law enforcement, private security, and close protection, Damien Buckland gives a true account of some of the most hilarious and uplifting moments working close protection for some of the world's best loved celebrities. There are no car chases, no gun battles, no pool houses... Instead we can find out which celebs like to wear ladies' underwear, who is really losing the plot, which celebrities think they can have you wiped from the face of the earth... There is even the odd severed hand and drunk footballer to laugh about. Yes, don't worry, these celebs are named and shamed... well apart from those where there is a fear of being sued... Even then, enough clues are evident for us to figure out who they really are.

Book Synopsis Confessions of a Doorman by : Robin Barratt
Download or read book Confessions of a Doorman written by Robin Barratt and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-01-28 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following on from the success of his best selling book Doing the Doors, doorman, bodyguard, ex-mercenary and martial arts expert Robin Barratt recalls more hard-hitting stories from his frequently violent life on nightclub doors around the UK. Barratt also records a few incredible and often hilarious takes from his time as a bodyguard in France, Russia and the Ukraine. After being sent to clean up one of the most famous nightclubs in Paris, Barratt found himself 'hanging out' with a top Hollywood actor. In the Ukraine he came up against corrupt officials, and in Russia he worked alongside ex-Russian Special Forces. Confessions of a Doorman starts by chronicling his steroid related heart attack at the age of just 43. Describing a lifetime of violence, turmoil and confusion, as well as his controversial opinions on the Security Industry Authority and his thoughts on what makes a first-rate doorman, Confessions is frequently comical, often shocking, occasionally heart-warming and written with Robin's usual style of pace, humour and honesty.

Book Synopsis Hollywood and the CIA by : Oliver Boyd Barrett
Download or read book Hollywood and the CIA written by Oliver Boyd Barrett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-03-01 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates representations of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Hollywood films, and the synergies between Hollywood product, U.S. military/defense interests and U.S. foreign policy. As probably the best known of the many different intelligence agencies of the US, the CIA is an exceptionally well known national and international icon or even "brand," one that exercises a powerful influence on the imagination of people throughout the world as well as on the creative minds of filmmakers. The book examines films sampled from five decades - the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s - and explores four main issues: the relative prominence of the CIA; the extent to which these films appeared to be overtly political; the degree to which they were favorable or unfavorable to the CIA; and their relative attitude to the "business" of intelligence. A final chapter considers the question: do these Hollywood texts appear to function ideologically to "normalize" the CIA? If so, might this suggest the further hypothesis that many CIA movies assist audiences with reconciling two sometimes fundamental opposites: often gruesome covert CIA activity for questionable goals and at enormous expense, on the one hand, and the values and procedures of democratic society, on the other. This interdisciplinary book will be of much interest to students of the CIA/Intelligence Studies, media and film studies, US politics and IR/Security Studies in general.
