Celles-ci devront être multi-bandes ou large bande, mais aussi être intégrées aux systèmes radio, ce qui requiert la mise au point de structures compactes sans problèmes de compatibilité électromagnétique avec les circuits électroniques environnants.Nous avons axé notre recherche sur les antennes tridimensionnelles offrant un grand nombre de degrés de liberté, mais comportant de nombreux paramètres et se révélant complexes. Afin de mieux les appréhender, nous avons élaboré une démarche de conception de ces antennes. Nous commençons par l'étude d'une antenne canonique : un dipôle placé à proximité d'une cavité métallique rectangulaire. L'effet des différents paramètres est analysé afin de proposer une démarche de conception pour optimiser la bande passante et le rayonnement. Puis nous présentons la conception d'une antenne tridimensionnelle compacte, large bande, directive et de rayonnement stable en fréquence, l'antenne "sonde en F et triangle". Fort de l'expérience acquise sur l'antenne dipôle, nous étudions l'influence sur l'impédance des paramètres de cette antenne complexe. Ceci permet d'élaborer une méthodologie de conception simple, rapide, efficace et générale. Nous optimisons ainsi l'antenne "sonde en F et triangle" qui atteint une bande passante entre 3.1 et 6.1 GHz. Une caractérisation dans le domaine temporel est ensuite proposée afin de connaître le comportement de l'antenne dans une communication UWB. Cette thèse explicite les besoins en éléments rayonnants caractérisés ainsi que les contraintes spécifiques liées à la conception d'antennes pour ces systèmes. Un état de l'art des antennes large bande valide le choix d'une base d'étude. L'optimisation d'une antenne papillon précède la présentation d'une nouvelle structure imprimée. Cette géométrie d'antenne alimentée par guide d'onde coplanaire lui confère une adaptation d'impédance à 50 Ω, un rayonnement omnidirectionnel, ainsi qu'un encombrement et un coût limités. L'insertion d'une ouverture triangulaire ainsi que de fentes capacitives au sein du triangle rayonnant améliore l'adaptation, élargit la bande passante et réduit l'encombrement. Un second travail a consisté à obtenir un rayonnement moins directif en adoptant des formes de plans de masse latéraux appropriés. Les résultats simulés ont été validés par quatre réalisations. L'effet combiné des améliorations permet à l'antenne finale de présenter une réduction de taille de 70 % . Enfin, une antenne imprimée elliptique alimentée par CPW est étudiée et réalisée. Des mesures temporelles ont été nécessaires afin de caractériser les antennes. Le mode opératoire et les traitements appliqués sont décrits et validés. Les fonctions de transfert des antennes en émission et réception sont séparées. Leur caractérisation dans différentes directions de propagation permet de présenter les déformations subies par une impulsion référence lors de son rayonnement par les antennes. Leur dispersion a ainsi pu être comparée selon la direction et l'antenne utilisée.

Cette étude a été motivée par le souhait de regrouper l’ensemble des antennes d’observation présentes sur les satellites en un panneau rayonnant unique afin de pouvoir réduire la taille de ces derniers. Les travaux présentés dans ce mémoire sont donc principalement axés sur la conception d’antennes spirales et sur les améliorations qui peuvent leur être apportées. Ainsi, une nouvelle topologie d’antenne spirale carrée reconfigurable en un réseau de quatre antennes spirales carrées plus petites sur la même ouverture rayonnante est exposée. Cette reconfiguration permet d’augmenter l’efficacité de surface de la structure tout en offrant de nouvelles possibilités d’utilisation à l’antenne et en améliorant ses performances. Les caractéristiques et les performances des deux configurations en états figés sont détaillées. Les maquettes réalisées et les résultats de mesure sont également présentés afin de valider le fonctionnement de l’antenne. Ensuite, différentes améliorations de cette structure sont présentées ainsi qu’une application possible. Enfin, une solution permettant d’améliorer le fonctionnement des antennes spirales imprimées au-dessus d’un plan de masse est décrite. En effet, cette solution permet de supprimer un nul de rayonnement lorsque l’antenne se situe à une demi-longueur d’onde du plan de masse. Sa bande passante d’utilisation peut ainsi être potentiellement doublée sans perdre la moitié de l’énergie comme avec l’utilisation d’absorbants. Cette technique consiste à ajouter un élément rayonnant parasite au-dessus de l’antenne. Cet élément est excité par couplage à l’antenne spirale et rayonne à la fréquence du nul de rayonnement. Cet élément étant faible bande, il ne dégrade pas le fonctionnement de l’antenne aux autres fréquences de la bande passante. Une structure utilisant ce concept a été réalisée afin de valider son fonctionnement.
