De plus, l'édentement est souvent perçu comme un déficit socio-professionnel majeur pouvant conduire vers un état de replis sur soi. La réalisation d'une prothèse complète immédiate permet non seulement de compenser un édentement futur, mais aussi de ne pas laisser le patient sans dents durant les différentes étapes prothétiques. Cependant, la conservation du bloc incisivo-canin rend difficile la conduite d'un essayage esthétique conventionnel et ne permet donc pas au patient de visualiser le projet esthétique dans son ensemble. La littérature scientifique propose plusieurs techniques ayant pour but de contourner cet obstacle. Ces techniques peuvent être directes ou indirectes, mutilantes ou ménageant le tissu dentaire. Le choix de celles-ci doit s'appliquer selon le cas, ainsi l'tat général du patient, la valeur des dents résiduelles ou le degré d'exigence du candidat sont autant de paramètres à prendre en compte dans la sélection d'une technique de prévisibilité esthétique.
