Book excerpt: Comprehensive Textbook of Clinical Radiology is a fully integrated illustrated textbook of radiology to cater for residents and practising radiologists. It is a one-stop solution for all academic needs in radiology. It helps radiologists as a single reference book to gain complete knowledge instead of referring to multiple resources. More than 500 authors, recognized experts in their subspeciality, have contributed to this book. To meet the expectations of clinical radiologists, thorough clinical expertise and familiarity with all the imaging modalities appropriate to address their clinical questions are necessary, regardless of one's favoured subspeciality. To keep the content relevant to them, we have tried to stay upgraded to their level. This book comprises six volumes, which gives information on Radiological Anatomy, Embryology, Nomogram, Normal Variants, Physics, Imaging Techniques, and all the aspects of Diagnostic Radiology including Neuroradiology, Head and Neck, Chest and CVS, Abdomen, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Breast, Musculoskeletal and Multisystem Disorders & related Interventional techniques. It will serve as a primary reference for residents and subspeciality trainees and fellows to facilitate their learning in preparation for their examination, and also the consultant radiologists in their daily clinical practice. This volume is subdivided into three sections. Section 1 covers the principles of clinical radiology and deals with basic to advanced aspects of general radiology. The physics of each imaging modality is described in detail for radiology residents. Principles of pathology, genetics and statistics important for radiologists from research point of view are enumerated. Basic principles of medicine including management of contrast reactions, basic and advanced life support which are important for radiologists in day to day practice are dealt in dedicated chapter. Section 2 covers the multisystem disorders that affect multiple body systems either at the same time or over a period of time. Imaging plays a vital role in identifying the extent of systems involved and also in diagnosis by recognising the pattern of systems involved. The last part of the section deals with the general principles of oncoimaging dealing with multisystem involvement and facilitates easier understanding of this complex subject. The format is ideal for both in-depth knowledge and daily reference. Section 3 covers head and neck imaging, anatomy of neck, techniques of imaging and paediatric neck. In addition, all neck spaces and lymph nodes are discussed with anatomy and pathology with high-quality images and line diagrams. Orbits, temporal bone, sinuses and skull base are included with discussion on imaging anatomy, variants and pathologies. Cancer imaging, PETCT and post-operative imaging are fully discussed along with TNM imaging. Unique chapters on Sleep apnea, Emergency Radiology, Dental imaging, Superficial and trans-spatial lesions and Imaging of all cranial nerves are included.

The gold standard in imaging, Merrill's Atlas covers all procedures in the ASRT radiography curriculum and prepares you for the ARRT exam. - NEW! Respiration heading emphasizes the importance of proper breathing instructions for maximizing image quality. - NEW! Patient positioning photos enhance chapters on the chest, abdomen, pelvis and hip, bony thorax, upper extremity, and lower extremity. - NEW and UPDATED! Additional figures and content in special imaging modality chapters represent current practice, protocols, safety measures, and technology in pediatric imaging, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, diagnostic medical sonography, mammography, molecular imaging, nuclear medicine, and radiation oncology. - UPDATED! Unit values expressed as SI units, with traditional units provided in parentheses, match the format used in imaging technical texts and the ARRT exam. - UPDATED! Gonadal shielding guidelines align with current clinical practice. - UPDATED! Collimation field sizes and image receptor sizes are simplified for enhanced clinical relevance. - STREAMLINED! Rounded decimal values replace fractions throughout the text. - Comprehensive, full-color coverage of anatomy and positioning makes Merrill's Atlas the most in-depth text and reference available for radiography students and practitioners. - Guidelines to each projection include a photograph of a properly positioned patient and information on patient position, part position, respiration, central ray angulation, collimation, kVp values, structures shown, and evaluation criteria. - Diagnostic-quality radiograph for each projection demonstrates the result the radiographer is trying to achieve. - Coverage of common and unique positioning procedures includes chapters on trauma, mobile, surgical radiography, geriatrics, and pediatrics to help prepare you for the full scope of situations you will encounter. - Numerous CT and MRI images enhance comprehension of cross-sectional anatomy and help in preparing for the Registry examination.

Book excerpt: This book addresses all pain imaging aspects related to both the central nervous system and the body (thorax, abdomen and pelvis), thus updating the international literature on the topic. By adopting a clinical-radiological approach and offering a comprehensive differential diagnosis for a number of painful syndromes (many of which can mimic one other), the work aims to support and enhance the diagnostic management of these patients, suggesting the most appropriate diagnostic algorithm. The book is divided into separate sections for each anatomical macro-area, and the chapters cover the respective topics from both clinical and radiological perspectives. Further, the book includes extensive electronic supplementary material. As such, it offers an invaluable tool for radiologists, neuroradiologists and clinicians working in internal medicine, surgery and neurology, and could also be used in residency programs for these groups.

Book excerpt: Diseases of the Sinuses: A Comprehensive Textbook of Diagnosis and Treatment, 2nd Edition, offers the definitive source of information about the basic science of the sinuses and the clinical approach to sinusitis. Since the widely praised publication of the first edition, understanding of sinus disease has changed dramatically, mainly as a result of recent developments and new discoveries in the field of immunology. This updated and expanded edition is divided into sections addressing, separately, the pathogenesis, clinical presentation, medical and surgical management of acute and chronic rhinosinusitis. Special entities such as autoimmune-related sinusitis, allergy and sinusitis, and aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease are discussed in separate chapters. The role of immunodeficiency is also addressed. The management section has been fully updated to incorporate new medical modalities and surgical procedures. Developed by a distinguished group of international experts who share their expertise and insights from years of collective experience in treating sinus diseases, the book will appeal to anyone who has an interest in sinus disease, including both physicians and allied health professionals. Internists, pediatricians, allergists, otolaryngologists and infectious disease specialists will find the book to be an invaluable, comprehensive reference. Physician assistants and nurse practitioners who work with specialists who treat sinus disease will also benefit from the book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In November 1986, I was invited to attend a symposium held in Barcelona on Diseases of the Pericardium. The course was directed by Dr. J. Soler-Soler, director of Cardiology at Hospital General Vall d'Hebron in Barcelona. During my brief but delightful visit to this institution, my appreciation of the depth and breadth of study into pericardial diseases, carried out by Dr. Soler and his group, grew into the conviction that these clinical investigators have accumulated a wealth of information concerning pericardial diseases, and that investigators and clinicians practicing in English speaking countries would greatly profit from ready access to the results of the clinical investiga tions into pericardial disease carried out in Barcelona. The proceedings of the Barcelona conference were published in a beauti fully executed volume in the Spanish language edited by Dr. Soler and pro duced by Ediciones Doyma. Because I believe that this work should be brought to the attention of the English speaking scientific and clinical com munities, I encouraged Dr. Soler to have the book translated into English. I knew that this task could be accomplished and that the book would be trans lated into good English without change of its content. My confidence was based upon a translation of my own book, The Pericardium, into Spanish undertaken by Dr. Permanyer, who is a contributor and co-editor of the pre sent volume.
