Book Synopsis Print Journalism by : Charanjit Ahuja
Download or read book Print Journalism written by Charanjit Ahuja and published by Partridge Publishing. This book was released on 2016-03-17 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the world of journalism! There are not many books that can serve as useful guides to the students of journalism and more so for students of print journalism. In fact, as one involved in teaching of journalism alongside working as a full-time journalist, we felt that teaching at journalism schools was completely bereft of practise and there was more emphasis on theoretical part. It is this lacuna that two of us with experience of working with national dailies have tried to fill. This book is a complete book of print journalism as authors have devoted special chapters on print journalism, what news is, news reporting, feature and middle writing, writing of headlines and intros, inverted-pyramid style of writing, developmental journalism, investigative journalism, business journalism, glossary of newspaper terms, press laws and self-regulation, structure and departments of a newspaper, and yoga and spirituality for more positivity in mass media. Written in an easy-to-understand manner, this book can do wonders for you and would be your companion for years to come. All the best! —Charanjit Ahuja and Bharat Hiteshi

Download or read book The Complete Idiot's Guide to Journalism written by Christopher K. Passante and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2007 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Never has the world of journalism been so explosive, so global, and so competitive. Forget hourly news flashes; we live in a world of 24-hour breaking news with radio and TV stations and Internet sites updating stories by the minute and newspapers adjusting to stay fresh, in-depth, and relevant. While the number of newspapers and TV and radio stations has dropped over the last half century in the United States, instant, free-access Internet news portals have grown precipitously to not only fill any gaps in coverage but to force Big Media to change its game plans or risk losing readership. But in no way does this suggest any aspect of journalism is heading for the garbage heap-especially newspapers. Never before have Americans been so engaged in their world, and many mediums are needed to satiate that collective appetite for knowledge.

Book Synopsis Journalism History and Digital Archives by : Henrik Bødker
Download or read book Journalism History and Digital Archives written by Henrik Bødker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-12-17 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book showcases various ways in which digital archives allow for new approaches to journalism history. The chapters in this book were selected based on three overall objectives: 1) research that highlights specific concerns within journalism history through digital archives; 2) discussions of digital methodologies, as well as specific applications, that are accessible for journalism scholars with no prior experiences with such approaches; and 3) that journalism history and digital archives are connected in other ways than through specific methods, i.e., that the connection raises larger questions of historiography and power. The contributions address cases and developments in Asia, South and North America and Europe; and range from long-range, big-data, machine-leaning and topic modelling studies of journalistic characteristics and meta-journalistic discourses to critiques of archival practices and access in relation to gender, social movements and poverty. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Digital Journalism.

Book Synopsis Power and Loss in South African Journalism by : Glenda Daniels
Download or read book Power and Loss in South African Journalism written by Glenda Daniels and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2020-07-01 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely collection of essays analyses the crisis of journalism in contemporary South Africa at a period when the media and their role are frequently at the centre of public debate. The transition to digital news has been messy, random and unpredictable. The spread of news via social media platforms has given rise to political propaganda, fake news and a flattening of news to banality and gossip. Media companies, however, continue to shrink newsrooms, ousting experienced journalists in favour of 'content producers'. Against this backdrop, Daniels points out the contribution of investigative journalists to exposing corruption and sees new opportunities emerging to forge a model for the future of non-profit, public-funded journalism. Engaging and dynamic, the book argues for the power of public interest journalism, including investigative journalism, and a diversity of voices and positions to be reflected in the news. It addresses the gains and losses from decolonial and feminist perspectives and advocates for a radical shift in the way power is constituted by the media in the South African postcolony. A valuable introduction to the confusion that confronts journalism students, it has much to offer practising media professionals. Daniels uses her years of experience as a newspaper journalist to write with authority and illuminate complex issues about newsroom politics. Interviews with alienated media professionals and a semi-autobiographical lens add a personal element that will appeal to readers interested in the inner life of the media.

Book excerpt: The Routledge Companion to Digital Journalism Studies offers an unprecedented collection of essays addressing the key issues and debates shaping the field of Digital Journalism Studies today. Across the last decade, journalism has undergone many changes, which have driven scholars to reassess its most fundamental questions, and in the face of digital change, to ask again: ‘Who is a journalist?’ and ‘What is journalism?’. This companion explores a developing scholarly agenda committed to understanding digital journalism and brings together the work of key scholars seeking to address key theoretical concerns and solve unique methodological riddles. Compiled of 58 original essays from distinguished academics across the globe, this Companion draws together the work of those making sense of this fundamental reconceptualization of journalism, and assesses its impacts on journalism’s products, its practices, resources, and its relationship with audiences. It also outlines the challenge presented by studying digital journalism and, more importantly, offers a first set of answers. This collection is the very first of its kind to attempt to distinguish this emerging field as a unique area of academic inquiry. Through identifying its core questions and presenting its fundamental debates, this Companion sets the agenda for years to come in defining this new field of study as Digital Journalism Studies, making it an essential point of reference for students and scholars of journalism.
