Book Synopsis Compensatory Trade Strategy by : John I Akhile
Download or read book Compensatory Trade Strategy written by John I Akhile and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-02 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is only one reason why writing a book on this subject matter is relevant to our times. And it is due to the fact that African nations, like most developing countries, need a new approach to issues relating to the challenge of creating sustained economic development. Compensatory Trade Strategy represents a multiple options plan for establishing and implementing trade arrangements in developing countries, particularly in times of hard currency shortage. Author John Akhile brings twenty-five years of experience on the conduct and finance of international trade, specifically on sub-Saharan Africa, and offers a new look at this global crisis. With his comprehensive approach, Akhile creates a basic plan for those interested in compensatory trade. For developing countries, Akhile presents strategies for creating new industrial development projects and for arranging trade transactions for critical supplies. For companies who are seeking to continue and even expand existing opportunities, Compensatory Trade Strategy is a road map for achieving both objectives.

Download or read book A Practical Guide to Trade Policy Analysis written by Marc Bacchetta and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Trade flows and trade policies need to be properly quantified to describe, compare, or follow the evolution of policies between sectors or countries or over time. This is essential to ensure that policy choices are made with an appropriate knowledge of the real conditions. This practical guide introduces the main techniques of trade and trade policy data analysis. It shows how to develop the main indexes used to analyze trade flows, tariff structures, and non-tariff measures. It presents the databases needed to construct these indexes as well as the challenges faced in collecting and processing these data, such as measurement errors or aggregation bias. Written by experts with practical experience in the field, A Practical Guide to Trade Policy Analysis has been developed to contribute to enhance developing countries' capacity to analyze and implement trade policy. It offers a hands-on introduction on how to estimate the distributional effects of trade policies on welfare, in particular on inequality and poverty. The guide is aimed at government experts engaged in trade negotiations, as well as students and researchers involved in trade-related study or research. An accompanying DVD contains data sets and program command files required for the exercises. Copublished by the WTO and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development

And remember... bank CD's will only pay you between 0% and 1%... the dividend yield on the S&P 500 is around 2%... and 5 to 10 year municipal bonds will only pay between 2% and 3%. But if you use what's inside this book, you could have the opportunity to get much more than that. For instance... if you put together a portfolio of three of the best covered call stocks... you could see an average yield of 15% per year... just from your covered call income. All this from your regular brokerage account, just as easily as you can buy stock. Because if you know how to buy stocks, you can use covered calls. And when you receive just a single premium from one of these covered calls (which is paid into your account instantly) it will cover the cost of this book 10x over. Book Synopsis Tariff Retaliation Versus Financial Compensation in the Enforcement of International Trade Agreements by : Nuno Limão
Download or read book Tariff Retaliation Versus Financial Compensation in the Enforcement of International Trade Agreements written by Nuno Limão and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2006 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The authors analyze whether financial compensation is preferable to the current system of dispute settlement in the World Trade Organization that permits member countries to impose retaliatory tariffs in response to trade violations committed by other members. They show that monetary fines are more efficient than tariffs in terms of granting compensation to injured parties when there are violations in equilibrium. However, fines suffer from an enforcement problem since they must be paid by the violating country. If fines must ultimately be supported by the threat of retaliatory tariffs, they fail to yield a more cooperative outcome than the current system. The authors also consider the use of bonds as a means of settling disputes. If bonds can be posted with a third party, they do not have to be supported by retaliatory tariffs and can improve the negotiating position of countries that are too small to threaten tariff retaliation. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does Japan, with its efficiency-oriented technocracy, periodically adopt welfare-oriented, economically inefficient domestic policies? In answering this question Kent Calder shows that Japanese policymakers respond to threats to the ruling party's preeminence by extending income compensation, entitlements, and subsidies, with market-oriented retrenchment coming as crisis subsides. [Forces] readers' attention to the domestic underpinnings of Japanese foreign policy."--Donald S. Zagoria, Foreign Affairs "Punctures the myth of Japan Inc. as a cool, rational monolith...."--Kathleen Newland, Millennium "A bold reinterpretation of Japanese politics that will force us to rethink many of our current assumptions and will influence our research agenda."--Steven R.
