Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Business of Healthcare Innovation is the first wide-ranging analysis of business trends in the manufacturing segment of the health care industry. In this leading edge volume, Professor Burns focuses on the key role of the 'producers' as the main source of innovation in health systems. Written by professors of the Wharton School and industry executives, this book provides a detailed overview of the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, genomics/proteomics, medical device and information technology sectors. It analyses the market structures of these sectors as well as the business models and corporate strategies of firms operating within them. Most importantly, the book describes the growing convergence between these sectors and the need for executives in one sector to increasingly draw upon trends in the others. It will be essential reading for students and researchers in the field of health management, and of great interest to strategy scholars, industry practitioners and management consultants.

Book Synopsis New Insights and Controversies in Diagnosis and Treatment of Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency by : Antonio Mancini
Download or read book New Insights and Controversies in Diagnosis and Treatment of Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency written by Antonio Mancini and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-06-19 with total page 123 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adult growth hormone deficiency (aGHD) is the clinical expression of a reduced GH secretion caused by congenital or acquired diseases affecting the hypothalamus-pituitary axis. Once considered a rare clinical disorder, its prevalence is apparently increasing. Nevertheless, due to the subtle clinical manifestations, aGHD could be still underestimated. Thirty years of experience with recombinant GH (rh-GH) clearly indicate the beneficial effects of replacement therapy with amelioration of metabolic and inflammatory parameters, body composition, endothelial function, quality of life, and reduction of cardiovascular risk. Furthermore, the world of GH and aGHD is rapidly enriching: new information on GH physiology, regarding its metabolic role and pleiotropic activities, is spreading, thus even making inappropriate the same name of “growth hormone”. The definition of “functional” and “partial” aGHD is still unclear and debated, although data about partially impaired GH secretion showed alteration of some metabolic and clinical parameters associated with cardiovascular risk. Current guidelines about GHD diagnosis and treatment have been elaborated, but many questions remain debated. New tests for diagnosis have recently been proposed, and non-conventional indications for diagnosis and treatment deserve further investigations. Controlled trials on the beneficial effects on morbidity and mortality are still lacking and new formulations of GH are under investigation. Several questions are related to the age of affected patients (from transition age to ageing) and no indications are available on how long the therapy should be considered. Other concerns are related to a possible pro-oncogenic effect, especially in patients who develop the deficiency after a removal of a hypothalamic-pituitary tumor. The interrelations with other pituitary axes need further clarification since isolate GHD and multiple pituitary deficiencies may have a different spectrum of manifestation. The aim of this Research Topic is to furnish deeper insight to questions related to aGHD: from molecular pathways involved in the pathophysiology to diagnostic tools and replacement therapy.

Book Synopsis Implementing CDISC Using SAS by : Chris Holland
Download or read book Implementing CDISC Using SAS written by Chris Holland and published by SAS Institute. This book was released on 2019-05-30 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For decades researchers and programmers have used SAS to analyze, summarize, and report clinical trial data. Now Chris Holland and Jack Shostak have updated their popular Implementing CDISC Using SAS, the first comprehensive book on applying clinical research data and metadata to the Clinical Data Interchange Standards Consortium (CDISC) standards. Implementing CDISC Using SAS: An End-to-End Guide, Revised Second Edition, is an all-inclusive guide on how to implement and analyze the Study Data Tabulation Model (SDTM) and the Analysis Data Model (ADaM) data and prepare clinical trial data for regulatory submission. Updated to reflect the 2017 FDA mandate for adherence to CDISC standards, this new edition covers creating and using metadata, developing conversion specifications, implementing and validating SDTM and ADaM data, determining solutions for legacy data conversions, and preparing data for regulatory submission. The book covers products such as Base SAS, SAS Clinical Data Integration, and the SAS Clinical Standards Toolkit, as well as JMP Clinical. Topics included in this edition include an implementation of the Define-XML 2.0 standard, new SDTM domains, validation with Pinnacle 21 software, event narratives in JMP Clinical, STDM and ADAM metadata spreadsheets, and of course new versions of SAS and JMP software. The second edition was revised to add the latest C-Codes from the most recent release as well as update the make_define macro that accompanies this book in order to add the capability to handle C-Codes. The metadata spreadsheets were updated accordingly. Any manager or user of clinical trial data in this day and age is likely to benefit from knowing how to either put data into a CDISC standard or analyzing and finding data once it is in a CDISC format. If you are one such person--a data manager, clinical and/or statistical programmer, biostatistician, or even a clinician--then this book is for you.

Book Synopsis Targeted Intracellular Drug Delivery by Receptor Mediated Endocytosis by : Padma V. Devarajan
Download or read book Targeted Intracellular Drug Delivery by Receptor Mediated Endocytosis written by Padma V. Devarajan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-09 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book elaborates on drug delivery targeting via intracellular delivery, specifically through the Receptor Mediated Endocytosis (RME) approach, due to the involvement of cellular receptors in various grave diseases. Targeted delivery relies on two basic approaches, passive and active targeting. While passive targeting approaches have shown great promise, the improved selectivity achieved with active targeting approaches has resulted in significantly higher efficacy. Interestingly there are numerous strategies for active targeting, many of which are already highlighted in , Targeted Drug Delivery: Concepts and Applications. Nevertheless an exciting and practical strategy for active targeting, which could enable high intracellular delivery, is through exploitation of RME. Cells in the body express receptors to enable various physiological and biochemical processes. As a result, many of these receptors are overexpressed in pathological conditions, or newer receptors expressed due to defective cellular functioning. RME is based on exploitation of such receptors to achieve intracellular delivery. While targeted delivery can have manifold applications, in this book we focus on two major and challenging therapeutic areas; i) Cancer and ii) Infectious Diseases. Targeted Intracellular Drug Delivery by Receptor Medicated Endocytosis discusses the major receptors that are useful for targeted delivery for these afflictions. A major section of this book is dedicated to details regarding their occurrence and location, the recognition domain of the receptor, structure activity relationship of substrate /ligand for selective binding, ligands explored, antagonists for ligand binding and relevance of these aspects for therapy of cancer and infectious diseases. These facets are elucidated with the help of specific examples from academic research and also emphasize commercial products, wherever relevant. In vitro cellular models relied on for assessing receptor mediated cellular targeting and in vivo models depicting clinical efficacy are focused on in a separate section. Finally, we briefly discuss the regulatory and toxicity issues that may be associated specifically with the RME approach of intracellular drug delivery.
