Book excerpt: The official novel of the bestselling real-time strategy franchise • In the twenty-first century, Earth is infested with Tiberium, an alien substance that could be humanity’s salvation . . . or its downfall. Though Tiberium is a resource that could solve the world’s energy crisis, it is also incredibly destructive, spreading disease, death, and devastation. Tiberium has divided the planet into two factions: the Global Defense Initiative (GDI), which tries to maintain order at any cost, and the Brotherhood of Nod, a terrorist organization turned superpower that believes with religious fervor in the potential of Tiberium. The groups have already fought two world wars, killing millions. Now, in the year 2047, a vicious Nod attack compels GDI to mobilize. Another epic global war is being waged, with humanity’s fate in the balance. One of GDI’s top units, the 22nd Infantry Division, must halt Nod’s agenda and keep the world from devolving into further chaos and loss of life. But in the midst of heavy fighting all over the world, mysterious visitors arrive . . . who may spell doom for the human race.

Book Synopsis IPHA - An Open Source Framework for Development of Strategy Games Based on Microsoft Technology by : Jacob Barkai
Download or read book IPHA - An Open Source Framework for Development of Strategy Games Based on Microsoft Technology written by Jacob Barkai and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2009 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Professorial Dissertation from the year 2009 in the subject Computer Science - Theory, grade: 90, Tel-Hai Academic College, language: English, abstract: Strategy computer games are nowadays a very popular and exciting genre in the world of computer games. Many succeeding commercial games were developed since the end 1980's and contributed to the growth and interest in computer games in general and strategy games in particular. Games such as Command & Conquer(TM) series (by Westwood and EA Studios), Civilization(TM) series (by Sid Meier), Warcraft(TM) and StarCraft(TM) series (by Blizzard) entered to the computer games' hall of fame, thanks to their inventiveness, artificial intelligence challenge and visual effects that they offer. Almost every strategy computer game was based on the idea of an "electronic board game", a modern brother to the classic, "physical" board games such as chess, checkers, backgammon, hexxagon and more. An interesting issue is the fact that both the classic board games and the modern strategy computer games are sharing many of the key elements that make the players think and act strategically and tactically, according to the development of the game. This issue is the basis for the project, and discussed further in the next pages. It is common to divide strategy games into two main types: "Abstract strategy", where there is "perfect information" regard to the game's state. An example for an "Abstract strategy" is Chess. The other type is "Concrete strategy" where there is "incomplete information" regard to the game's state. This characteristic makes the game more interesting and surprising. An example for such a game is "Stratego". This project aims to serve as an open source code framework, written under Microsoft .NET, for easy creation and expansion of "abstract strategy" games by providing operational artificial intelligence algorithms and well-defined class libraries based on concepts taken from "the game theory" for decision making aspe

Book Synopsis Skies to Conquer by : Diana Jean Schemo
Download or read book Skies to Conquer written by Diana Jean Schemo and published by Turner Publishing Company. This book was released on 2010-03-26 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A former New York Times reporter's year behind the scenes at the scandal-ridden Air Force Academy Diana Jean Schemo covered the Air Force Academy's sexual assault scandal in 2003, one of a series of academy embarrassments that have included drug use, rape complaints, and charges of evangelical officers pushing Christianity on cadets of all faiths. Today, the institution is in flux—a fascinating time to look at the changes being made and the experience of today's cadets. Schemo followed a handful of academy cadets through the school year. From the admissions process and punishing weeks of basic training to graduation, she shares the triumphs and tribulations of the cadets and the struggle of the academy's leaders to set their embattled alma mater on a straighter path. Follows cadets in all grades, with insights on day-to-day academy life and training Written by a veteran reporter, two-time foreign correspondent and Pulitzer Prize nominee, with excellent contacts at the academy Includes 38 black-and-white photographs Like David Lipsky's successful Absolutely American: Four Years at West Point, this book offers a fascinating window on the training of our military today. But Schemo's book updates the story: the seniors were the first class to sign up after the attacks of 9/11, and the road to graduation, this time, leads to an America at war.
