Book excerpt: The book consists of a collection of twelve delightful animal tales to entertain your children while they discover the habitat of each animal. Each animal has been researched to give the children the opportunity to learn about the animal while enjoying the tale. This book will teach your child not only the habitat of the animal but each story has an underlying message as well. 'The Ant Tale' is a story of a 'daydreaming ant's' adventures which takes the reader through the different areas in an anthill and surroundings. It reveals how ants survive and live, all told through the story. It teaches children to do their bit in life as well. ‘A Monkey’s Tale’ tells about a chimp who is unhappy about his looks and how he uses that ‘ugly’ tail to become a hero. Every tale has a little message on it’s own. Each story is told in such a way that the children subconsciously learn the facts while they enjoy the story itself. The animals range from the tiny ant that enjoys inventions, a grumpy ‘giggling’ hyena, an overweight elephant who is unhappy about her size, a lazy giraffe and many more. This personalised book twins as a colour in book. Once the story is read, the illustrations can be coloured in for many hours of fun. The complete book is threefold. First it will entertain your children for hours, they learn about animals and their habitat and finally they are able to illustrate the stories to give it their personal touch.

Book excerpt: By using principles from a variety of scientific disciplines, Yale Professor Samuel Wilkinson provides a framework for human evolution that reveals an overarching purpose to our existence. Generations have been taught that evolution implies there is no overarching purpose to our existence, that life has no fundamental meaning. We are merely the accumulation of tens of thousands of intricate molecular accidents. Some scientists take this logic one step further, suggesting that evolution is intrinsically atheistic and goes against the concept of God. But is this true? By integrating emerging principles from a variety of scientific disciplines—ranging from evolutionary biology to psychology—Yale Professor Samuel Wilkinson provides a framework of evolution that implies not only that there is an overarching purpose to our existence, but what this purpose is. With respect to our evolution, nature seems to have endowed us with competing dispositions, what Wilkinson calls the dual potential of human nature. We are pulled in different directions: selfishness and altruism, aggression and cooperation, lust and love. When we couple this with the observation that we possess a measure of free will, all this strongly implies there is a universal purpose to our existence. This purpose, at least one of them, is to choose between the good and evil impulses that nature has created within us. Our life is a test. This is a truth, as old as history it seems, that has been espoused by so many of the world’s religions. From a certain framework, these aspects of human nature—including how evolution shaped us—are evidence for the existence of a God, not against it. Closely related to this is meaning. What is the meaning of life? Based on the scientific data, it would seem that one such meaning is to develop deep and abiding relationships. At least that is what most people report are the most meaningful aspects of their lives. This is a function of our evolution. It is how we were created.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As entertainment becomes a trillion-dollar-a-year industry worldwide, as our modern era increasingly lives up to its label of the "entertainment age," and as economists begin to recognize that entertainment has become the driving force of the new world economy, it is safe to say that scholars are beginning to take entertainment seriously. The scholarly spin on entertainment has been manifested in traditional ways, as well as innovative ones. Representing the current state of theory and research, Psychology of Entertainment promises to be the most comprehensive and up-to-date volume on entertainment. It serves to define the new area of study and provides a theoretical spin for future work in the area. Divided into three basic parts, this book: *addresses the fundamental mechanisms and processes involved in orienting to and selecting entertainment fare, as well as receiving and processing it; *explores the mechanisms and processes by which we are entertained by the media messages we select and receive; and *provides an opportunity for the application of well-established as well as emerging psychological and psychobiological theories to be applied to the study of entertainment in ways that seldom have been utilized previously. Psychology of Entertainment will appeal to scholars, researchers, and graduate students in media studies and mass communication, psychology, marketing, and other areas contributing to the entertainment studies area.
