Over and against this state of affairs, Collectivity in Struggle revisits a crucial moment in recent history when the formation of collectivity sat at the heart of a radical emancipatory struggle and called for a creative endeavor, both artistic and political. The book examines two projects developed in the 1970s vis-à-vis the Palestinian revolt: Jean-Luc Godard's cinematic engagement with the Palestinian forces and Jean Genet's textual enterprise alongside them. Through an inverse reading that uncovers from the seemingly discrete and finalized artworks - Godard's film or Genet’s book - the process of their becoming, Shaul Setter explores the ways in which these projects portray and conceptualize the revolutionary stage of the Palestinian revolt, its abrupt end, and two different modes of prolonging it. Concentrating on their formal experimentation, their potentiality for collective enunciation, their conflicted positioning on the threshold of colonial European culture and the hidden Semitic languages inscribed in them - Setter claims that these two projects insist on the writerly aspects of revolutionary political action.

In Making Worlds, Claudia Breger argues that contemporary European cinema provides ways of thinking about and feeling collectivity that can challenge these political trends. Breger offers nuanced readings of major contemporary films such as Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Biutiful, Fatih Akın’s The Edge of Heaven, Asghar Farhadi’s A Separation, and Aki Kaurismäki’s refugee trilogy, as well as works by Jean-Luc Godard and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Through a new model of cinematic worldmaking, Breger examines the ways in which these works produce unexpected and destabilizing affects that invite viewers to imagine new connections among individuals or groups. These films and their depictions of refugees, immigrants, and communities do not simply counter dominant political imaginaries of hate and fear with calls for empathy or solidarity. But at controls level, unsustainability afflicts China and an age-old “identity clamp” is failing India. Both nations will see reversals in near future. China must realize that “economic future” is a component of “political future”; not the other way round. India must understand that democracy divorced from political creativity leads back to tyranny and anarchy. The basis of the entire debate is “Integration Energy Theory” which explains the reality of human togetherness in a timeless and non-spatial manner.
