Download or read book Coco's Secret written by Niamh Greene and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Niamh Greene's new novel Coco's Secret is a deeply moving reinvention story that will be enjoyed by fans of the modern day fairytales of Cecelia Ahern. Throw in Niamh's unique brand of heart-warming storytelling and readers are in for a real treat. Coco Swan has always been embarrassed by her name. With a name like Coco, she thinks people expect her to be as exotic and glamorous as the famous designer, not an ordinary-looking small-town antiques dealer who could win an award for living cautiously. But when a vintage Chanel handbag turns up in a box of worthless bric-a-brac, Coco's quiet world is turned upside down. Where did it come from? And is it just coincidence that it's the same bag Coco's late mother always wanted for her? When Coco discovers a mysterious, decades-old letter hidden in the bag's lining, she sets off on a quest to piece together the story behind it, stumbling across secrets that span three generations as she goes. Could the beautiful Chanel bag be about to teach Coco more than she wants to learn? Or will it show her just where her heart can take her if she lets it lead the way? Coco's Secret is a gripping and thoroughly satisfying story about a young women finally finding courage to become the kind of woman she always had it in her to be. It will go straight to readers' hearts just like her previous bestselling novels, including the bestselling and award-nominated Secret Diary of a Demented Housewife. Her other novels are Confessions of a Demented Housewife, Lessons from a Love Rat, Rules for a Perfect Life and A Message to Your Heart.

Book Synopsis Coco Through the Looking Glass by : Marie-Claire Patron
Download or read book Coco Through the Looking Glass written by Marie-Claire Patron and published by Balboa Press. This book was released on 2018-04-14 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coco is a vivacious and enthusiastic romantic on a determined search for the one true love of her life. At about two times the age of a regular princess (or even more), she fearlessly pursues her fairy-tale ending by embracing the paradoxes and age-defying opportunities offered by the modern age. Bolstered by the notions that fifty is the new forty and divorced is the new single, she ventures into the medium of the internet, a space where all things old are excitingly renewed to search for the one. The fairyland of online dating proves to be populated by characters very much akin to those found in fairy tales of old. There are some trolls and other downright dastardly types and others of beastly appearance who turn out to be kindly. There are also some wily witches who try to trap and ensnare. Fortunately, the fairy godmothers (BFFs) mentored Coco through the Black Forest. So will she find the dashing Prince Charming and live happily ever after? Read on and see!

Book Synopsis Sailing by Starlight by : Alex Capus
Download or read book Sailing by Starlight written by Alex Capus and published by Haus Publishing. This book was released on 2013-09-10 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Capus takes us on an exploratory journey via the loss of a Spanish vessel laden with gold and jewels in the South Seas, the burial of treasure, an ancient map, and a long and dangerous voyage across the Pacific, to prove that Robert Louis Stevenson's "treasure island" actually exists; and that it exists in a place quite different from where hordes of treasure-hunters have been seeking it for generations. In fact, he posits, it was for this reason alone that Stevenson spent the last five years of his life in Samoa. On a long trip round the Pacific islands with the idea of writing articles for American periodicals, Stevenson, travelling with his beloved wife, Fanny, and stepson Lloyd Osbourne, had no notion of stopping at Samoa when their ship made landfall in December 1889. Yet, only six weeks later, at the age of 39, he would invest all his available assets in a patch of impenetrable jungle and spend the rest of his life there. This book traces what led Stevenson to Samoa and the origins of his famous story. For facing him from this unlikely spot was another island – a conical isle, Tafahi, where legends abound, and it was, Capus suggests, this isle that would cause him to change the course of his life.

Book Synopsis The Insane Chicago Way by : John Hagedorn
Download or read book The Insane Chicago Way written by John Hagedorn and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2015-08-19 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Police, the press, and the public all see the kind of violence that besets the inner city today as irrational and basically about turf, revenge, or drugs. Renowned criminologist and expert on gangs, John Hagedorn here tells a very different and little-known story centered on the dramatic rise and fall of a Mafia-like Latino organization in Chicago called "Spanish Growth & Development." Hagedorn's main informant is 'Sal Martino, ' an Italian Mafioso who became intimately involved with the "In$ane Family," one of the factions of Spanish Growth & Development. Through Sal's first-hand account, Hagedorn shows that the violence was not a result of "disorganized crime" but rather the outcome of SGD's prolonged demise. He gives us for the first time a detailed the history of SGD-the reasons for its creation, the uneasy alliances between gang families, the organization's reliance on bottom-up police corruption, and its ultimate collapse in a pool of blood at a 1999 "peace" conference. Revealing the hidden and riveting stories of Chicago gangs' efforts to build structures ostensibly to reduce violence and to organize crime, of the integration of gang and mafia history, and of the central role of police corruption in Chicago's gangland, "The In$ane Chicago Way" makes a powerful argument for the need to regard corruption as the bedrock of gang power. It dispels the notion that gang violence can be explained solely by ecological, neighborhood-based processes and sheds light on the current gang situation in Chicago by laying bare its history while raising disturbing questions for researchers, policy-makers, and the public.
