These lectures were published in 1897 under the title of "The Christian Ecclesia." Their purpose was to examine the evidence afforded by the writings of the New Testament as to the ideas underlying the Ecclesia of the Apostles. But the ground covered by the Lectures was only a preliminary to a much larger problem, the conceptions of the Christian Ecclesia as revealed in Christian history as a whole.
