Using grounded theory, over 1000 posts retrieved from public online forums were analyzed under a 4*4 framework, referring to four special time nodes (proposal period, exploratory period, full deployed period, exiting period) and four major subjects (government, schools, enterprises, families). The book identifies four main issues faced by massive online education during the epidemic: platform selection in proposal period, teacher training in exploratory period, resource integration in full deployed period, and flexibility of returning to schools in exiting period. These findings enlighten us with a deeper understanding of the process of online learning in an educational emergency, helping to develop best countermeasures in similar situations, as well as to provide paths to follow for other countries. The book will appeal to teachers, researchers and school administrators of the online education and education emergency management, as well as those who are interested in Chinese education during the COVID-19 outbreak in general.

This report pays attention to K-12 teachers from three perspectives: (1) How do K-12 teachers deliver learning to students?; (2) What roles do K-12 teachers play?; (3) what difficulties that K-12 teachers are facing?. Based on a careful review of the literature and thorough analysis of the online teaching practice recently in China, I analyzed the seven online platforms widely used by Chinese teachers and three main online teaching methods. Also, I redefined the tasks and the role of teachers in a virtual environment. Besides, the difficulties faced by primary and secondary school teachers are carefully discussed. Finally, a series of suggestions are given to improve the online teaching experience in the future

The purpose of this study was to explore the effectiveness of parental participation in online learning in Chinese elementary schools during COVID 19. The problem was that prior to the pandemic, parent participation at schools was practically non-existent and now the shift to distance learning has become a major challenge. Methodology used was a descriptive research design with inferential and descriptive analysis. The sample population was in Shanghai, China with a sample size of 50 parents who represented grades (1st to 5th). The study used random sampling to eliminate bias. The major findings were that during COVID-19, parents were able to effectively monitor their children’s performance online, coach them daily on homework and improve parent- teacher communication. With the unplanned rapid move to digital technology, the study concluded that China acted swiftly to shift education to online platforms. Many parents were called upon to collaborate with teachers, however, lack of access and connectivity to the internet impacted parent-teacher communication in rural areas who are at a disadvantage. Practice implication proposes to develop innovative parent-teacher communication strategies that support students in both urban and rural areas while distance learning. Policy implication suggests that the Chinese Ministry of Education formulate a policy that makes distance learning affordable and accessible to all students, regardless of their economic status. Future studies are needed to explore the motivations of parent participation in their child’s education during unforeseen natural disasters or pandemics.
