Book Synopsis Differential Geometry Applied to Dynamical Systems by : Jean-Marc Ginoux
Download or read book Differential Geometry Applied to Dynamical Systems written by Jean-Marc Ginoux and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to present a new approach called Flow Curvature Method that applies Differential Geometry to Dynamical Systems. Hence, for a trajectory curve, an integral of any n-dimensional dynamical system as a curve in Euclidean n-space, the curvature of the trajectory ? or the flow ? may be analytically computed. Then, the location of the points where the curvature of the flow vanishes defines a manifold called flow curvature manifold. Such a manifold being defined from the time derivatives of the velocity vector field, contains information about the dynamics of the system, hence identifying the main features of the system such as fixed points and their stability, local bifurcations of codimension one, center manifold equation, normal forms, linear invariant manifolds (straight lines, planes, hyperplanes). In the case of singularly perturbed systems or slow-fast dynamical systems, the flow curvature manifold directly provides the slow invariant manifold analytical equation associated with such systems. Also, starting from the flow curvature manifold, it will be demonstrated how to find again the corresponding dynamical system, thus solving the inverse problem.
Book Synopsis Statistical Mechanics by : Giuseppe Morandi
Download or read book Statistical Mechanics written by Giuseppe Morandi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001 with total page 678 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the foundations of classical thermodynamics, with emphasis on the use of differential forms of classical and quantum statistical mechanics, and also on the foundational aspects. In both contexts, a number of applications are considered in detail, such as the general theory of response, correlations and fluctuations, and classical and quantum spin systems. In the quantum case, a self-contained introduction to path integral methods is given. In addition, the book discusses phase transitions and critical phenomena, with applications to the Landau theory and to the Ginzburg-Landau theory of superconductivity, and also to the phenomenon of Bose condensation and of superfluidity. Finally, there is a careful discussion on the use of the renormalization group in the study of critical phenomena.
Download or read book Nonlinear Systems written by A.J. Fossard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-07-31 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Systems is divided into three volumes. The first deals with modeling and estimation, the second with stability and stabilization and the third with control. This three-volume set provides the most comprehensive and detailed reference available on nonlinear systems. Written by a group of leading experts in the field, drawn from industry, government and academic institutions, it provides a solid theoretical basis on nonlinear control methods as well as practical examples and advice for engineers, teachers and researchers working with nonlinear systems. Each book focuses on the applicability of the concepts introduced and keeps the level of mathematics to a minimum. Simulations and industrial examples drawn from aerospace as well as mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering are given throughout.

Book Synopsis Bifurcation Theory, Mechanics and Physics by : C.P. Bruter

This book was released on 2001-11-30 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the proceedings of a colloquium inspired by the former President of the French Mathematical Society, Michel Herve. The aim was to promote the development of mathematics through applications. Since the ancient supports the new, it seemed appropriate to center the theoretical conferences on new subjects. Since the world is movement and creation, the theoretical conferences were planned on mechanics (movement) and bifurcation theory (creation). Five aspects of mechanics were to be presented, but, unfortunately, it has not been possible to include the statis tical mechanics aspect. So that only four aspects are presented: Classical mechanics (Hamiltonian, Lagrangian, Poisson) (W.N. Tulczyjew, J .E. l-lhite, C.M. MarIe). - Quantum mechanics (in particular the passage from the classi cal to the quantum approach and the problem of finding the explicit solution of Schrodinger's equation)(M. Cahen and S. Gutt, J. Leray). Fluid mechanics (meaning problems involving partial differ ential equations. One of the speakers we hoped would attend the conference was in Japan at the time, however his lecture is presented in these proceedings.) (J.F. Pommaret, H.I-l. Shi) - Mathematical "information" theory (S. Guiasll) Traditional physical arguments are characterized by their great homogeneity, and mathematically expressed by the compactness prop erty. In such cases, there is a kind of duality between locality and globality, which allows the use of the infinitesimal in global considerations.
Book Synopsis Web Theory And Related Topics by : Joseph Grifone
Download or read book Web Theory And Related Topics written by Joseph Grifone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2001-04-30 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an overview of recent developments in web theory. Webs (i.e. families of foliations in general position) appear in many different fields of mathematics (differential geometry, algebraic geometry, differential equations, symplectic geometry, etc.) and physics (mechanics, geometrical optics, etc.). After giving a survey on webs in differential geometry and algebraic geometry, the book presents new results on partial differential equations, integrable systems, holomorphic dynamics and nonlinear optics obtained through web theory.
