Book Synopsis Trends and Changes in the Chinese Food Market by : Jun Lee

Book excerpt: Since its economic reform and market opening in 1978, China has been of concern to many entrepreneurs and policymakers as one of the most competitive manufacturing locations over the last 30 years. During this period, China has attracted investment of foreign capital in their industry by offering a highly amicable investment climate, thereby securing a chance to restructure their economic system. As a result, China has experienced unprecedented rapid economic growth, which has turned the Chinese into attractive consumers with latent purchasing power, not just workers with a high quality work force. In this study, we analyze the Chinese food market, the most remarkable consumer market experiencing structural change, and seek out business opportunities and challenges for the Korean food processing industry where they try to find the next growth engine going beyond the stagnation in industries' growth. For this purpose, we first review the supply and demand sector of the Chinese food market by examining the statistics for the food processing industry sector and household food consumption. Next, we measure the change in food consumption patterns, particularly focusing on changes in the food demand behavior of urban households.Based on the results analyzed above, we lastly evaluate the current performance and potential of the Korean food processing industry in the Chinese food market, and then find a way to sustain long term success in this market.
Book Synopsis Developing a Sustainable Economy in Cameroon by : Ajab Amin
Download or read book Developing a Sustainable Economy in Cameroon written by Ajab Amin and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2008-05-15 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing a Sustainable Economy in Cameroon is an ambitious effort as the authors try to set a blue print for Cameroon's economy. In the 1980s facing economic crisis, and as dictated by the structural adjustment programme, Cameroon sharply cut public investment expenditures before later cutting government consumption which were followed by privatisation, liquidation of public companies and reduction in the size of the public sector. All these measures are believed to have had devastating effects on the economy. Given the performance of the economy so far the authors suggest that much more effort, with a strong commitment of the main stakeholders, is required to guarantee sustainable economic development in Cameroon. Truly, very few countries in Africa possess such enormous human and natural resources as Cameroon does. This volume brings out the challenges Cameroon faces in its quest for development as well as for designing appropriate strategies for addressing those development challenges.
Book Synopsis The World Food Outlook by : Donald O. Mitchell
Download or read book The World Food Outlook written by Donald O. Mitchell and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-03-06 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern day Malthusians warn that Malthus will ultimately be right: the world will be less and less able to feed itself as populations keep expanding and crop yields seem to have reached a peak. The authors of this volume believe that this pessimism is misplaced, and that there is in fact no worldwide food crisis. On the contrary, they show that the world food situation has improved dramatically over the past three decades: prices of agricultural commodities are at their lowest level in history in real terms and crop output is continuing to rise faster than population. This book provides a much needed and reasoned view on a subject that is too often treated emotionally. The important changes in the international food economy are considered in historical context and provide a basis for projections to 2010. The situation should continue to improve and food should become cheaper than it is today.
