Book Synopsis Christian-Muslim Dialogue In Northern Nigeria by : Thaddeus Byimui Umaru
Download or read book Christian-Muslim Dialogue In Northern Nigeria written by Thaddeus Byimui Umaru and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-08 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion as a powerful impulse in human existence plays a paradoxical role in society as it both contributes significantly in shaping the spiritual, socio-political and economic lives of millions of people and also acts as a source of conflict. The sad experience of interreligious conflict in Northern Nigeria challenges the claim of Islam and Christianity to be religions of peace. However, understood as closely intertwined with culture and custom of a people, religion can be central in the establishment of peace and conflict resolution in and between communities. This text using the model of dialogue (Nostra Aetate) explores and presents the socio-political and theological resources available in Northern Nigeria (the locality) for a consistent peace building process.

To reverse this ugly trend, humanity has no choice than to build a society where every tribe and tongue can coexist in peace. This work analyzed the violent conflicts from anthropological, behavioral, politico-philosophical, and theological perspectives, and makes a demand on humanity to save herself through proper education and dialogue with all men and religions. Lotanna Olisaemeka is a researcher in Missiology affiliated with the Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule, Vallendar, Germany.

Book Synopsis Seed of Glory Journeying with the Holy Spirit by : Benjamin Okon MSP
Download or read book Seed of Glory Journeying with the Holy Spirit written by Benjamin Okon MSP and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-04-23 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What has come to assume the form of seed of glory is an extract from my experience of God in the Holy Spirit. Its a journey that began as a search for meaning and fulfillment in life. I had studied the sacred scriptures for various reasons in the past: to write exams, to give a talk, or just for curiosity to know and acquire knowledge. But this time, I wanted to encounter God on the pages of the sacred writings. Since the Word of God is spirit and life, I desired to encounter the power of the spirit through the written words of God. This was my starting point for my journey with the Holy Spirit. I had very strange experiences that words cannot express. At a point I was commissioned to commit my experiences to writing. That was how I came about the Seed of Glory: Journeying with the Holy Spirit. The work is written in twenty-two chapters. The first chapter deals with Rhema: The Power of the Spoken Word of God; the second chapter presents the Anointing of the Holy Spirit; the third chapter, Teaching with Authority; the fourth chapter, Church Election; the fifth chapter, Forget Ye the Things of the Past (Isa. 43, 1819); the sixth chapter, Mary, the Ideal Mother (Luke 1, 26- 38); the seventh chapter, Jesus in Agony; the eighth chapter, The Paschal Mystery; the ninth chapter, The Power of Authentic Worship of God (John 4, 24); the tenth chapter, The Voice and the Voices; eleventh chapter, A Curse and a Blessing; twelfth chapter, Put on the Whole Armour of God; thirteenth chapter, The Track Route of the Holy Spirit; fourteenth chapter, The Power of Spiritual Connection; fifteenth chapter, Baptism of the Holy Spirit; sixteenth chapter, Gifts of the Holy Spirit; seventeenth chapter, Angels, Archangels, and Guardian Angels; eighteenth chapter, The Gift of Speaking in Tongues and Its Interpretation; nineteenth chapter, 666: The Number of the Beast!; twentieth chapter, Exposing the Jonah in the Boat (Eph. 1020); twenty-first chapter, The Temptation; twenty second chapter, Recovering Our Exalted Position (Joel 2, 2527). It is my hope that my little shared experience of God in this write-up might help shade some light on certain aspects of our human day-to-day experiences in our relationship with God and with one another.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A phenomenon seldom recognized in the media of Western Europe and North America is the extraordinary growth of the Catholic Church of South America and sub-Saharan Africa during the last five decades, and nowhere more than in Nigeria. A key figure in that country and in that growth, up to his death in 1995, was Cardinal Ekandem, the first Anglophone West-African bishop - the first of many - and an outstanding churchman of the 20th Century. Fr. Michael Edem’s scholarly biography of the Cardinal is a fascinating account of a journey from life in a traditional African village to the consistory of cardinals of the Catholic Church in Rome. It will be of enormous interest to a wider public for the author’s personal knowledge of the cardinal and of the Efik/Ibibio culture in which they both grew up.
Book Synopsis Agreeable Agreement by : Minna Hietamäki
Download or read book Agreeable Agreement written by Minna Hietamäki and published by A&C Black. This book was released on 2011-10-20 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent bilateral ecumenical dialogue the aim of the dialogue has been to reach some form of doctrinal consensus. The three major chapters of the book discuss the variety of forms of doctrinal consensus found in ecumenical dialogues among Anglicans, Lutherans and Roman Catholics. In general, the dialogue documents argue for agreement/consensus based on commonality or compatibility. Each of the three dialogue processes has specific characteristics and formulates its argument in a unique way. The Lutheran-Roman Catholic dialogue has a particular interest in hermeneutical questions and proposes various forms of "differentiated" or perspectival forms of consensus. The Anglican-Roman Catholic dialogue emphasises the correctness of interpretations. The documents consciously look towards a "common future", not the separated past.

Book Synopsis Quatrefoil: A Modern Novel by : James Barr
Download or read book Quatrefoil: A Modern Novel written by James Barr and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2016-08-09 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A MILESTONE IN GAY FICTION Phillip Froelich is in trouble. The year is 1946, and he’s traveling to Seattle where he will face a court martial for acting insubordinate to a lazy officer in the closing days of World War II. On the way to Seattle he meets Tim Danelaw, and soon the court martial is among the least of Phillip’s concerns.... So begins Quatrefoil, a novel originally published in 1950. It marked a milestone in gay writing, with two of the first non-stereotyped gay characters to appear in American fiction. For readers of the Fifties, it was a rare chance to counteract the negative imagery that surrounded them. Today, Quatrefoil ranks as a classic work of gay writing, a novel that is still as gripping and enjoyable as ever. It is of extra interest to the modern reader for the vivid picture it draws of what life was like for gay men in our recent but little-known past.
