Book Synopsis Vocational Identity and Career Construction in Education by : Fidan, Tuncer
Download or read book Vocational Identity and Career Construction in Education written by Fidan, Tuncer and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2018-12-14 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the years, careers have transformed to be flexible and changing rather than stable, life-long commitments to an organization. As such, making work meaningful, controlling the work environment, and taking the opportunity to get required training for the next job are as important as the financial advantages. Educators’ careers cannot be isolated from the rest of the labor market, and these developments are expected to influence the career decisions of educators. Vocational Identity and Career Construction in Education uses career construction theory to investigate objective factors influencing career choices and paths of educators, including factors influencing vocational personality development, career counseling activities, transition from school to work, adaptation to different work environments, and meaning of work for educators. Featuring research on topics such as diagnosing career barriers, person-environment fit, and workforce adaptability, this book is designed for educational administrators, human resources theorists, students studying career-related subjects, and practitioners working in managerial positions in private and public educational organizations.
Book Synopsis Career Patterns in the Ch’ing Dynasty by : Raymond Chu
Download or read book Career Patterns in the Ch’ing Dynasty written by Raymond Chu and published by University of Michigan Press. This book was released on 2020-08-06 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The office of governor general (tsung-tu) was the highest provincial post throughout the Ch’ing dynasty. As such, it was a vital link in the control of a vast empire by a very small and alien ruling elite. This is primarily a biographical and statistical analysis of the incumbents of that office. By analyzing the biographical data of those who held the position of governor-general, much may be learned about the nature of the office itself. However, the main objective of the study is to provide information on career patterns, that is, the variety of different posts held from the first official appointment to that of governor-general, of an important cross section of successful Ch’ing bureaucrats. By plotting and analyzing the different patterns their official careers took, we should be able to determine what kind of men reached the top of China’s provincial and national administration during the final centuries of China’s imperial history; the qualifications that were required; the factors which prompted rapid promotion or sudden disgrace. We should also be able to determine the extent to which these and other factors varied markedly among Manchu, Mongol, Chinese Bannerman, and Han incumbents and whether changes throughout the dynasty can be detected in policies concerning the office or in the career patterns of its personnel. If such detection is possible, this study may lend support to the view that late imperial China was not static, but a society undergoing significant changes. [xi]

Book Synopsis Career Development and Systems Theory by : Wendy Patton
Download or read book Career Development and Systems Theory written by Wendy Patton and published by Sense Publishers. This book was released on 2006 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Systems Theory Framework was developed to produce a metatheoretical framework through which the contribution of all theories to our understanding of career behaviour could be recognised. In addition it emphasises the individual as the site for the integration of theory and practice. Its utility has become more broadly acknowledged through its application to a range of cultural groups and settings, qualitative assessment processes, career counselling, and multicultural career counselling. For these reasons, the STF is a very valuable addition to the field of career theory. In viewing the field of career theory as a system, open to changes and developments from within itself and through constantly interrelating with other systems, the STF and this book are adding to the pattern of knowledge and relationships within the career field. The contents of this book will be integrated within the field as representative of a shift in understanding existing relationships within and between theories. In the same way, each reader wilt integrate the contents of the book within their existing views about the current state of career theory and within their current theory-practice relationship. Book Synopsis Typology of career paths of international Top Women Managers - Global orientation pattern for qualified women in management by : Bettina Al-Sadik-Lowinski
Download or read book Typology of career paths of international Top Women Managers - Global orientation pattern for qualified women in management written by Bettina Al-Sadik-Lowinski and published by Cuvillier Verlag. This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Five patterns of women in senior management: Bounded – Unbounded global – Stop and Go – Flexible hoppers – Lean on and move up Women worldwide are still often the minority in top management so the career paths and patterns of successful role models can offer guidance and real inspiration for other women. Career typologies of women in senior management functions can support other women when they set their career plans and need to make decisions. One outcome of the international research driven from the Global Women Career Lab is an intercultural career typology of top women managers in various countries, which offers valuable insights into women strategies for building careers. The typology analysis role model focuses on how women who achieved top management positions around the world built their careers and the characteristics go with it. The analysis describes the five career types which were most frequent in the research group. Different to the handful of existing typologies for women in management, more than 80 % of the women researched here show patterns and paths where career decisions are not made with a focus on family or other external conditions. Most women have pursued an unbounded career, often globally and changing employers in order to rise up the corporate hierarchy. Experienced coaches can use the Global Women Career Lab typology to stimulate reflection on career decisions and shed light on the choices of women in management levels. The typology also shows HR experts that talented women chose companies according to the opportunities they offered for women to rise in senior management.

Book Synopsis Organizational Careers by : Barney Glaser
Download or read book Organizational Careers written by Barney Glaser and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-09-29 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although sociologists have written extensively on the broad subject of occupational careers, generally they have referred only incidentally to organizational careers within work organizations. In this pioneering sourcebook, now considered a classic, Glaser gathered from the literature of occupational sociology those studies that bear most directly on organizational careers. His objective was to provide the first survey of the substantial body of data on the subject and to place this data in a framework that illustrates its significance for the development of theory. In an extensive introduction, the editor explains the several purposes of the book and describes in detail the process of comparative analysis through which sociological theory on organizational careers can be generated. Organized around general themes such as recruitment, motivation, commitment, mobility, and succession, the writings of prominent sociologists--including Riesman, Caplow, Hughes, Becker, and Wilensky--form the content of the book and systematically cover every important facet of organizational careers. The editor's introductions to each section of the book alert the reader to the general phenomena--such as processes, conditions, categories, hypotheses, and properties--that crosscut and are generally relevant to all organizational careers and are, therefore, the raw material of theory. These introductions also suggest questions and problems for further analysis and research. This book as a whole stands as a demonstration of the contributors' method of how the sociologist, working from the data of research, can generate grounded, formal theory on this or any social phenomenon. This book also presents a vital body of data on organizational careers and a guide to further research that will be of great use both to occupational sociologists and to all those involved in the study of organizations.

Book Synopsis Sex, Career and Family by : Michael P. Fogarty
Download or read book Sex, Career and Family written by Michael P. Fogarty and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-01-06 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, first published in 1971, the authors show from first-hand studies of family and working life (and with evidence from many countries, including the socialist societies of Eastern Europe) the nature of the discrimination facing women in the professions – and how various family and employment patterns might contribute to solving it. Their point is not that some new stereotype should be substituted for traditional views of the role of husbands and wives: different patterns fit different situations.
