As they travel along the hot and dusty roads, Caleb comes to know Mary and Joseph by watching and listening to them as they all make their way to Bethlehem. When they finally arrive, he discovers he has family in the very stable where they spend the night. The mice help him to understand where he is and why the evening's events are so important. Book excerpt: Deep beneath the city of Jerusalem lies a stone fortress. In this lair hides an evil about to be unleashed upon the world by the Prince of Darkness. This immortal army has been created for one purpose, to prevent the Messiah from fulfilling his eternal destiny, but God has chosen The Elected to stand beside the Messiah to protect him from Satan's plan. This child, orphaned at birth, is unaware that his father is an Angel. Our story follows Caleb through his life as he grows stronger physically and spiritually, and becomes a mighty warrior of God. Truth and fiction are interwoven to paint a picture of the life of Jesus and possible dangers awaiting him throughout his life on earth. Our young hero stands in the gap between good and evil. Believing he has lost to Satan at the crucifixion, he is overwhelmed at the reality of Christ's resurrection. The Elected is filled with biblical doctrine. It walks with Jesus through His ministry and His last weeks on earth. You see every detail of the trials, beatings, and the crucifixion as if you were there. The book is filled with hope and positive virtues that transcend all time.

Book excerpt: Caleb knew he would follow the teachings and the love of the Lord soon after he gave John the basket full of bread and fish. Later he came to realize that this man named John was very close to the Messiah, the One they called Jesus. Like his father, Caleb was a simple fisherman, having the skills taught to him as he worked on the Sea of Galilee. However, his father taught him more than fishing during the times in the boat. He could hear the Love of the Lord from his father as he spoke to him about the Fathers Word, and the ways of the Son. After the accident on the Sea of Galilee that took his father home to the Lord, Caleb at the age of seventeen started dreaming of the Messiah. He would wake to his mother and younger brother watching over him waiting to hear more of his dreams. As he explained how Jesus offered him the Crown of Thorns he realized he was being given a great journey, and he could feel through the love of the Father that he would receive help during this journey that would take him far from his home of Bethsaida in search of the Crown.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a commentary in the form of a journal. It is meant to be something like a diary kept by a tourist or a spy of his travels in a strange land, recording questions and observations and opinions on everything he sees for other travelers on the same road. It could be also called a dialogue because the author records the conversation that he has with Genesis as he moves along, and the conversation he has with himself in the privacy of his motel room. In both ways it is the account of a journey with the idea that it may be of some use to others traveling the same road. The author is writing as an amateur to other amateurs. He is not a professional theologian nor a biblical scholar, and while his intent is to think as deeply and truly as he can, he is not doing so as a professional. There are several advantages that an amateur may have over a professional in a case like this. First the amateur can be much bolder in what he questions and in the answers he considers. The professional always has something on the line, always something at risk, namely his reputation. He cannot venture far off the beaten path without being in some danger of losing his respectability. The amateur, on the other hand, has little respectability to lose and little reputation to risk. What Dr. Boswell would not be able to risk in mathematical writing he can be quite at liberty to risk in this project. It can be exhilarating. Secondly the amateur has a much friendlier connection with the average reader. The amateur is something of an equal with the average reader, though presumably with something to say worth the hearing. Since they are introduced as equals, the reader can feel safer, less threatened, more entitled to join in the conversation that the author is trying to create. With a professional author there is always the sense of obligation that one should not argue back with the scholar; only another scholar has the credentials to join in their conversation, and the rest of us must sort it all out as best we can. But with this book there is no need of restraint; anyone can be drawn in to the discussion, anyone can feel entitled to disagree, with impunity. It can be exhilarating. This book is not meant to be a "Bible made simple" book. It is written by someone who loves to think and is written for others who love to think. It is written by someone who is not timid about difficult questions and is written for others who have no fear of such things. But most of all it is a book written for the pure joy of the thing and for those who might share that joy.

This fascinating book discusses the meaning of the name "Bethlehem" and explains why the Messiah was born in this little town. The format combines short meditations on the Birth of Christ with detailed explanations of certain points, which are gathered together as footnotes in sections called The Grain Bins. The information brought forth in this work includes such accounts as: 1. The reason why the village of Ephrathah had its name changed to Bethlehem. 2. The reason why Caleb chose the city of Hebron as hi portion, and the relationship between the city of Bethlehem and the Calebites: the "dog" clan offshoot of the tribe of Judah. 3. The possible Calebite ancestry of King David. 4. The native origins of the shepherds. 5. The reason why Adam was brought into the Garden of Eden and the two stages of mankind. 6. The meaning of suffering. 7. The hidden reason behind the flight; to Egypt and the return to the Holy Land. The author is a Scripture scholar who brings a wealth of material to light in this study, helping the reader to discover some interesting details about the birth of Christ which will make the infancy narratives even more meaningful.
