Book Synopsis Ground Improvement Techniques by : Patra, Nihar Ranjan
Download or read book Ground Improvement Techniques written by Patra, Nihar Ranjan and published by Vikas Publishing House. This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systematic treatment of difficult ground as a separate paper in undergraduate and postgraduate courses is gaining ground in Indian universities. Earlier, these topics were taught under a variety of subjects like Advanced Geotechnical Engineering, Retaining Structures, Dams, Pavement Designs, Application of Geosynthetics, Application of Soil Mechanics, and so on. However, field requirement and advances in the technology make a strong case for a focused treatment of the subject which this book provides. A full-fledged paper in ground improvement techniques concentrates on the topics of soil stabilization, compaction, preloading, vertical drains, geosynthetics, in-situ reinforcements and modelling of soil reinforcement. The book provides an overview of the basic concepts of ground modifications to difficult soils in a logical and illustrative way. It teaches how to apply alternative solutions to difficult foundation problems and evaluate their effectiveness before and after construction. The text is supported by a large number of examples, review and multiple choice questions, as well as practical problems. The book is intended to serve as a textbook for undergraduate and postgraduate students of Geotechnical, Transportation, Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering, and a reference work for practising civil engineers. Salient features 1. A well researched textbook on ground improvement techniques 2. Conforms to the syllabi of all Indian universities where the subject is taught 3. Written by an expert on the subject with a decade of teaching experience
Book Synopsis Composite Manufacturing Technology by : A.G. Bratukhin
Download or read book Composite Manufacturing Technology written by A.G. Bratukhin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some years ago in Paisley (Scotland) the International Conference on Composite Materials, headed by Professor I. Marshall, took place. During the conference, I presented a paper on the manufacturing and properties of the Soviet Union's composite materials. Soviet industry had made great achievements in the manufacturing of composite materials for aerospace and rocket applications. For example, the fraction of composites (predominantly carbon fibre reinforced plastics) in the large passenger aircrafts Tu-204 and 11-86 is 12-15% of the structure weight. The percentage by weight share of composites in military aircraft is greater and the fraction of composites (organic fibre reinforced plastics) used in military helicopters exceeds a half of the total structure weight. The nose parts of most rockets are produced in carbon-carbon materials. In the Soviet spacecraft 'Buran' many fuselage tubes are made of boron-aluminium composites. Carbon-aluminium is used for space mirrors and gas turbine blades. These are just a few examples of applications. Many participants at the Paisley conference suggested that the substantial Soviet experience in the field of composite materials should be distilled and presented in the form of a comprehensive reference publication. So the idea of the preparation and publication of a six volume work Soviet Advanced Composites Technology, edited by Professor I. Marshall and me, was born.

Book Synopsis Elastic Analysis of Soil-Foundation Interaction by : A.P.S. Selvadurai
Download or read book Elastic Analysis of Soil-Foundation Interaction written by A.P.S. Selvadurai and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 558 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in Geotechnical Engineering, Vol. 17: Elastic Analysis of Soil-Foundation Interaction focuses on the analysis of the interaction between structural foundations and supporting soil media. The publication first elaborates on soil-foundation interaction problems; idealized soil response models for the analysis of soil-foundation interaction; and plane-strain analysis of an infinite plate and an infinitely long beam. Discussions focus on three-dimensional effects in the infinite beam problem, elastic models of soil behavior, foundation and interface behavior, and elastic-plastic and time-dependent behavior of soil masses. The manuscript then ponders on the analysis of beams of finite length, axisymmetric three-dimensional problem of an infinite plate, and analysis of finite plates. Concerns cover axisymmetric loading of a circular plate, analysis of rectangular plates, axisymmetric three-dimensional problem of the infinite plate, modifications of the thin plate theory, finite beams on a two-parameter elastic medium, and finite beams on an elastic solid medium. The book tackles the determination of soil parameters, experimental investigations and field studies, as well as experimental investigations and field studies and measurement and interpretation of parameters encountered in the idealized soil models in relation to soil-foundation behavior. The publication is a valuable reference for researchers interested in the elastic analysis of soil-foundation interaction.
