Book Synopsis Comprehensive Handbook of Psychopathology by : Henry E. Adams
Download or read book Comprehensive Handbook of Psychopathology written by Henry E. Adams and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 1281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of Comprehensive Handbook of Psychopathology was published in 1984, al most a decade ago. In the interim there has been an explosion of information in psychopathology. Proliferation of knowledge has included a widening base of research data and changing or new concepts and theories regarding classification, measurement methods, and etiology of abnormal behaviors and mental disorders. It has been an active and productive period for biological and behavioral scientists and clinicians, particularly in terms of changing notions of the complex interaction of environmental and biological factors in many disorders. For example, with the classic disorders-such as anxiety and dissociative disorders-our understanding, while far from perfect, has been greatly enhanced in recent years. Whereas there was almost a vacuum of empirical knowledge ten years ago about the personality disorders, concentrated efforts have been undertaken to investigate classification, comorbidities, and expression of the personality disorders, and variants in normal personality traits. In addition, scientific advances in the fields of behavioral medicine, health psychology, and neuropsychology have greatly contributed to our knowledge of psychopathology and the interplay of psychobiological factors. It is now commonly acknowledged that psychopathology is not limited to the traditional mental illness categories; it also plays a significant role in many physical illnesses, such as cancer and AIDS. With these developments, it became clear that the first edition of this handbook was outdated and that a revision was needed.
Book Synopsis Postcolonial Servitude by : Ambreen Hai
Download or read book Postcolonial Servitude written by Ambreen Hai and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2024-03-13 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Domestic servitude is a widespread phenomenon in countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, where even lower-middle class homes rely on domestic workers (mostly women and children). While social scientists have begun to study this unregulated and exploitative "informal sector," literary critics have not paid attention to servants in South Asian literatures or examined their political or literary significance. Postcolonial Servitude argues that a new generation of writers has begun to rethink this culture of servitude and to devise new forms of writing designed to prompt change in normalized ways of seeing and being. It is the first to offer a sustained exploration of servitude and servants in South Asian English literature, from the early 20th century to the present.

Book Synopsis Bent But Not Broken by : Andrew Butters
Download or read book Bent But Not Broken written by Andrew Butters and published by Potato Chip Math Creations. This book was released on 2022-04-14 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bent But Not Broken is a heartfelt journey of a girl and her family as they navigate the healthcare system from diagnosis to surgery and beyond. Follow them as they use their own words in blog posts and through an emotional and gripping narrative that puts you right by their side. All the ups, downs, challenges, and successes of the experience changed their lives and taught them that compassion and love build strong communities, even stronger families, and that true strength comes from the most unlikely sources. For the Butters family, the punch that knocked the wind out of them was a diagnosis of severe idiopathic scoliosis for their eleven-year-old daughter Avery. The only viable treatment option was spinal fusion surgery. It was a terrifying prospect to stare down. Frustrated with the lack of information on what the family would actually experience, Avery's mother, Jodi, started a family blog. It was there that Avery, Jodi, and Andrew would share their thoughts and experiences about the journey in real time. Jodi was determined that if there were other families searching for this information her family would be able to provide it. When it was all said and done and the blog came to its rightful conclusion, the writer in Andrew felt that since the blog was so successful at spreading the message then surely there were other ways to help spread the word and share lessons that even applied beyond Avery's scoliosis.
Book Synopsis New Directions in Memory and Aging (PLE: Memory) by : Leonard Poon
Download or read book New Directions in Memory and Aging (PLE: Memory) written by Leonard Poon and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2014-05-09 with total page 597 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1980, this book contains the proceedings from a memorial conference held in honour of George A. Talland, who made a significant contribution to the area of memory and aging. The major objective of the volume was to stimulate research towards a more comprehensive understanding of age related differences in memory. It was also hoped it would provide direction for the application and utilization of research findings in the evaluation and treatment of memory complaints and memory difficulties experienced by the elderly. The book was intended for two broad groups of scientists. The first being researchers in the psychology of memory, and those who were currently active in the research on aging at the time. The second group was those concerned with applying current research findings to the diagnosis and treatment of problems of memory.
