Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author of this book has attempted to present to the reader the story and triumphs of the frontier lad of nine years, from the wild Western scenes of Kansas and Nebraska, from the prairies of the Platte to the parlors of the East and the palaces of Europe. William Frederick "Buffalo Bill" Cody (1846-1917) was an American scout, bison hunter, and showman. He was born in Le Claire, Iowa Territory but he lived for several years in his father's hometown in Toronto Township, Ontario, Canada, before the family returned to the Midwest and settled in the Kansas Territory. One of the most colorful figures of the American Old West, Buffalo Bill's legend began to spread when he was only twenty-three. Shortly thereafter he started performing in shows that displayed cowboy themes and episodes from the frontier and Indian Wars. He founded Buffalo Bill's Wild West in 1883, taking his large company on tours in the United States and, beginning in 1887, in Great Britain and continental Europe.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pilgrim in the Palace of Words is about language, about the words that splash and chatter across our tongues. Some six thousand languages are still spoken on the planet, and author Glenn Dixon – an expert is socio-linguistics and a tireless adventurer – travels to the Earth’s four corners to explore the way these languages create and mould societies. As one philosopher said, languages are Houses of Being. After doing graduate work in linguistics, Dixon wanted to visit these houses or "palaces" himself – to stroll along their sidewalks, knock on their doors, and peek in their windows. He wanted to see what they were hiding in their basements ... even if it meant a little bit of trouble. In some cases, a whole lot of trouble! Join him on his adventure as, with wit and humour, he works toward a real understanding of how and why we communicate the way we do in the Global Village.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John M. Burke (1842–1917) played an essential role in turning William Frederick Cody into the classic character of "Buffalo Bill." With this biography, published in 1893, Burke refined the legend that continues today. Burke attempted to present the story of William F. Cody from the wild Western scenes of Kansas and Nebraska. And from the prairies of the Platte to the parlors of the East and the palaces of Europe. Burke claimed to give a candid account of Buffalo Bill's life. Hostile Indians, gunfights, cattle stampedes; Cody's Wild West was full of danger at every turn. Burke's portrayal of Buffalo Bill as a pioneer and hero is an honor to the romance of the Wild West and a canonical volume in the American story which is a brilliant example of mythmaking. The book gives insight into how things were back then, and it also makes the reader familiar with the beginnings of American Nationhood.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although this book examines the culture of the people of ZHOA, it begins by highlighting the origin of the concept culture, its various definitions and its various characteristics. The book further reminds us of Africa being the mother of cultures. Talking about the rural culture of Zhoa, it should be noted that Zhoa is a small village found in Cameroon of the North West region within the Menchum division and is the headquarter of Fungom sub division. Zhoa is a good example of a rural African culture that is worth studying because, firstly it has not yet been too contaminated by foreign cultures due to its population and its strong attachment to ancestral symbols, rituals, values, heroes and cultural participations, and secondly Zhoa also witnesses many different cultures on its soil every year in its capacity as the seat of the Fungom sub division. This book therefore examines some basic concepts of culture such as its origin, its definitions, its spread, rituals, symbols, values, heroes and so on. The book is appropriate for entertainment, cultural awareness, the building of morals, socialization, trust, and so on. It is intended for students and cultural lovers.
