Book Synopsis Toxin and Bioregulator Weapons by : Michael Crowley
Download or read book Toxin and Bioregulator Weapons written by Michael Crowley and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-11-22 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how revolutionary developments and convergence of the chemical, life and associated sciences are impacting contemporary toxin and bioregulator research, and examines the risks of such research being misused for malign purposes. Investigating illustrative cases of dual use research of potential concern in China, India, Iran, Russia, Syria and the USA, the authors discuss how states can ensure such research and related activities are not utilised in weapons development. Although toxins and bioregulators are, in theory, covered by both the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention and Chemical Weapons Convention, this apparent overlap in reality masks a dangerous regulatory gap – with neither Convention implemented effectively to address threats of weaponisation. This book highlights the potentially damaging consequences for international peace and security, and proposes realistic routes for action by states and the scientific community.

Book excerpt: Frontiers of Bioorganic Chemistry and Molecular Biology covers the proceedings of the International Symposium on Frontiers of Bioorganic Chemistry and Molecular Biology, held in Moscow and Tashkent, USSR on September 25-October 2, 1978. This symposium is devoted to a discussion of the physico-chemical basis of life processes. This book contains 56 chapters, and reflects the results in the study of peptides and proteins, nucleic acids, polysaccharides, and other biopolymers. Other chapters deal with the study of low molecular regulators, including steroids, alkaloids, and antibiotics. This book also includes discussion of the achievements in the study of genetic structures and of cellular protein synthesizing systems of the molecular basis of enzymic catalysis and of bioenergetic processes. This book will be of value to biochemists and molecular biologists.

Book Synopsis Molecular Biophysics by : M Volkenstein
Download or read book Molecular Biophysics written by M Volkenstein and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Molecular Biophysics presents the fundamental principles of biophysics and their application to the study of the physical properties of biological macromolecules. The merger of biology and physics involves the development of sophisticated instrumentation and the molecular approach to the study of life phenomena. This book is composed of nine chapters and begins with an overview of the thermodynamical aspects and chemical foundations of biophysics. These topics are followed by the physical aspects of macromolecules, with a particular emphasis on the biological functions, conformation, and hydrophobic interactions of proteins. The subsequent chapter describes the structural and electro-optical properties of biopolymers based on X-ray, optical, and spectroscopic analysis. The discussion then shifts to enzymes, their chemical kinetics, catalytic potential, and conformational and cooperative properties. The remaining chapters explore the physical aspects of nucleic acids and the biosynthesis of proteins. This book will prove useful to molecular biophysicists, biologists, physicists, and researchers in the fields of life sciences.

This book was released on 2020-12-10 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains information for specialists in various fields of science. From the point of view of pharmacology, data are reported regarding the effect of echinochrome A and related metabolites from sea urchins on the survival and functional properties of stem cells, which can facilitate ex vivo application of this compound in medicine. For scientists who isolate and establish structures of marine natural compounds, an article devoted to the proof of the microbial origin of a typical metabolite earlier found exclusively from marine invertebrates, 6-epi-monanchorin, may also be of interest. A range of new marine metabolites was discovered from the both marine invertebrates and marine microorganisms, particularly in marine isolates of fungi. Some marine natural products could be applied to treat such diseases as Parkinson’s disease, ischemic stroke, viral infections, and so on. Magnificamide, a new peptide from sea anemones, inhibits porcine and human saliva amylases, showing its probable antidiabetic properties. Application of the genomic approach was discussed in studies on various marine bacteria, producing marine enzymes with unusual specificity. The lectins capable of recognizing glycoforms of different substrates demonstrate the possibility to be used to elaborate new medical diagnostics.
