Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biological Assessment and Criteria presents a state-of-the-art overview of the applications of biological assessments and biocriteria for water quality management in fresh waters. The book presents case studies which illustrate how bioassessment has been used to identify and diagnose water quality problems. It also provides examples of the use of qualitative and quantitative biocriteria as regulatory tools to complement water quality criteria and standards. The first book to present the technical foundation, rationale, program and policy relevance, and legal basis for the most accurate tools used to assess freshwater natural resource and regulatory efforts, this book provides useful and timely information for water quality managers.

This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the findings from a Rapid Biological Assessment of the Kwamalasamutu region of southwestern Suriname. Focusing particularly on the plant and animal species important to the indigenous Trio people, this survey establishes baseline information on the region's biodiversity and ecosystem health in order to better inform ecotourism and monitoring efforts. The RAP team found the Kwamalasamutu region to harbor rich biodiversity, with few signs of ecosystem degradation, and at least 46 of the species identified in this volume are new to science. Further conservation and management recommendations are provided.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Timor-Leste is situated at the heart of the Coral Triangle and is home to some of the earth s most significant marine biodiversity. This report describes the results of an expedition to assess Timor-Leste s marine biodiversity, conservation status, and the resilience of hard corals and coral reef fishes of twenty-two sites along the north coast and in the Nino Konis Santana National Park. Scientists found an average of 212 reef fish species per site, which represents the second highest average for any survey in the world. Among the more than 1,100 species documented, nine species of reef fishes and hard corals are probably new to science. The editors have included maps, color images, and concrete recommendations for future conservation efforts in the region."

This book was released on 2021-12-23 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new volume, Biological Assessment of Natural and Anthropogenic Ecosystems: Trends in Diagnosis of Environmental Stress, diverse methods and achievements in assessing the biological state of ecosystems are presented, biochemical, genetic and cytological methods are used, methodological achievements in this area are discussed in this volume. Experimental and practical aspects of the genetic diversity of cultivated plants and its application in modern business conditions are considered. The use of biological indicators for the purpose of protecting nature and practical application is presented. The authors of the book are biologists, biochemists, genetics, and ecologists from prestigious scientific institutions. This volume explores different types, different plant tissues and intracellular structures for the diagnosis and prediction of anthropogenic effects on living natural systems. Here, scientific information on the bioindication properties of living systems is presented and the theoretical foundations of its study are emphasized. This authoritative reference source will be a valuable addition for scientific researchers and students working in the field of biology, ecology, genetics, cytogenetics, agronomy and environmental assessment and its protection from anthropogenic destruction. The authors highlight the achievements, problems, and opportunities of biological methods for indicating the environment. Key features: Provides an overview of recent events and opportunities in the field of bioindication to control anthropogenic damage of living systems Considers the screening of new parameters to determine the health status of biological objects from one cell to an entire ecosystem, such as boreal peatlands Presents the results of a study of the response of plants to abiotic stressors Demonstrates the importance of role-related research of living objects as bioindicators Provides new research on various topics of plant resistance to stress Discusses design methodology, development and law of selection of indicators for specific environmental issues.

Book Synopsis The Cordillera Del Cóndor Region of Ecuador and Peru by : Thomas S. Schulenberg
Download or read book The Cordillera Del Cóndor Region of Ecuador and Peru written by Thomas S. Schulenberg and published by Conservation International. This book was released on 1997-01 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1993 and 1994, two Rapid Assessment Program teams conducted biological surveys in the Cordillera del Cóndor between Ecuador and Peru, one of the largest intact regions of Andean lower montane forest. This book presents the results of their surveys. The great topographic and geological complexity of this region, combined with a climate of year-round high humidity, have resulted in very high plant species diversity. This diversity of habitats and species with restricted distributions makes the Cóndor an important refuge for many taxa.
