ABOUT THE BOOK Brad Pitt is one of the most famous actors of his generation, thanks to a magical combination of commercial success, critical respect, universally acknowledged good looks, and endless tabloid coverage of his romantic relationships with fellow A-listers. Pitt is an Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner who has also become increasingly involved with humanitarian causes. Pitt started his career in television, appearing in Another World, and in four episodes of the hit show Dallas in 1987-88. In the later, he played the character “Randy,” whom Pitt described as a “typical high schooler” (Teen Beat, Teen Beat Makes a Pitt Stop to Meet Dallas Star Brad Pitt). By the end of the 1980s, he’d added numerous other TV credits, including 21 Jump Street, Growing Pains, Head of the Class, and thirtysomething. Pitt played a lead role in the 1990 TV movie Too Young to Die, starring alongside Juliette Lewis, paving the way for an off-camera romance. “For half of our relationship, we were just unknown young actors in L.A.,” Lewis said recently. “I even remember his little bungalow that we lived in off Melrose that we’d smoke lots of pot in” (BlackBook, Juliette Lewis is a Natural Born Rebel). MEET THE AUTHOR Adam McKibbin's work has appeared in a wide variety of magazines and websites, including The Nation, the Chicago Tribune, AlterNet, Paste and Punk Planet. He's worked in web editorial and social media management for years, and is a seasoned interviewer whose favorite subjects include David Lynch, Tori Amos and human rights journalist Mac McClelland. He studied creative writing at the University of Wisconsin and received the Award for Academic Excellence for his collected fiction. He's currently working on his first nonfiction book. Adam lives in Los Angeles with his wife and daughter, and can be found on Twitter at @TheRedAlert. EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK Pitt is also 0-for-4 at the BAFTA Awards, again receiving three nominations as an actor and one as a producer (for The Departed). He’s a five-time nominee at the Golden Globes; his lone win, in 1995, was for his supporting work in 12 Monkeys. One award Pitt wouldn’t have minded skipping: the Razzies (or Golden Raspberry Awards) in 1995, where he and Tom Cruise were “honored” as the Worst Screen Couple for Interview with the Vampire, sharing the award with Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone. Similarly, one of the awards that brought him the most notoriety is one over which Pitt has expressed ambivalence or conflicted feelings: People’s Sexiest Man Alive, a title he’s won twice. “I think that was a cruel, cruel thing to do to me,” he said following the first award. “...It’s some cruel and heinous joke. A friend of mine said they misspelled it-it was supposed to be sexiest moron” (Los Angeles Times, Don’t Call Him Sexy)... Buy a copy to keep reading!

"I like to collect knives," says Angelina Jolie, "but I also collect first edition books." At first glance, she might seem to be someone without any secrets, talking openly about her love life, sexual preferences, drug use, cutting, and tattoos--and why she kissed her brother on the lips in public. And yet mysteries remain: What was really going on in her brief, impulsive marriages to Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton, and what was going on in her partnership with Brad Pitt? What's behind the oft-reported feud with her father, the Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight? What drove her to become a mother of six children in six years? And—perhaps most puzzling of all—what about the other side of Angelina: How did this talented but troubled young actress, barely 35 years old, become a respected Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations as well as the "most powerful celebrity in the world" (unseating Oprah Winfrey) on Forbes' 2009 Celebrity 100 list? The answers that Andrew Morton has uncovered are astonishing, taking us deep inside Angelina's world to show us what shaped her as a child, as an actress, and as a woman struggling to overcome personal demons that have never before been revealed. In this spellbinding biography, Andrew Morton draws upon far-reaching original interviews and research, accompanied by exclusive private photographs, to show us the true story behind both the wild excesses of Angelina's youth and her remarkable work with children and victims of poverty and disaster today.

This book was released on 2017-01-29 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ever wondered how Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie rose to stardom? Brad Pitt is more than just a pretty face, though. In addition to his good looks and acting talent, the Shawnee, Oklahoma native is also an admirable human being, having struggled to attain his success, and a person who gives back to society and is concerned with social issues. Pitt never graduated from university, dropping out two weeks before graduation, several credits shy of his degree. He packed his bags and drove off in his Datsun, whom he named Runaround Sue, leaving Missouri behind to try to make a name for himself as an actor in Los Angeles. The famous Angelina Jolie as we know her now was actually born as Angelina Jolie Voight, daughter of actor Jon Voight and actress/model Marcheline Bertrand. She was born in Los Angeles, California. When she was just 2 years old, her parents split up. Her mother moved Angelina and her brother James, to the Pallisades in the state of New York City. Angelina got bullied in high school for being too thin, for having scars, for not having a car, for wearing glasses and having to wear braces. She also got rejected in her pursuit of getting a modeling contract for the same reasons as her bullies said. For more interesting facts you must read the biographies! Grab your books now!

Book Synopsis Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game by : Michael Lewis
Download or read book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game written by Michael Lewis and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2004-03-17 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Lewis’s instant classic may be “the most influential book on sports ever written” (People), but “you need know absolutely nothing about baseball to appreciate the wit, snap, economy and incisiveness of [Lewis’s] thoughts about it” (Janet Maslin, New York Times). One of GQ's 50 Best Books of Literary Journalism of the 21st Century Just before the 2002 season opens, the Oakland Athletics must relinquish its three most prominent (and expensive) players and is written off by just about everyone—but then comes roaring back to challenge the American League record for consecutive wins. How did one of the poorest teams in baseball win so many games? In a quest to discover the answer, Michael Lewis delivers not only “the single most influential baseball book ever” (Rob Neyer, Slate) but also what “may be the best book ever written on business” (Weekly Standard). Lewis first looks to all the logical places—the front offices of major league teams, the coaches, the minds of brilliant players—but discovers the real jackpot is a cache of numbers?numbers!?collected over the years by a strange brotherhood of amateur baseball enthusiasts: software engineers, statisticians, Wall Street analysts, lawyers, and physics professors. What these numbers prove is that the traditional yardsticks of success for players and teams are fatally flawed. Even the box score misleads us by ignoring the crucial importance of the humble base-on-balls. This information had been around for years, and nobody inside Major League Baseball paid it any mind. And then came Billy Beane, general manager of the Oakland Athletics. He paid attention to those numbers?with the second-lowest payroll in baseball at his disposal he had to?to conduct an astonishing experiment in finding and fielding a team that nobody else wanted. In a narrative full of fabulous characters and brilliant excursions into the unexpected, Michael Lewis shows us how and why the new baseball knowledge works. He also sets up a sly and hilarious morality tale: Big Money, like Goliath, is always supposed to win . . . how can we not cheer for David?

Download or read book Stuntman! written by Hal Needham and published by Little, Brown. This book was released on 2011-02-09 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The classic no-holds-barred memoir from Hollywood's most legendary stuntman -- an inspiration for Brad Pitt's character Cliff Booth in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood -- is "full of incredible stories as told by a real man of action" (Arnold Schwarzenegger). Yep that's me, Hal Needham, on the cover doing a fire stunt. When you're on fire you don't dare breathe because if you do, you'll suck those flames right down your throat. I was Hollywood's highest paid stuntman so I should know. I wrecked hundreds of cars, fell from tall buildings, got blown up, was dragged by horses, and along the way broke 56 bones, my back twice, punctured a lung and knocked out a few teeth...I hung upside down by my ankles under a bi-plane in The Spirit of St. Louis, jumped between galloping horses in Little Big Man, set a world record for a boat stunt on Gator, jumped a rocket powered pick-up truck across a canal for a GM commercial, was the first human to test the car airbag-and taught John Wayne how to really throw a movie punch. Life also got exciting outside of the movie business. I had my Ferrari stolen right from under my nose, flew in a twin-engine Cessna with a passed out pilot, rescued the cast and crew from a Russian invasion in Czechoslovakia, and once took six flight attendants on a date. I owned the Skoal-Bandit NASCAR race team, the sound-barrier breaking Budweiser Rocket Car and drove a souped-up, fake ambulance in a "little" cross-country race called The Cannonball Run, which became the movie I directed by the same name. Oh yeah, I also directed Smokey and the Bandit, Hooper and several other action/comedy movies that I liked a bunch. I was a sharecropper's son from the hills of Arkansas who became a Hollywood stuntman. That journey was a tough row to hoe. I continually risked my life but that was the career I chose. I was never late to the set and did whatever I had to do to get the job done. Hollywood's not all sunglasses and autographs. Let me tell you a few stories...
Download or read book Jennifer Aniston written by Sean Smith and published by Pan. This book was released on 2007-10-04 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jennifer Aniston is the girl next door - witty, charming, with a smile that lights up the room. Men want to be with her and women identify with her. She was, she admits, more of a professional waitress than an actress before she auditioned for a new sitcom, Friends. The show ran for ten years and was a huge international success. Suddenly Jennifer was famous, her life transformed. At the height of her TV fame Jennifer fell in love with Brad Pitt. They married in 2000, becoming Hollywood's golden couple. After four years, however, her life was turned upside down when she and Brad split and her obvious despair was there for the world to see. If anything, the new vulnerable Jennifer is even more popular than the old vivacious Rachel version when she had the most copied hairstyle in the world. Based on in-depth new research, Jennifer examines how she is fighting back and reveals the true woman behind the Rachel Green facade. It is an affectionate portrait of a much loved star.

Book excerpt: Jason Priestley, star of the iconic hit television series Beverly Hills, 90210 and one of the biggest teen idols of the 1990s, chronicles the highs and lows of his life and career in this charming and honest memoir. The hit Fox show Beverly Hills, 90210 became a cultural touchstone of the 1990s and propelled its young cast to mega-stardom, including Jason Priestley, who played honorable Midwestern transplant Brandon Walsh. Yet despite more than twenty years in and out of the limelight, Priestley has carefully maintained his privacy. In this compelling memoir, the actor, director, and race-car aficionado invites us into his private world for the first time. With humor, sincerity, and charm, Priestley offers little-known details about his life and stories of his nine years in America’s most famous zip code. He talks candidly about celebrity, marriage, fatherhood, and his passion for car racing. He does not shy away from the devastating lows—his brief jail sentence for drunk driving and the crash at the Kentucky Speedway that nearly took his life. Priestley shares his innermost thoughts about life as a ’90s icon, and goes beyond the Brandon Walsh squeaky-clean image, revealing the tumultuous events that have shaped him, and where he finds his greatest happiness today.

Download or read book Spencer Tracy written by James Curtis and published by Arrow. This book was released on 2012-03 with total page 1024 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During his lifetime, Spencer Tracy was known as Hollywood's 'actor's actor'. Critics wrote that what Olivier was to theatre, Tracy was to film. Over his career he was nominated for nine Academy Awards, and won two. But there has been no substantial, intimate biography of the man, until now. From his earliest days in stock theatre, Tracy was a publicist's trial, guarding his private life fiercely. Most of the people associated closely with him shunned the limelight - notably his wife, his children and the great actress Katharine Hepburn, with whom he had an affair that lasted over 26 years. Although his screen roles often depicted a happy, twinkling Irishman, Tracy struggled with alchoholism to the end, a fact which the studios managed to keep out of the papers. With the help of Tracy's daughter, Susie, and access to previously unseen papers, James Curtis has now produced the definitive biography of a tortured, complex and immensely talented man.The book contains 124 integrated photos, many published for the first time.
