Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In just a few short years, massive shifts in public opinion have radically reshaped society’s views on homosexuality. Feeling the pressure to forsake long-held beliefs about sex and marriage, some argue that Christians have historically misunderstood the Bible’s teaching on this issue. But does this approach do justice to what the Bible really teaches about homosexuality? In this timely book, award-winning author Kevin DeYoung challenges each of us—the skeptic, the seeker, the certain, and the confused—to take a humble look at God’s Word. Examining key biblical passages in both the Old and New Testaments and the Bible’s overarching teaching regarding sexuality, DeYoung responds to popular objections raised by Christians and non-Christians alike—offering readers an indispensable resource for thinking through one of the most pressing issues of our day.

Download or read book The Holy Bible Repudiates "Prohibition" written by George Garvin Brown and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-20 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Holy Bible Repudiates "Prohibition" Compilation of All Verses Containing the Words "Wine" Or "Strong Drink," Proving That the Scriptures Commend and Command the Temperate Use of Alcoholic Beverages I was reared on a farm, a son of Scotch and Irish parents from whom I inherited the highest reverence for religion and the Bible. I began reading the Bible as soon as I was able to read at all and my necollection is that I had read it consecutively through before I had so read any other book. The habit of my youth in reading the Bible has been continued to this day and it is a source of gratification to be able to say that my confidence in the Bible and in the true ministers of God has grown with my years. I have been a whisky merchant and manufacturer for forty years and believe now, as I always have believed, that there is no more moral turpitude in manufacturing and selling an intoxicat mg liquor than there is in manufacturing and selling any other product, of course realizing that man is responsible to God for his every act and that the conditions surrounding every individual act must be taken into consideration in determining whether it be right or wrong. This applies to every business and condition in life. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. In Man and Woman, One in Christ, Philip Barton Payne answers this question and more, injecting crucial insights into the discussion of Paul’s view of women. Condensing over three decades of research on this topic, Payne’s rigorous exegetical analysis demonstrates the consistency of Paul’s message on this topic and its coherence with the rest of his theology. Payne’s exegetical examination of the Pauline corpus is thorough, exploring the influences on Paul, his practice as a church leader, and his teachings to various Christian communities. Paul’s theology, instruction, and practice consistently affirm the equal standing of men and women, with profound implications for the church today. Man and Woman, One in Christ is required reading for all who desire to understand the meaning of Paul’s statements regarding women and their relevance for Christian relationships and ministry today. Book Synopsis Insight into Two Biblical Passages by : Leland E. Wilshire
Download or read book Insight into Two Biblical Passages written by Leland E. Wilshire and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2010-06-10 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work comprises new insights into two Biblical passages. The first study, titled 'The Anatomy of a Prohibition,' uses the TLG computer database to offer a new interpretation of I Timothy 2:12. The author provides insight that the TLG computer, with its data selections from 200 BC/BCE to 200 AD/CE, supports the interpretation of one of the key words 'authentein' as 'committing violent action,' not 'having authority.' It then explores the effect of this interpretation on exegesis, gender pronouncements, hermeneutics, tradition, theology, and relevance. As a supplement, it offers a history of traditional translations, mistranslations, and interpretations. The second insight study discusses seeing the 'suffering servant' of Isaiah 40-55 as the city of Jerusalem. This 'Servant City' study is based upon a comparison with the material outside the songs and with other ANE city descriptions that are also in the first millennium.

Book Synopsis Is God a Moral Monster? by : Paul Copan
Download or read book Is God a Moral Monster? written by Paul Copan and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2011-01-01 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A recent string of popular-level books written by the New Atheists have leveled the accusation that the God of the Old Testament is nothing but a bully, a murderer, and a cosmic child abuser. This viewpoint is even making inroads into the church. How are Christians to respond to such accusations? And how are we to reconcile the seemingly disconnected natures of God portrayed in the two testaments? In this timely and readable book, apologist Paul Copan takes on some of the most vexing accusations of our time, including: God is arrogant and jealous God punishes people too harshly God is guilty of ethnic cleansing God oppresses women God endorses slavery Christianity causes violence and more Copan not only answers God's critics, he also shows how to read both the Old and New Testaments faithfully, seeing an unchanging, righteous, and loving God in both.
