Bibia Meets Gripper is rich in colors, cordial conversations, humor, and lots of information for every reader. All three books: Bibia the Butterfly, Bibia Tells Her Story, and Bibia Meets Gripper bring the reader not only closer to nature but also help them appreciate the wonderful outdoors. The setting of each book is different and holds a great meaning all by itself. “Bibia is a charming butterfly who will flutter her way right into your heart! As you read about Bibia, you want to join her in the forest and become her best friend. Bibia is a sweet character that children will want to read more and more about. Purnima Mead’s stories of Bibia offer readers opportunities to learn about various contents. Purnima uses excellent vocabulary to convey Bibia’s adventures. Bibia books are great bedtime or anytime stories that will make your heart smile!” —Amy Routzahn, Reading Specialist Acting Assistant Principal Hillcrest Elementary School – Frederick County, Maryland MSDE Instructor in Reading “In her books, Purnima Mead captures the essence of childhood with its curiosity and friendships along with its challenges and doubts. In Bibia the Butterfly, Bibia’s colors are created and she heads off to share her happiness with her friends. In Bibia Tells Her Story, Bibia finds her forest friends and teaches them about being a butterfly. Through the dialogue and bright, bold, colorful pictures that bleed off the pages, the reader learns about sharing and being a friend. We can only wonder what Bibia’s next adventure will be and how it will delight the children reading the book.” —Carolyn L Cook, PhD Assistant Professor of Education Mount St. Mary’s University – Emittsburg, Maryland

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the heretofore unsuspected complexity of Lorenzo Ghiberti's sculpted representations of Old Testament narratives in his Gates of Paradise (1425–52), the second set of doors he made for the Florence Baptistery and a masterpiece of Italian Renaissance sculpture. One of the most intellectually engaged and well-read artists of his age, Ghiberti found inspiration in ancient and medieval texts, many of which he and his contacts in Florence's humanist community shared, read, and discussed. He was fascinated by the science of vision, by the functioning of nature, and, above all, by the origins and history of art. These unusually well-defined intellectual interests, reflected in his famous Commentaries, shaped his approach in the Gates. Through the selection, imaginative interpretation, and arrangement of biblical episodes, Ghiberti fashioned multi-textured narratives that explore the human condition and express his ideas on a range of social, political, artistic, and philosophical issues.

It is concerned with both comparative issues and the intensive study of a single living poetic tradition of composition in strict canonical parallelism. The papers in the volume were written at intervals from 1971 to 2014 — a period of over forty years. They are a summation of a career-long research effort that continues to take shape. The concluding essay reflects on possible directions for future research.

Can you imagine the most cantankerous book editor alive? Part Voldemort, part Cruella de Vil (if she were a dude), and worse in appearance and odor than a gluttonous farm pig? A man who makes no secret of his love of cheese or his disdain of unworthy authors? That man is Herman Mildew. The anthology opens with an invitation to a party, care of this insufferable monster, where more than 80 of the most talented, bestselling and recognizable names in YA and children’s fiction learn that they are suspects in his murder. All must provide alibis in brief first-person entries. The problem is that all of them are liars, all of them are fabulists, and all have something to hide...

As a Sculptor, Netra Khattri has made this book with the language of Art (Sculpture), how muscles attach to the human skeleton, and from where the muscle originates and inserts with muscle function. Initially, Netra Khattri thought of human muscles as sculptures, beginning to end with skeletons, partial muscled figures, and the origin and function of muscular structures. For example, the reader can look at the skeleton to see how the bones and muscles are constructed in this process of evolution and metamorphosis. Nevertheless, there are more interesting facts in human anatomy than here. The difference between this book shows the Ecorche sculpting process is finished anatomical references rather than, other anatomy book shows drawings of muscles attach with bone and structures of human anatomy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " . . . useful, timely, and important . . . a good and informative book on the Lusophone countries, Portuguese colonialism, and postcolonial influences." —Phyllis Martin, Indiana University "This book, produced by the obvious—and distinguished—corps of country specialists . . . fills a real gap in both state-level and 'regional' (broadly defined) studies of contemporary Africa." —Norrie MacQueen, University of Dundee Although the five Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa that gained independence in 1974/75—Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, and São Tomé e Príncipe—differ from each other in many ways, they share a history of Portuguese rule going back to the 15th century, which has left a mark to this day. Patrick Chabal and his co-authors assess the nature of the Portuguese legacy, using a twofold approach. In Part I, three analytical, thematic chapters by Chabal examine what the five countries have in common and how they differ from the rest of Africa. In Part II, individual chapters by leading specialists, each devoted to a specific country, survey the histories of those countries since independence. The book places the postcolonial experience of the Lusophone countries within the context of their precolonial and colonial past and compares and contrasts their experience with that of non-Lusophone African states. The result is a comprehensive, readable, and up-to-date text and reference work on the evolution of postcolonial Portuguese-speaking Africa.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a study in oral poetic composition. It examines how oral poets compose their recitations. Specifically, it is a study of the recitations of 17 separate master poets from the Island of Rote recorded over a period of 50 years. Each of these poets offers his version of what is culturally considered to be the ‘same’ ritual chant. These compositions are examined in detail and their oral formulae are carefully compared to one another. Professor James J. Fox is an anthropologist who carried out his doctoral field research on the Island of Rote in eastern Indonesia in 1965–66. In 1965, he began recording the oral traditions of the island and developed a close association with numerous oral poets on the island. After many subsequent visits, in 2006, he began a nine-year project that brought groups of oral poets to Bali for week-long recording sessions. Recitations gathered over a period of 50 years are the basis for this book.

Book excerpt: Selected by Choice magazine as an Outstanding Academic Book for 1996 Gender on the Market is a study of Moroccan women's expressive culture and the ways in which it both determines and responds to current transformations in gender roles. Beginning with women's emergence into what has been defined as the most paradigmatic of Moroccan male institutions—the marketplace—the book elucidates how gender and commodity relations are experienced and interpreted in women's aesthetic practices. Deborah Kapchan compellingly demonstrates that Moroccan women challenge some of the most basic cultural assumptions of their society—especially ones concerning power and authority.
