Book excerpt: Shakespeare said, All the worlds a stage; all the men and women merely players. We all have different scripts; but we all search for the same thing. From Macbeth, we get an answer for what it is we search, and nothing is but what is not. My book, Beyond the Garden, takes a look at conventional, fundamental religious thought which is prevalent today, and especially in thoughts such as the gay issue. I suggest that there is another view of life which includes all men and women as brothers and sisters and their sexual preferences. Just as Martin Luther King and the eightys ladies sought to bring freedom to the oppressed, so should the knights of today seek to bring freedom to all mankind. The new frontier becomes an inescapable acceptance of all humanity because that is the issue of unreality prevalent today. Each of us needs to learn that the one thing needful in this world of woe is understanding, acceptance and lasting relationships. This book offers a suggestion for those who want to find true freedom and oneness with his brothers and sisters and God. While some of the more conventional religious books have mainstream thought, Beyond the Garden differs in that it acknowledges other thought patterns to show the offal of our existence until we understand who we are. By coming to this understanding, we discover true freedom. The story of the biblical Cain represents the story of Israel; more than that, it is the story of everyone in his God given freedom outside the garden without compassion. The mark of Cain becomes the standard by which one lives in his freedom. For me, the mark represents an attempt to find true freedom which falls short of our goal as humans, or as Erich Fromm would say, Escape from Freedom. To get beyond the garden is mans lot in life. A more profound inspiration seems to compel us back to the garden where we will find our hearts desire. Herein the quest begins. In other words, we search for the truth beyond what is not!

Book excerpt: The Jersey E?ect takes a look into the hearts and minds of athletes who achieved Super Bowl success and examines the battles they faced. It presents the stories of champions who desired to reflect glory back to God by using their jersey and the platform God had given them to make a positive difference in the world. Even so, sometimes their great intentions were hijacked by pride, materialism, distractions, and de?ciencies within their own character that were never truly understood until the ultimate success had come their way. Intended for players, coaches, and parents that want to learn and in turn teach important lessons about how to properly align their love of sports with Gods heart, The Jersey E?ect advocates for a full 360 degrees of in?uence: coach on player, player on coach, player on parents, parents on player, and team on community. The Jersey Effect demonstrates how to pursue the ultimate prizea goal that has little to do with winning a championship ring and everything to do with how we can have a positive effect on those around us through the sports we love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Garry Kasparov was the highest-rated chess player in the world for over twenty years and is widely considered the greatest player that ever lived. In How Life Imitates Chess Kasparov distills the lessons he learned over a lifetime as a Grandmaster to offer a primer on successful decision-making: how to evaluate opportunities, anticipate the future, devise winning strategies. He relates in a lively, original way all the fundamentals, from the nuts and bolts of strategy, evaluation, and preparation to the subtler, more human arts of developing a personal style and using memory, intuition, imagination and even fantasy. Kasparov takes us through the great matches of his career, including legendary duels against both man (Grandmaster Anatoly Karpov) and machine (IBM chess supercomputer Deep Blue), enhancing the lessons of his many experiences with examples from politics, literature, sports and military history. With candor, wisdom, and humor, Kasparov recounts his victories and his blunders, both from his years as a world-class competitor as well as his new life as a political leader in Russia. An inspiring book that combines unique strategic insight with personal memoir, How Life Imitates Chess is a glimpse inside the mind of one of today's greatest and most innovative thinkers.

Book excerpt: Moscow, 1937: the soviet metropolis at the zenith of Stalin’s dictatorship. A society utterly wrecked by a hurricane of violence. In this compelling book, the renowned historian Karl Schlögel reconstructs with meticulous care the process through which, month by month, the terrorism of a state-of-emergency regime spiraled into the ‘Great Terror’ during which 1 1⁄2 million human beings lost their lives within a single year. He revisits the sites of show trials and executions and, by also consulting numerous sources from the time, he provides a masterful panorama of these key events in Russian history. He shows how, in the shadow of the reign of terror, the regime around Stalin also aimed to construct a new society. Based on countless documents, Schlögel’s historical masterpiece vividly presents an age in which the boundaries separating the dream and the terror dissolve, and enables us to experience the fear that was felt by people subjected to totalitarian rule. This rich and absorbing account of the Soviet purges will be essential reading for all students of Russia and for any readers interested in one of the most dramatic and disturbing events of modern history.

Book excerpt: Ring of Destiny invites its readers to open their minds to go beyond stereo-typical thinking and to explore the possibilities that time does not exist, that there is a physiological reason for memories from previous generations, and that visits from extraterrestrials may account for much of what is assumed under traditional religious beliefs. Ring of Destiny portrays the life of a psychologist who has dared to think "out of the box," and who has come upon theories that suggest a "new world is in the making." Unscrupulous CIA agents realize the political significance of the psychologist's theories and the ancient artifact he and his partner in this adventure, Monica Strove, have discovered. The mystery and intrigue that unfold will take the reader on an exciting journey. The story weaves in and out of time periods, holding the reader's interest throughout. The book also communicates historical facts about Napoleon and the political and social conditions in France, during the Napoleonic period. Ring of Destiny will provide the reader with the intrigue of a mystery novel, insights into psychological thinking, Carl Jung's theory of the collective unconscious, the internal struggles of a psychologist immersed in the pain of his patients, the debate of reincarnation versus the collective unconscious, and knowledge about the Napoleonic period. The build-up of intrigue continuously leaves the reader wanting to know, "what comes next," turning it into a genuine page turner.
