Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade H. Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 28 (thesis year 1 983) a total of 10,661 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 197 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 28 reports theses submitted in-1983, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable Management of Coal Preparation explains both the upstream and downstream of coal preparation, stressing clean coal technologies for coal utilization. It not only discusses the sustainability of coal preparation, but also considers the governance and management issues that come with fulfilling economic, social and environmental obligations of a sustainable mining operation. Divided in three parts, the book explains the preparation of coking and non-coking coal, clean technologies, the principles of sustainable management and emerging management issues. The inclusion of case studies also provides a practical perspective for the planning and design of coal preparation activities and environmental management. - Offers an integrated approach to pursue sustainable management between mining, coal preparation and final use of coal - Explains the economic aspects of coal preparation in a modern/developing society with zero-waste concept - Compiles the best technologies from around the world - Uses India, a developing country, as a case study to apply technologies where there is maximum potential for application and benefit

Download or read book The Beneficiation of Fine Coal written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Laboratory flotation tests were carried out on samples of coal fines from three South African collieries. The results indicated that improved efficiency in terms of plant capacity and reagent consumption could be obtained by an increase in the solids content of the slurry and closer control of the sizing of the solids. It was shown that, even on closely sized feed, flotation did not yield a product of truly low ash content, and that this was due to the bimodal nature of the size distribution of the mineral matter in the coal. The mineral matter was present as 'sand', mainly greater than 75 micrometer, and as 'silt', mainly less than 10 micrometer. Flotation proved to be selective only for coal particles containing sand. Separation with heavy liquid showed that coal particles with ash contents of 3 to 7 per cent could be separated with good yield. Since this material showed almost no difference in flotation response from that of particles with a much high silt content, result was an overall best flotation grade of about 10 per cent ash. Calculations of the density of the ash-free coal showed that this increased from about 1,25 g/cm to the power of 3 for particles with an ash content of 3 per cent to about l,36 g/cm to the power of 3 for particles with an ash content of 20 per cent. Maceral analysis would be of interest in this respect.
