Book excerpt: This discounted four-book box set includes the highly praised Dawn Of Devotion romantic thriller! Beller Ties is a thrilling romantic suspense set featuring four different members of the illustrious – and wealthy – Beller Family. This collection includes all four books in the set: Something So Beautiful, Now And Always, Dawn Of Devotion, & Marked By Forever Something So Beautiful – When green-eyed charmer John Beller breaks through the chaos of her life, offering all the fruits of lust and love, thirty-two-year-old Mary Williams desperately wants to partake. On the verge of a mental break where footsteps echo from empty rooms and constant phone calls have no one on the other end, she craves the peaceful embrace of John’s arms. But the confident man is demanding, and he’s digging into secrets she has no intention of letting anyone find out about. When an insane driver intentionally forces her car off the road and leaves her for dead at the bottom of a ravine, she wakes to find herself hospitalized, then forced into confinement at John’s house. And in his house, it’s his rules. But is he isolating her for her protection? Or using her injuries against her? One thing is certain—her nightmares are real. And the more John kisses her, the closer the threat looms. Love isn’t only blind, it’s dangerous. ~ Now And Always – Avery Kingwood’s marriage crashed and burned…on his honeymoon. After finding out his wife Cassie’s devastating truth, she forces him to sign a separation agreement—more like a gag order. Unable to say what happened to his marriage, Cassie expertly manipulates Avery’s entire family against him. All he’s got left is his father’s business, but even that tie to his family is troubled. Broken, Avery unexpectedly finds something that gives his life renewed meaning and hope: Sheila Beller. Perfect, well-respected, charming—and untouchable. She wants nothing to do with divorced men and he’s worse than divorced, he’s married. While convincing Sheila he is a man she can count on, Avery keeps his secrets close and his lies relegated to omissions. But Cassie is out for blood and Avery’s only hope for love is slipping farther away by the second. One thing is certain—The only thing worse than lying is finding out the secrets you’re protecting aren’t the truth at all. And the more Sheila clashes with the Kingwoods, the more unfathomable the truth becomes. Deceit runs deep in this suspenseful romance! ~ Dawn Of Devotion – Danielle Madison has spent the eight years since her ninth birthday channeling the devastation of her best friend’s murder into catching pedophiles online. Being the one to have found Kira’s body, she can’t forget the brutality of the crime. Worse, she’s sure Kira wasn’t the murderer’s first victim. Since he was never caught, she’s also sure Kira wasn’t his last, and she’s dead set on figuring out his identity. Months away from her eighteenth birthday, the course of Danielle’s life is altered once again when her father forces her to move across the country to live with her estranged mother––a wealth-obsessed narcissist with nothing but complaints when it comes to her daughter. Complaints that send Danielle’s self-esteem spiraling, and put her at odds with Michael Beller, the one person she’s finally found a connection with. But Michael has no idea how far Danielle has taken her obsession with catching child killers, or that she’s caught the attention of the very one she’s been looking for all along. As the ninth anniversary of Kira’s death approaches, Danielle is unraveling. Michael wants every drop of her attention, but so does Kira’s murderer––and he gets it every time he baits her. While she keeps secrets to protect those she cares about, one thing is certain––she’s putting everyone at risk, most of all herself. There’s a thin line between devotion and obsession, and crossing it is deadly. ~ Marked By Forever - A nurse who may be a murderer—and she’s the love of his life. Despite their twelve-year age difference, and all his efforts to forget her, green-eyed Lily Beller has imprisoned Dr. Darren Mansfield’s heart for the last five years. He left his father’s medical practice to avoid the too-young temptation, but now she’s inexplicably working at the same hospital as him. For the sake of his career and his sanity, he needs Lily gone. He also needs answers about the plague of horrific events that have started to further upend his life with all too coincidental timing. He doesn’t want to believe Lily is behind them, but all the evidence points to her. To complicate matters further, while his mind is focused on Lily, her roommate Jill becomes determined to win him. And if he was smart, he’d let her. Because Lily has a boyfriend—one who might be helping her punish Darren over a past he can’t atone for. Secrets, gaslighting, murder, obsessive love—everything is about to explode, and the damage may be irreversible.

Book excerpt: You can’t hide from evil. Especially in a small town. Raised by an abusive father, twenty-two-year-old Tessa understands fear, and the lengths to which predators will go to cripple the minds of their victims. Most of all, she recognizes the liberation she gained when her cousin rode back into their quiet riverside town with a charter of the notorious Leidolf biker club at his back. For the last five years, she’s been under the protection of the rumored assassins, and in their midst, she thrives. The only thing missing in Tessa’s life is love, and she has her eye on the wholesome insurance salesman next door. Matt has his eye on her, too. And all it takes to bring them together is murder. When her cousin’s girlfriend is slaughtered and dumped in the river, a pulse of terror beats through Tessa’s town, growing stronger with each mutilated body until not even Tessa herself is safe. In fact, if her childhood sweetheart is right, Tessa is the reason the murders are happening. If the evidence is right, her cousin isn’t a vigilante, he’s a serial killer. If Matt is right, the Leidolf didn’t free Tessa, they only shackled her with new chains––and those chains are going to get her killed. As the town descends into darkness, Tessa ignites a new love, fights against her old one, and defends not only Gary but the entire Leidolf club––and she has the bruises to prove it. Will she also have to give her life? Or is there something much worse than death in store for Tessa? Sometimes, death is a mercy.

Book excerpt: Antisemitism, as hatred of Jews and Judaism, has been a central problem of Western civilization for millennia, and its history continues to invite debate. This Very Short Introduction untangles the history of the phenomenon, from ancient religious conflict to 'new' antisemitism in the 21st century. Steven Beller reveals how Antisemitism grew as a political and ideological movement in the 19th century, how it reached its dark apogee in the worst genocide in modern history - the Holocaust - and how Antisemitism still persists around the world today. In the new edition of this thought-provoking Very Short Introduction, Beller brings his examination of this complex and still controversial issue up to date with a discussion of Antisemitism in light of the 2008 financial crash, the Arab Spring, and the on-going crisis between Israel and Palestine. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.

Book excerpt: The long-awaited new novel from the Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jeffrey Eugenides. "There is no happiness in love, except at the end of an English novel." —Anthony Trollope, Barchester Towers Madeleine Hanna was the dutiful English major who didn't get the memo. While everyone else in the early 1980s was reading Derrida, she was happily absorbed with Jane Austen and George Eliot: purveyors of the marriage plot that lies at the heart of the greatest English novels. Madeleine was the girl who dressed a little too nicely for the taste of her more bohemian friends, the perfect girlfriend whose college love life, despite her good looks, hadn't lived up to expectations. But now, in the spring of her senior year, Madeleine has enrolled in a semiotics course "to see what all the fuss is about," and, for reasons that have nothing to do with school, life and literature will never be the same. Not after she falls in love with Leonard Morten - charismatic loner, college Darwinist and lost Oregon boy - who is possessed of seemingly inexhaustible energy and introduces her to the ecstasies of immediate experience. And certainly not after Mitchell Grammaticus - devotee of Patti Smith and Thomas Merton - resurfaces in her life, obsessed with the idea that Madeleine is destined to be his mate. The triangle in this amazing and delicious novel about a generation beginning to grow up is age old, and completely fresh and surprising. With devastating wit, irony and an abiding understanding and love for his characters, Jeffrey Eugenides resuscitates the original energies of the novel while creating a story so contemporary that it reads like the intimate journal of our own lives.

This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume containing an instalment of thirty-four negro legends, which was given to the public three years ago, was accompanied by an apology for both the matter and the manner. Perhaps such an apology is more necessary now than it was then; but the warm reception given to the book on all sides—by literary critics, as well as by ethnologists and students of folk-lore, in this country and in Europe—has led the author to believe that a volume embodying everything, or nearly everything, of importance in the oral literature of the negroes of the Southern States, would be as heartily welcomed. The thirty-four legends in the first volume were merely selections from the large body of plantation folk-lore familiar to the author from his childhood, and these selections were made less with an eye to their ethnological importance than with a view to presenting certain quaint and curious race characteristics, of which the world at large had had either vague or greatly exaggerated notions. The first book, therefore, must be the excuse and apology for the present volume. Indeed, the first book made the second a necessity; for, immediately upon its appearance, letters and correspondence began to pour in upon the author from all parts of the South. Much of this correspondence was very valuable, for it embodied legends that had escaped the author's memory, and contained hints and suggestions that led to some very interesting discoveries. The result is, that the present volume is about as complete as it could be made under the circumstances, though there is no doubt of the existence of legends and myths, especially upon the rice plantations, and Sea Islands of the Georgia and Carolina seacoast, which, owing to the difficulties that stand in the way of those who attempt to gather them, are not included in this collection. It is safe to say, however, that the best and most characteristic of the legends current on the rice plantations and Sea Islands, are also current on the cotton plantations. Indeed, this has been abundantly verified in the correspondence of those who kindly consented to aid the author in his efforts to secure stories told by the negroes on the seacoast. The great majority of legends and stories collected and forwarded by these generous collaborators had already been collected among the negroes on the cotton plantations and uplands of Georgia and other Southern States. This will account for the comparatively meagre contribution which Daddy Jack, the old African of the rice plantations, makes towards the entertainment of the little boy.

Book excerpt: After fifteen years of marriage, Jana’s luck just ran out—right into the arms of another woman. Now she’s determined to make her own luck! The first thing Jana realizes she needs to do is empty the joint bank account, then she's thinking she might take a tire iron to her soon-to-be-ex-husband's truck. After that, she's not sure what she'll do ... Maybe she'll adopt a cat. Very quickly, Jana decides she doesn't need a man. A perfectly sized and shaped device and writing about the perfect hero will more than suffice. Determined to share her philosophy, she pens You Don't Need a Man, encouraging women everywhere to go out and experience life instead of waiting for a man to complete them. Three years later, Jana has a New York Times bestseller and a contract for a movie adaptation, but she also has a shoulder injury, which has put a crimp in her new carefree lifestyle. Worse yet, she can't write. Her only hope is Dr. Adrian Kijek, a renowned physical therapist who hates her simply because she wrote a book about not needing a man, or so she thinks... What readers are saying about Some Lucky Woman: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ " Great story and even greater message…" — Goodreads ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I loved how the story moved quickly and covered five years of Jana's life and her growth to independence. I loved her relationship with her cousin and how smart both women were and how they supported each other…" — Goodreads ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Great story about a woman's journey to love and fulfillment…" — New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Tina Wainscott/Jaime Rush WARNING: Although there are many adult situations in this novel, if say ... something crazy happened and a famous producer adapted this contemporary women's fiction into a movie, it would have a PG-13 rating. There are no erotic scenes, no graphic violence, and while there are a few allowed-on-TV curse words, there aren't a plethora of gratuitous foul words. Oh, and if you were looking for a cliffhanger, you won't find that here either. Some Lucky Woman includes all three parts of Jana's story. Please proceed at your own risk.
