Download or read book The Secrets We Left Behind written by Susan Elliot Wright and published by Skyhorse. This book was released on 2015-05-05 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was a summer of love, and a summer of secrets. She has built a good life: a husband who adores her, a daughter she is fiercely proud of, a home with warmth and love at its heart. But things were not always so good, and the truth is that she has done things she can never admit. Then one evening a phone call comes out of the blue. It is a voice from long ago, a man from a past that she has tried so hard to hide. He knows who she really is and what she has done. Now he is dying and he gives her an ultimatum: either she tells the truth, or he will. And so we are taken back to that long hot summer of 1976 to a house by the sea on the southern coast of England, where her story begins and where the truth will be revealed. . . . Told in dual narratives that jump back and forth in time, Elliot Wright has crafted a story with secrets that unfold through the very last page. Compelling, immersive, and thoroughly surprising, The Secrets We Left Behind is a stunning follow up to the author’s acclaimed UK debut The Things We Never Said. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Arcade, Yucca, and Good Books imprints, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in fiction—novels, novellas, political and medical thrillers, comedy, satire, historical fiction, romance, erotic and love stories, mystery, classic literature, folklore and mythology, literary classics including Shakespeare, Dumas, Wilde, Cather, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
Book Synopsis Behind the Wall by : Mary Widdifield
Download or read book Behind the Wall written by Mary Widdifield and published by Hillcrest Publishing Group. This book was released on 2015-04-07 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behind the Wall: The True Story of Mental Illness as Told by Parents provides a shared voice for millions of people who advocate for a child or loved one living with mental illness, fosters understanding for society at-large, and delivers an ultimately hopeful read. The seven true stories in this book, told by nine parents, were selected from interviews conducted by sisters Mary and Elin Widdifield, and interwoven with one sister's own experiences. Told with remarkable candor, these stories offer more insight than any single story or academic analysis. When mental illness enters the national discussion, it typically comes in the wake of a violent tragedy, attracting temporary attention and further misunderstanding. Behind the Wall posits that the true story of mental illness can be told most accurately by the people in the trenches: the parents who watched it all unfold.
Book Synopsis TILL WE HAVE FACES (Cupid & Psyche – The Story Behind the Myth) by : C. S. Lewis
Download or read book TILL WE HAVE FACES (Cupid & Psyche – The Story Behind the Myth) written by C. S. Lewis and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2023-12-05 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Till We Have Faces" is a retelling of a story about Cupid and Psyche. This story had haunted Lewis all his life, because he realized that some of the main characters' actions were illogical. As a consequence, his retelling of the story is characterized by a highly developed character, the narrator, with the reader being drawn into her reasoning and her emotions. This was his last novel, and he considered it his most mature, written in conjunction with his wife, Joy Davidman. The first part of the book is written from the perspective of Psyche's older sister Orual, as an accusation against the gods. The story is set in the fictive kingdom of Glome, a primitive city-state whose people have occasional contact with civilized Hellenistic Greece. In the second part of the book, the narrator undergoes a change of mindset (Lewis would use the term conversion) and understands that her initial accusation was tainted by her own failings and shortcomings, and that the gods are lovingly present in humans' lives. Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) was a British novelist, poet, academic, medievalist, lay theologian and Christian apologist. He is best known for his fictional work, especially The Screwtape Letters, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Space Trilogy, and for his non-fiction Christian apologetics, such as Mere Christianity, Miracles, and The Problem of Pain.
