Book Synopsis Strength and Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Slab-column Connections Subjected to Static and Dynamic Loadings by : Marvin E. Criswell
Download or read book Strength and Behavior of Reinforced Concrete Slab-column Connections Subjected to Static and Dynamic Loadings written by Marvin E. Criswell and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this investigation were to study the strength and behavior of slowly (statically) loaded reinforced concrete slab-column connections and to determine the effect of rapid (dynamic) loading on the strength and behavior by comparison with the static test results. Nineteen full-scale models of a connection and adjoining slab area, consisting of a simply supported slab 84 or 94 inches square and 6-1/2 inches thick loaded concentrically on a 10- or 20-inch-square stub column at the center of the slab, were tested. The main variables were the amounts of reinforcement in the slab (p = 0.75 and 1.50 percent), the column size, and the loading speed. Eight specimens were loaded to failure statically, two were subjected to a very rapidly applied load of short duration, and nine were loaded to failure by a rapidly applied load with a rise time chosen to represent the conditions in a blast-loaded structure. The static test results are compared with 12 shear strength prediction methods. Differences between the mechanism of shear failure in slabs and beams are examined. (Author).
Book Synopsis Reinforced Concrete by : James Grierson MacGregor
Download or read book Reinforced Concrete written by James Grierson MacGregor and published by Prentice Hall. This book was released on 1997 with total page 939 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the 1995 edition of the American Concrete Institute Building Code, this text explains the theory and practice of reinforced concrete design in a systematic and clear fashion, with an abundance of step-by-step worked examples, illustrations, and photographs. The focus is on preparing students to make the many judgment decisions required in reinforced concrete design, and reflects the author's experience as both a teacher of reinforced concrete design and as a member of various code committees. This edition provides new, revised and expanded coverage of the following topics: core testing and durability; shrinkage and creep; bases the maximum steel ratio and the value of the factor on Appendix B of ACI318-95; composite concrete beams; strut-and-tie models; dapped ends and T-beam flanges. It also expands the discussion of STMs and adds new examples in SI units.

Book Synopsis Behaviour of Building Structures Subjected to Progressive Collapse by : Bo Yang
Download or read book Behaviour of Building Structures Subjected to Progressive Collapse written by Bo Yang and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2022-02-18 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Behaviour of Building Structures Subjected to Progressive Collapse gives in-depth and up-to-date quantitative and numerical analysis of building structures against progressive collapse. It does so at various levels, including bare steel joints, composite joints and sub-assemblages and frames under quasi-static loading conditions. The book provides analysis of the force transfer mechanisms of composite structures and reinforced concrete structures, along with detailed numerical models that shed light on the effects of critical parameters on progressive collapse resistances. It includes direct design methods that take into account various collapse-resisting mechanisms. The collapse of the World Trade Center in New York has spurred extensive experimental study and numerical analysis of the structural behavior of buildings under progressive collapse scenarios. Although design guidelines have been published by governments, most are missing up-to-date numerical and experimental results, quantitative accounts of force transfer mechanisms, and numerical guidelines. - Offers in-depth analysis and numerical modeling for building structures against progressive collapse - Provides analysis of the force-transfer mechanisms of composite and reinforced concrete structures - Gives detailed numerical models that shed light on the effects of critical parameters on progressive resistances - Includes direct design methods that take into account various collapse resisting mechanisms - Offers a comprehensive reference for progressive collapse analysis and the design of building structures

Book Synopsis Quantification of Building Seismic Performance Factors by :
Download or read book Quantification of Building Seismic Performance Factors written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes a recommended methodology for reliably quantifying building system performance and response parameters for use in seismic design. The recommended methodology (referred to herein as the Methodology) provides a rational basis for establishing global seismic performance factors (SPFs), including the response modification coefficient (R factor), the system overstrength factor, and deflection amplification factor (Cd), of new seismic-force-resisting systems proposed for inclusion in model building codes. The purpose of this Methodology is to provide a rational basis for determining building seismic performance factors that, when properly implemented in the seismic design process, will result in equivalent safety against collapse in an earthquake, comparable to the inherent safety against collapse intended by current seismic codes, for buildings with different seismic-force-resisting systems.
Book Synopsis Seismic Behaviour and Design of Irregular and Complex Civil Structures III by : Dietlinde Köber
Download or read book Seismic Behaviour and Design of Irregular and Complex Civil Structures III written by Dietlinde Köber and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-06 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents state-of-the-art knowledge on problems of the effects of structural irregularities on their seismic response. It also covers specific spatial and rotational seismic loads on these structures. Rapid progress in respective research on irregular structures and unconventional seismic loads requires prompt updates of the state of the art in this area. These problems are of particular interest to both researchers and practitioners because these are non-conservative effects compared with the approach of the traditional seismic design (e.g. Eurocode 8, Uniform Building Code etc.). This book will be of particular interest to researchers, PhD students and engineers dealing with design of structures under seismic excitations.
Book Synopsis Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences by : Wade H. Shafer
Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 391 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS)* at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dis semination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the though that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemi nation. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 37 (thesis year 1992) a total of 12,549 thesis titles from 25 Canadian and 153 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this impor tant annual reference work. While Volume 37 reports theses submitted in 1992, on occasion, certain uni versities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.
