Kingsley retells the life of Christ, using the four Gospels as her guide. Titus powerfully shows the mercy and compassion of Jesus for sinners. In this story, you will find sadness and sorrow, but you will also find the power of Jesus at work to "heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound." (Isaiah 61:1)The Swiss Family RobinsonFollowing a raging storm in the Pacific, a Swiss family is shipwrecked on a deserted island. Together, they will labor to build a new Switzerland, in a faraway place. The family will learn, over and over again, that God is the all-merciful Provider of everything that we enjoy. God is the bountiful Creator who has made the things of this earth for the benefit of His creatures. The Life of Henry MartynOriginally published in 1832 by the American Sunday School Union, this short biography of one the greatest missionaries of the 19th century was written to encourage young people to dedicate their lives to the sacred work of serving the Lord Jesus Christ. Henry Martyn willingly gave up his life for the cause of Christ's gospel in faraway lands. He spent years in India and Persia, laboring to translate the Scriptures so that the peoples of those lands would come to know the saving gospel of Jesus Christ.

Book Synopsis The Christian Adventure by : Teachout Delbert
Download or read book The Christian Adventure written by Teachout Delbert and published by Tate Publishing & Enterprises. This book was released on 2014-12-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On May 11, 2009 I received a Barna Update e mail stating, "A new study from the Barna Group identifies an underlying reason why there is little progress in helping people develop spiritually: many churchgoers and clergy struggle to articulate a basic understanding of spiritual maturity. People aspire to be spiritually mature, but they don't know what it means." This book specifically defines five levels of spiritual growth and maturity. I have never seen a book about spiritual growth that described what spiritual growth looks like. That is why we have the problem studied by Barna. How can people tell whether they are making any progress? How much further do they have to go to reach full maturity? I answer those questions. In this book I teach people to grow from having enough faith to believe that Jesus died for them, to having enough faith they believe they would live for him. Readers will be challenged to be serious about their pilgrimage of faith which I call a Christian adventure. They will be encouraged to practice holiness and serving others. The theme in this book is that "getting saved" which is level one in my book, is only the beginning for Christians. We need to move on to letting Jesus live in us through a life of service and holiness. Rather than a "How To" book this is a "What's Next" book.

Book Synopsis The Christian Invention of Time by : Simon Goldhill
Download or read book The Christian Invention of Time written by Simon Goldhill and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2022-02-03 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Time is integral to human culture. Over the last two centuries people's relationship with time has been transformed through industrialisation, trade and technology. But the first such life-changing transformation – under Christianity's influence – happened in late antiquity. It was then that time began to be conceptualised in new ways, with discussion of eternity, life after death and the end of days. Individuals also began to experience time differently: from the seven-day week to the order of daily prayer and the festal calendar of Christmas and Easter. With trademark flair and versatility, world-renowned classicist Simon Goldhill uncovers this change in thinking. He explores how it took shape in the literary writing of late antiquity and how it resonates even today. His bold new cultural history will appeal to scholars and students of classics, cultural history, literary studies, and early Christianity alike.

Book Synopsis The Expulsive Power of a New Affection by : Thomas Chalmers
Download or read book The Expulsive Power of a New Affection written by Thomas Chalmers and published by Gideon House Books. This book was released on 2015-06-17 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” — 1 John 2:15 Those who struggle with habitual sin are keenly aware of the despair and fatigue that comes from trying harder and harder to control the desire to do what is wrong in the eyes of God. For this person, there be times of limited success in overcoming sin, but eventually he/she falls back again into unhealthy patterns. In "The Expulsive Power of a New Affection", Thomas Chalmers argues that no matter how hard we may try, we’ll never overcome habitual sin in our lives unless we switch our affections from the world to Jesus Christ. Thankfully Christ loved us first and is more than willing to set us free if we’d only realize the true Gospel power that we can all have in our lives today.
