Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a common condition that can last for many years. It is a debilitating chronic illness which ruins lives. Every waking moment becomes a physical, emotional and cognitive struggle just to function on the most basic of levels. The purpose of this book is to reassure sufferers and their families that recovery is possible and that the illness is genuine. It draws on the experiences of many sufferers of chronic fatigue and on those of the author herself. Dr Kristina Downing-Orr, a clinical psychologist, suffered severe chronic fatigue symptoms and was compelled to research the cause of CFS and the cure herself because she was offered so little help by the medical profession. Her recovery was quick and lasting. In her book, Kristina reveals the causes of chronic fatigue and offers an accessible, scientifically valid, easy-to-achieve programme that will inspire people with CFS to regain their health and restore their energy and vitality. Chapters cover Kristina's own story, what chronic fatigue really is, what causes it, diagnosis, a step-by-step self-treatment programme, how to strengthen the body, and coping with stress and resources.

This book was released on 2015-03-16 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) are serious, debilitating conditions that affect millions of people in the United States and around the world. ME/CFS can cause significant impairment and disability. Despite substantial efforts by researchers to better understand ME/CFS, there is no known cause or effective treatment. Diagnosing the disease remains a challenge, and patients often struggle with their illness for years before an identification is made. Some health care providers have been skeptical about the serious physiological - rather than psychological - nature of the illness. Once diagnosed, patients often complain of receiving hostility from their health care provider as well as being subjected to treatment strategies that exacerbate their symptoms. Beyond Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome proposes new diagnostic clinical criteria for ME/CFS and a new term for the illness - systemic exertion intolerance disease(SEID). According to this report, the term myalgic encephalomyelitis does not accurately describe this illness, and the term chronic fatigue syndrome can result in trivialization and stigmatization for patients afflicted with this illness. Beyond Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome stresses that SEID is a medical - not a psychiatric or psychological - illness. This report lists the major symptoms of SEID and recommends a diagnostic process. One of the report's most important conclusions is that a thorough history, physical examination, and targeted work-up are necessary and often sufficient for diagnosis. The new criteria will allow a large percentage of undiagnosed patients to receive an accurate diagnosis and appropriate care. Beyond Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome will be a valuable resource to promote the prompt diagnosis of patients with this complex, multisystem, and often devastating disorder; enhance public understanding; and provide a firm foundation for future improvements in diagnosis and treatment.

Book excerpt: When I was three months pregnant with my second child, I caught a flu virus that changed my life. For the next four years I lived in the clutches of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. When I realized that most of the medical profession considered my illness to be in my head, I felt so isolated, struggling to understand what was wrong with me knowing that it was a real physical illness. CFS shut down my life as I knew it and forced me to become a recluse spending most of my time in bed between short lived efforts to have a normal life. But slowly, through much trial and error, I began to understand the patterns and the cruelty of CFS. In the end, I defeated Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and now live a full and healthy life totally free of CFS. This book shares in detail the eight step protocol that I developed and followed as I slowly and steadily regained my health. Its written in a clear, concise format, understanding the struggle that CFS sufferers have with memory and concentration. By consistently following these steps, I hope that you too can: Defeat Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. You dont have to live with it!

Although we are not medical practitioners, we have spent decades sharing our personal experiences of beating CFS, toward helping other people to deal with their CFS symptoms as well. Warren Tattersall lives in rural Australia and has had a lifetime of personal experience dealing with CFS. He has worked with nutrition supplements for 20 years. On a daily basis he works, one-on-one, with people looking to improve their health and is regularly dealing with CFS sufferers. He trains and supports others in this field in many countries and regularly travels internationally to train others or to further his own studies. Helene Malmsio is a retired business woman living in Australia who has been researching and testing for over 35 years to learn how to treat her own severe case of CFS. Discussions with people showed that most CFS sufferers were also being overwhelmed by the sheer volume of CFS research and data available, without necessarily being given the practical information about the CFS therapies that are already working for others. This led Helene to collaborate with Warren to create this book, pooling their shared resources and experience toward creating a straightforward step-by-step book on beating CFS. We have also written a second book, a companion volume 2 to this, which is dedicated to learning about your digestion on a cellular level and how to get the full benefits of adding Super Foods and supplements to your daily CFS Diet therapy.

Book excerpt: A rigorous, skeptical, deeply reported look at the new science behind the mind's surprising ability to heal the body. Have you ever felt a surge of adrenaline after narrowly avoiding an accident? Salivated at the sight (or thought) of a sour lemon? Felt turned on just from hearing your partner's voice? If so, then you've experienced how dramatically the workings of your mind can affect your body. Yet while we accept that stress or anxiety can damage our health, the idea of "healing thoughts" was long ago hijacked by New Age gurus and spiritual healers. Recently, however, serious scientists from a range of fields have been uncovering evidence that our thoughts, emotions and beliefs can ease pain, heal wounds, fend off infection and heart disease and even slow the progression of AIDS and some cancers. In Cure, award-winning science writer Jo Marchant travels the world to meet the physicians, patients and researchers on the cutting edge of this new world of medicine. We learn how meditation protects against depression and dementia, how social connections increase life expectancy and how patients who feel cared for recover from surgery faster. We meet Iraq war veterans who are using a virtual arctic world to treat their burns and children whose ADHD is kept under control with half the normal dose of medication. We watch as a transplant patient uses the smell of lavender to calm his hostile immune system and an Olympic runner shaves vital seconds off his time through mind-power alone. Drawing on the very latest research, Marchant explores the vast potential of the mind's ability to heal, lays out its limitations and explains how we can make use of the findings in our own lives. With clarity and compassion, Cure points the way towards a system of medicine that treats us not simply as bodies but as human beings.
