Download or read book Testing Qcd Through Spin Observables In Nuclear Targets written by Jian-ping Chen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2003-01-16 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the invited talks and contributed papers presented at the workshop on “Testing QCD Through Spin Observables in Nuclear Targets”, held at the University of Virginia in April 2002.The workshop was proposed in the context of the large number of experiments that have used polarized deuterons or polarized 3He to extract information about the spin parameters of the neutron. The motivation for this workshop was to study the effects of the nuclear medium on the spin properties of the bound nucleon and to explore issues in QCD that might be resolved through spin observables in nuclear targets: What is the effect of the nuclear medium on the measured asymmetries? How have the latest results on the spin structure of the nucleon and the nucleon form factors changed our thinking? What advances are anticipated in the development of polarized targets?

Book Synopsis From Parity Violation to Hadronic Structure and more by : Serge Kox
Download or read book From Parity Violation to Hadronic Structure and more written by Serge Kox and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-06-07 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost 50 years after the proposal of Lee and Young in 1956 to test the hypothesis of parity violation in weak interactions and the subsequent experimental verification of parity violation by C. S. Wu, parity violation has today become a useful property of weak interactions. This is due to the fact that the focus nowadays has changed: parity violation in weak interactions is no more a topic of investigation but is used as a tool in many different fields ranging from nuclear physics to the search for the hidden extra dimensions requested by string theory. For our first workshop which took place June 5-8, 2002, at the Institut fiir Ke- physik of the Johannes Gutenberg-Universitat Mainz, we concentrated on the in vestigation of the strangeness contribution in the nucleon. This book contains the refereed and selected papers of the second workshop "From Parity Violation to Hadron Structure and more (Part II)", which took place June 8-11, in the Labo- toire de Physique Subatomique et de Cosmologie, in Grenoble. These papers appear in EPJAdirect, the electronic-only part of EPJA, and they are accessible without restrictions. They will also appear in printed form and can be ordered through Springer. The excellent presentations show the dramatic and steady progress in the accuracy of measured parity violating asymmetries over the last few years.

This book was released on 2019-09-09 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 10 in the series of the annual journal Reviews of Accelerator Science and Technology (RAST), will be its final volume. Its theme is 'The Future of Accelerators'. This volume, together with previous 9 volumes, gives readers a complete picture as well as detailed technical information about the accelerator field, and its many driving and fascinating aspects. This volume has 17 articles. The first 15 articles have a different approach from the previous volumes. They emphasize the more personal views, perspectives and advice from the frontier researchers rather than provide a review or survey of a specific subfield. This emphasis is more aligned with the theme of the current volume. The other two articles are dedicated respectively to Leon Lederman and Burton Richter, two prominent leaders of our community who left us last year.

Download or read book Polarized Electrons written by J. Kessler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the physics of spin-polarized free electrons. Many aspects of this rapidly expanding field have been treated in review articles, but to date a self-contained monograph has not been available. In writing this book, I have tried to oppose the current trend in science that sees specialists writing primarily for like-minded specialists, and even physicists in closely related fields understanding each other less than they are inclined to admit. I have attempted to treat a modern field of physics in a style similar to that of a textbook. The presentation should be intelligible to readers at the graduate level, and while it may demand concentration, I hope it will not require decipher ing. If the reader feels that it occasionally dwells upon rather elementary topics, he should remember that this pedestrian excursion is meant to be reasonably self-contained. It was, for example, necessary to give a simple introduction to the Dirac theory in order to have a basis for the discussion of Mott scattering-one of the most important techniques in polarized electron studies.
Book Synopsis Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics by : Zohreh Parsa
Download or read book Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics written by Zohreh Parsa and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2000-12-21 with total page 1058 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this meeting, as with the six previous conferences in this series, was to bring together particle and nuclear physicists to share scientific reports and discuss areas of research which overlap both disciplines. The need for such an interdisciplinary conference was recognized by Alan D. Krisch and Malcolm H. MacFarlane, founding fathers of the CIPANP series. Its relevance has steadily grown as the areas of overlap between particle and nuclear physics have increased. In addition, the success of the standard model has provided a common underpinning for both disciplines as well as similar fundamental goals. Indeed, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) has proven to be "the" theory of strong interactions. As such, it forms the basis for nuclear physics as well as high energy hadronic interactions. Topics included are: QCD spectroscopy and dynamics, relativistic heavy ions, QCD and nuclear structure, lepton-hadron and hadron-hadron scattering, heavy quark and heavy lepton physics, spin physics, nuclear and particle astrophysics, neutrinos, accelerators, facilities and detectors, as well as tests of fundamental symmetries.

Book Synopsis High Energy Polarized Proton Beams by : Georg Heinz Hoffstaetter
Download or read book High Energy Polarized Proton Beams written by Georg Heinz Hoffstaetter and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-09-21 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the acceleration and storage of polarized proton beams in cyclic accelerators. Basic equations of spin motion are reviewed, the invariant spin field is introduced, and an adiabatic invariant of spin motion is derived. The text presents numerical methods for computing the invariant spin field, and displays the results in numerous illustrations. This book offers a more lucid view of spin dynamics at high energy than has hitherto been available.

Book Synopsis Spin 96 - Proceedings Of The 12th International Symposium On High-energy Spin Physics by : J E J Oberski
Download or read book Spin 96 - Proceedings Of The 12th International Symposium On High-energy Spin Physics written by J E J Oberski and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-04-15 with total page 906 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experiments using highly polarized intense beams and targets, and theoretical studies of spin and polarization phenomena, are now providing us with numerous additional details of the electroweak and strong interactions and the structure of matter. The spin structure of the nucleon has been measured over wide ranges of kinematic variables, and the cross sections have been calculated to several orders in perturbative field theory. At present, the influence of the higher twist contributions, the gluon spin, and the quark orbital angular momentum are under scrutiny. Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) captures a lot of our experimental knowledge of hard polarized scattering processes. Can our understanding of such processes within QCD be further improved?Hyperons produced in high energy reactions show how puzzling strong interactions between hadrons still are. Spin observables in experiments at intermediate energy are used to test parity and charge symmetries. Will they also reveal, at low energy, a violation of time reversal symmetry? We are on the verge of using parity violation measurements at intermediate electron scattering energies to determine the amount of strange quark contributions to the neutral weak form factor of the nucleon. The polarization of the sea quarks is expected to be measured soon in W± decays produced in high energy polarized proton interactions. Will the jets in polarized Z⁰ decays show a definite handedness? These and many other topics are discussed in these proceedings.
Book Synopsis Electromagnetic Response of Atomic Nuclei by : Sigfrido Boffi
Download or read book Electromagnetic Response of Atomic Nuclei written by Sigfrido Boffi and published by Clarendon Press. This book was released on 1996 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the structure and dynamics of atomic nuclei in terms of nucleons, pions, and quarks, all within a unified treatment of the nuclear response to an electromagnetic probe. The basic formalism is presented to describe the electromagnetic field and its interaction with nuclear matter for both real and virtual photons. Nuclear response is then analyzed in terms of structure functions in the case of inclusive and semi-inclusive inelastic electron scattering. The discussion covers pion production and one- or two-nucleon emission and compares the results with available data. The formalism is also extended to incident polarized electrons, polarized targets and nuclear recoil polarization. It contains a comprehensive description of photonuclear reactions at intermediate energies and a review of experimental data and previous theoretical approaches.
